Finnegan Posted 7 March 2011 Posted 7 March 2011 Do you really think a national newspaper is going to publish an article.. ...if they weren't 100% sure of its authenticity? Heh, you need to be more cynical. I'm not suggesting that it's definitely a fake or that the papers are definitely wrong in this instance but, yes, news desks will frequently publish articles without being 100% sure of their authenticity. Journalism in the twenty first century is an industry based almost entirely on speed; getting stories out the fastest they can be done. That often means printing copy without checking it. If the story is on an agency wire then they'll just lift it and run with it. Why do you think most tabloids have almost identical stories with almost identical pictures? It's all just been lifted from PA or Reuters.
nothin2seehere Posted 7 March 2011 Posted 7 March 2011 I feel a little bit sorry for Blackpool, thought they played very well in the first half and for 10 mins or so of the second. Don't think they deserve to be three down but you can't deny Chelsea have turned it up a little.
ScouseFox Posted 7 March 2011 Posted 7 March 2011 No idea what Ollie was shouting about, clear as day, that penalty.
Jimothy Posted 7 March 2011 Posted 7 March 2011 Not watching but everywhere on Twitter it's saying Kevin Phillips said that Drogba doesn't go down easily. What?!?!
StanSP Posted 7 March 2011 Posted 7 March 2011 Not watching but everywhere on Twitter it's saying Kevin Phillips said that Drogba doesn't go down easily. What?!?! You sure they were on about Drogba? There was a point in 2nd half where Beattie went down very easily after the slightest of touches from Bosingwa, and then Phillips said something along the lines of 'he's at least 6ft and about 14 stone so it won't be that easy to bring him down'. Something like that.
ScouseFox Posted 7 March 2011 Posted 7 March 2011 Kalou won that for Chelsea, he was great. Not often you can say that.

Something like that. Well only going on what was said on Twitter, where everyone moaning about Phillips said he was on about Drogba. Quotes saying "Drogba doesn't go down lightly" and "Drogba doesn't stay down for much so he must be hurt". If he did say that he's talking out his arse.

It's all just been lifted from PA or Reuters. you've never read the sun have you? Hah yeh, reading that back it did sound a bit stupid, it wasn't really what i meant though. I meant i doubt they would use that picture if they didn't know where it had come from and it had just been picked up from the web, there will be some sort of analysis into where the picture has come from and if it corresponds with the injury in which Nani's sustained. Good win for Chelsea, Blackpool have finally hit reality.
Wymsey Posted 8 March 2011 Posted 8 March 2011 I bet Ancelotti is quite relieved Lampard has come back and playing at his best. The game could've been slightly different if Charlie Adam was in the mix for Blackpool.
Haydos Posted 8 March 2011 Posted 8 March 2011 Let's not lose perspective. Yes it did look initially like Nani was crying wolf (which wouldn't exactly have been the first time) but Carragher's challenge was vile and cowardly, as was Dowd's reaction in not giving him a red card he deserved. Rafael's challenge wasn't that clever either, but the replay clearly shows that he was kicked on the thigh by Maxi seconds previously. As this and other recent games have shown, the current crop of English referees are not good enough for the Premier League. The FA should start recruiting throughout and beyond Europe to ensure we have refs of the highest quality. As far as the football's concerned, it's a sad reflection on the standard of the league that a United side in serious decline, who were pitiful yesterday, are still on course for a league and cup double. Can't agree with that. Bringing in Europeans? That's got to be one of the main causes of the lack of youngsters progressing to elite level in the English game. It would only begin a downward spiral if it were to happen to referees as well. I certainly think something needs to be done. Maybe addressing the referee's background in the sport. A lot seem to lack common sense as well as ability.
Jimothy Posted 14 March 2011 Posted 14 March 2011 Jens Lehmann to resign for Arsenal as goalkeeping cover according to the Guardian.
MikeyT Posted 14 March 2011 Posted 14 March 2011 SSN website: Sky Sports News sources understand former goalkeeper Jens Lehmann is holding talks with Arsenal regarding a possible return to the club. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is considering bringing in keeping cover after Wojciech Szczesny joined Lukasz Fabianski and Vito Mannone on the sidelines. The injuries have left Manuel Almunia as Arsenal's only senior keeper and Lehmann has been linked with a return to Emirates Stadium. Lehmann is due to spend six weeks at his old club to work on his coaching badges and was remaining coy on the possibility of being part of Wenger's squad when asked about a possible deal on Sunday. Positive talks "I am in London and so far have heard nothing of such plans, but you never know," Lehmann told Bild am Sonntag. However, it is believed the club have held 'positive talks' with Lehmann, although a deal has not been done and Arsenal declined to comment. The 41-year-old spent five years with Arsenal and made almost 200 appearances for the club after his 2003 arrival from Borussia Dortmund. He returned to the Bundesliga with Stuttgart in 2008 before the former Germany international called time on his playing career last summer.
