Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 24 September 2010 Posted 24 September 2010 Usually I'd give a manager at least 10-12 games. In this case though, I'd have expected us to be 15th/16th and just above the relegation zone. But we are far far worse. We are in the bottom three and deserve to be, because we havent played well enough, and played the wrong team. I'll give Sousa the Norwich game, three points and I'll write this game off. A draw, then I expect us to win the next two games. A loss and he should go.
Webbo Posted 24 September 2010 Posted 24 September 2010 . People are forgetting two things: 1) There's no decent replacement out there, we would seriously be contemplating a Dowie-type candidate 2) Dicking around with managers never helps - does anyone remember the infamous 07/08 season? Could anyone be any worse than what we've got now?
Guest ttfn Posted 24 September 2010 Posted 24 September 2010 That's a fair enough statement. I was under the impression your past posts (after a few games) were rather more on the side of 'get rid' than 'I've got doubts'. I seem to remember posting that he had to go after Coventry, and then retracting it pretty much immediately. Oh we were dross, I totally agree with that. But we were dross in two successive games under Pearson last season. Teams can always put in a dross performance now and again. It's nothing shocking, it happens, you just got to take the hit and carry on. We need to give the guy longer. People are forgetting two things: 1) There's no decent replacement out there, we would seriously be contemplating a Dowie-type candidate 2) Dicking around with managers never helps - does anyone remember the infamous 07/08 season? I'm not necessarily defending our start to the season, it's been poor. But first of all the players have to take responsibility as well as the manager. Second of all we need patience, look at Roy Keane last season, they were rock bottom for ages, winless for ages, but the Ipswich board stuck by him and look where they are now. The trouble with our fans is that we're far too impatient, and the majority seem to believe we have a divine right to be successful. I'd suggest that the main problem in 07-08 is having the wrong man in in the first place. In fact, as soon as we "settled" on a manager, we went from lower-mid table to relegated! Ipswich were rock bottom last season and are now in the play-offs. They're not world beaters. We were in the play-offs last season and are (almost) rock bottom now. I don't know. I think more than anything I'm just pissed off because this is all so unnecessary. Pearson didn't need to go, so Sousa doesn't need to be here now.

dandannieldanok Posted 24 September 2010 Posted 24 September 2010 Could anyone be any worse than what we've got now? Yes, comfortably worse. Dowie? Gregory (and Walsh 'dreamteam')? Megson? Jewell? We can't get anyone decent, because anyone that's out of work is out of work for a reason. Getting a manager who's in a job currently, will be incredibly tough. The decent ones are not just going to be handed to us on a plate by their clubs. The simple equation is this: impatience/sacking managers at will = failure
Edmund Posted 24 September 2010 Posted 24 September 2010 but but but O'neil had a shit start as well.....

The two home games are critical after Norwich. I expect us to lose on Tuesday, we desperately need six points from the home matches.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 24 September 2010 Posted 24 September 2010 Haha I nearly made a joke thread saying this. well you did at 2-0 down So THAT'S what Sousa was laughing at!
l444ry Posted 24 September 2010 Posted 24 September 2010 Either the new owners cough up or Sousa goes. Pretty football is one thing but trying to play like Arsenal (who also win fook all) with the garbage we have is unforgivable and just plain stupid.
dandannieldanok Posted 24 September 2010 Posted 24 September 2010 dandan give up. ........and join the cringeworthy tirade against Sousa? I'd rather not. I want Sousa to stay, my mind won't be changed. I've always said I'll judge him after 3 months, and that's what I'll do.

We need a manager who can adapt to the players he has and not fantasise they're Real Madrid.
MC Prussian Posted 24 September 2010 Posted 24 September 2010 Worst start to a season in what... 20 odd years?
