Guest Posted 9 August 2010 Posted 9 August 2010 So Leicester fans are bitching about one of their own players. What else is new?
fleckneymike Posted 9 August 2010 Posted 9 August 2010 Thats actually one of the more upbeat threads.
hackneyfox Posted 9 August 2010 Author Posted 9 August 2010 Realistic more like it and able to tell a good goalie from an adequate one.
lcfcsnow Posted 9 August 2010 Posted 9 August 2010 Weale has been all over the shop for the past 12-15 league games, has it passed by most fans?
fleckneymike Posted 9 August 2010 Posted 9 August 2010 Realistic more like it and able to tell a good goalie from an adequate one. I disagree with 90% of the hysteria on Bentleys but the Weale thread is pretty much spot on. He's a decent shot stopper close in but his communication with his defence isn't too hot and he does get beaten too often from long range. Having said that we have no alternative and I can't think of an available keeper I'd take over him (and can we all please stop having wet dreams over Marton Fulop).

hackneyfox Posted 9 August 2010 Author Posted 9 August 2010 There must be loads of better goalies out there than Weale and if a good goalie is worth a goal a game (Shilton/Clough) then we should spend the money on one.
Wdywd Posted 9 August 2010 Posted 9 August 2010 Our keeper is fine, the rest of the team (or lack of it) is the problem!

Logan did too when he played so as you say no real alternative.
hackneyfox Posted 9 August 2010 Author Posted 9 August 2010 Really? I can't agree with that, there were certainly problems on Saturday, N'guessan, Morrisson AND Weale
Guest Posted 9 August 2010 Posted 9 August 2010 Realistic more like it and able to tell a good goalie from an adequate one. Or miserable fcukwits who'll only ever be happy when we fail so they can say 'see, I told you so' Weale is a good keeper, not the best in the world but by no means as awful as some would have us believe
Corky Posted 9 August 2010 Posted 9 August 2010 There must be loads of better goalies out there than Weale and if a good goalie is worth a goal a game (Shilton/Clough) then we should spend the money on one. Ok then, who are these keepers?
marbelladave Posted 9 August 2010 Posted 9 August 2010 Or miserable fcukwits who'll only ever be happy when we fail so they can say 'see, I told you so' Weale is a good keeper, not the best in the world but by no means as awful as some would have us believe This... Like all keepers at this level he is not great but he is not awful, despite my criticism of some aspects of his performances. Replacing him is not a priority in my view but if someone better is available at a price we can afford then why not? Mind you I have absolutely no idea who that someone might be so...
OutFoxing-Cov-Since1884 Posted 9 August 2010 Posted 9 August 2010 McGregor @ Rangers, Turnbull @ Chelsea, Basso @ Bristol City, De Vries @ Swansea, Marshall @ Cardiff. There ya go, 5 keepers!
fleckneymike Posted 9 August 2010 Posted 9 August 2010 McGregor @ Rangers, Turnbull @ Chelsea, Basso @ Bristol City, De Vries @ Swansea, Marshall @ Cardiff. There ya go, 5 keepers! Ok, how much would they cost and what wages? Would they be better value than a free transfer Bristol City reserve?
Callabinho Posted 9 August 2010 Posted 9 August 2010 If Weale is sh*t then why would West Ham look at him? The fact is Weale when called upon is reliable! yea so he gets beaten occasionally from distance! but thats not completely his fault all the time. Weale like all players has his faults, but id rather be with him then without him....
Corky Posted 9 August 2010 Posted 9 August 2010 McGregor @ Rangers, Turnbull @ Chelsea, Basso @ Bristol City, De Vries @ Swansea, Marshall @ Cardiff. There ya go, 5 keepers! Thankyou, at least you've given examples.

OutFoxing-Cov-Since1884 Posted 9 August 2010 Posted 9 August 2010 I cannot comment on wages, but from what I have heard from Walter Smith at Rangers, he would listen to offers for any player, but for his keeper an estimate was given of about 2 million. I say this was back in January, so circumstances may have altered? I am, however, speculating based upon this takeover being successful for a couple of these names. But Basso @ Bristol and De Vries @ Swansea would be quite realistic I'd have thought. Basso, for same reason Chris came to us, wouldn't want to play 2nd string to James all season, De Vries, as he has played under Paulo already; therefore - used to this 'distrubution' type keeper Paulo seems to talk about/Conrad is quoted as having said. P.S. Thank you Corky. I also quite rate Westwood at CovSCUM.
Callabinho Posted 9 August 2010 Posted 9 August 2010 Ever thought that maybe they weren't? Maybe his agent is angling for a new deal. Possibly so, I still don't think he is bad keeper.

West Ham may have looked, they certainly haven't made an offer. And it isn't he getting beaten from distance that makes me say he should be replaced, it is the flapping and the not controlling the box and defenders that does it for me.
fleckneymike Posted 9 August 2010 Posted 9 August 2010 Possibly so, I still don't think he is bad keeper. Neither do I, he's just adequate. Slightly better than Henderson in my opinion.
hackneyfox Posted 9 August 2010 Author Posted 9 August 2010 Possibly so, I still don't think he is bad keeper. I didn't say he was a bad keeper, but if we want to do something this season I don't want a team full of players who aren't bad or who are adequate. I want a team of good players and for me the goalie has always been one of the most important positions. Why do you think Arsenal are rumoured to be willing to spend 25m on Reina? Because Wenger realises the importance of a good goalie.
