Brainy Posted 12 October 2010 Posted 12 October 2010 Does anyone know what's happening with Ilkeston Town and whether they will be back or not? I'm not sure about deleting them off my FM database or not. Well they dont appear on the BSN table anymore
dandannieldanok Posted 12 October 2010 Posted 12 October 2010 Class!! Blimey he's put on enough weight .
Webbo Posted 12 October 2010 Posted 12 October 2010 http://www.nonleaguedaily.com/news/index.php?&newsmode=FULL&nid=70059 Longer article here; Trevor Benjamin: After 27 clubs, former Leicester striker is still feeling clever at Morpeth TownAnother pile of jerseys on the floor, another changing room at another ground at another club in another league in a different world: Trevor Benjamin stared at the dirty black and amber stripes of Morpeth Town and thought of his zigzag career. At 16 he made his debut with Cambridge United. Along the way he collected an England cap - briefly in the same Under 21 team as John Terry and Jermain Defoe. There was the £1.3million transfer to Leicester City and all the expectation of the Premier League. Guest Bilo Posted 12 October 2010 Posted 12 October 2010 Fantastic. Just fantastic. Cracking. But this is spaffworthy.
CosbehFox Posted 13 October 2010 Posted 13 October 2010 Well they dont appear on the BSN table anymore Gone for this season. The fans are trying to set up a phoenix club but will be a few levels lower than Conf North. Wouldnt surprise to see at least a couple more go that away. Anyways, Barwell won 3-1 last night over BSN Solihull Moors. 4th Rd Qualifying now against Droyslden away.
BoneDog Posted 23 April 2011 Posted 23 April 2011 Congratulations to Alfreton Town Promoted to The Blue Square Premier for the first time in their history. They deserve it after their performances in the Blue Square North over the last few seasons. Think they finished third twice in a row and have now won it today. Delighted for them.

Derbyshire....booooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Congrats to barwell 2nd promotion on the bounce. Sad to see shepsheds fall from grace, I used to watch them in the 80's they were a great team but they have been relegated again.
DB11 Posted 23 April 2011 Posted 23 April 2011 Fantastic. Just fantastic. 1m 18s - surely well offside
Guest Bilo Posted 23 April 2011 Posted 23 April 2011 What's notable as we approach the end of the season is how many former FL clubs are poised to do well. Halifax have already been promoted to the BSN, and Boston , Luton, Wrexham and Wimbledon are comfortably in the play-offs of their respective divisions. Sad to see Histon relegated from the BSP though, that win over Leeds in the FA Cup must seem a long time ago now. Weymouth are battling relegation from the Zamaretto Premier as well. Would be their third consecutive relegation if they lost the battle.
purpleronnie Posted 23 April 2011 Posted 23 April 2011 FC United booked their playoff place chance of a runners up too. Although I don't fancy them in the playoffs. But I do hope they go up.
Guest Bilo Posted 23 April 2011 Posted 23 April 2011 Yeah, forgot about them! With the FA Cup and their league form, FCUM have had a great season. Be great to see them make the kind of progress Wimbledon have made.
Guest Bilo Posted 24 April 2011 Posted 24 April 2011 By the way, what happens with the play-offs in the BSP and BSN/BSS? I know the BSP Playoff final generally takes place at Wembley (Wimbledon v Luton there would be ridiculous) but what happens with the BSN and BSS finals? Is it a neutral ground and if so, where? I doubt it'll be Wembley below Level 1 of the NLS.
Fosse Boy Posted 24 April 2011 Posted 24 April 2011 To be fair Histon were punching well above their weight for years - a village team who made it. Their derby against Cambridge would be like City facing Fleckney Athletic in the league or similar. See some brilliant clubs in the non-leagues and yet jokers like Stevenage and (soon to be) Crawley hanging about in the fourth division. Where's the justice.

Yeah, it's great to see such a small club at that level though. Same with Forest Green, who really are tiny. You're right about the clubs in the fourth division though, would much rather see Luton, Wimbledon, Cambridge, Grimsby and York there than some of the clubs there now.
Bert Posted 24 April 2011 Posted 24 April 2011 No matter how great some clubs are, each and every club are where they are because they deserve to be there, with MK Dons being the only exception.
Guest Bilo Posted 24 April 2011 Posted 24 April 2011 Can't disagree on the pitch, the league system is a meritocracy after all, but I'd love to see some of the clubs I've mentioned back in the Football League. Like you say, Franchise are the only club in the FL that haven't earned their league place but I just think it'd be great to see some of the more established names back in the league. For example, I'd much rather get York away in the Carling Cup than Stevenage or MK Dons. There are some decent clubs there with good support and their fans deserve league football even if the players don't. Still, it's all about what happens on the pitch rather than off it.

So would I and I agree with you. But I'm sure you're clever enough to know that regardless of club size and fan-base/support no club has got any given right to football league status. Most of the "bigger" non-league clubs are where they due to finance, Luton, Boston, Halifax etc.
Fosse Boy Posted 24 April 2011 Posted 24 April 2011 Mismanagement on and off the pitch cost most of those clubs their league places, especially examples like Luton and Chester. Crawley will go the same way once their owners get bored. It's the way of the world these days sadly.

Most of the "bigger" non-league clubs are where they due to finance, Luton, Boston, Halifax etc. Oh yeah, the whole idea that clubs have a god-given right to a certain position is ridiculous. The kind of shit you hear from Leeds on a regular basis when they whinge about Wigan and Bolton being in the Premiership while they're fighting for a Championship play-off spot. Leeds themselves are where they are because they over-reached themselves. Wigan, conversely, are where they are because of a sugar daddy and their elevated position is because of outside wealth rather than honest, good-old fashioned decent management and slowly building a side over time. Now that seems to be happening in the lower leagues as well with Stevenage and Crawley getting into the Football League and clubs like Stockport and Grimsby falling out. It's a shame that so many former FL clubs are now in non-league because of financial mismanagement really, and an even bigger shame when they're replaced by clubs like Crawley who've spent just as recklessly as any of them trying to get in to League 2. At least if Wimbledon get there they can say they've done it honestly and without the help of a big money sugar daddy, and I'd like to see more clubs like them in the FL.
Brainy Posted 24 April 2011 Posted 24 April 2011 saw Alfreton against my local club at the start of the season and they thrashed us, not that that is too difficult. not surprised to see them go up
Guest Bilo Posted 24 April 2011 Posted 24 April 2011 What's happened to Redditch this season anyway? Bottom of the table and long since relegated with 8 points, do they have major financial problems leading to them having to sell everyone to stay afloat or something?
purpleronnie Posted 25 April 2011 Posted 25 April 2011 Typical FC United blew their chance to finish runners up, would have had a great draw in the playoffs now face a very good Bradford side.

Bottom of the table and long since relegated with 8 points, do they have major financial problems leading to them having to sell everyone to stay afloat or something? lost a bit of interest since Christmas and actually only found out a few weeks ago that we had a 5 point deduction for financial reasons. finance has been an issue for years now but someone has came in and cleared all the debt, so hopefully a new start in a lower league with a slightly bigger budget will see us bounce back. you probably know how players come and go in the very lower league, with us atleast there seems to be a new player on the team sheet every week. doesnt hide the fact that we've been shit the entire season, yeah the squad is young but our first two home games this season we lost 5-1 and 9-0. plus there have been atleast 3 times this season where we have been winning in the 88th minute and still lost the game the stadium is pants too, you should see our away stand
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 25 April 2011 Posted 25 April 2011 Saw Boston win 5-0 on Saturday, Lawrie Dudfield scoring. He scored shit loads for our reserves and youth teams if I remember.
