Paulo Sousa....

If he was so sure of himself getting the sack why not just wait for the payoff. There were plenty of options, lets not make excuses for him.

Cause maybe he's more concerned with his own career than getting a payoff?

No attempt was made to keep him here, lets not make excuse for Mandaric and co.

Anyone who cant even do the basics ie: get 11 players on the park FIT for 90 minutes in my opinion is a joke.

You only need to look at what Powell and Stowell did with the SAME players as Sousa to see what an inept coach he was.

With Palarse in the spot they are you think the owners would make a couple of phone calls to Swansea and us before risking the clubs very future in the hands of someone as clueless at management as paulo sousa.

I get the impression you either hate him or at the very least, try to take every opportunity to take him down a peg or two in people's eyes, but just maybe, maybe he was one of the good guys and didn't want to feather his own nest at the expense of his career. He certainly seems principled.

Then when faced with staying with a chairman who had gone out of his way to sideline him or a club who was just relegated from the Premier league, has the benefit of parachute payments for a few years, along with a couple of useful players he chose the latter.

He owed us nothing, has no attachment to the club for historical reasons and certainly owed no loyalty to his boss, he fulfilled his job role more than admirably whilst he was on the payroll and has mine & many other fans respect, I wish him all the best in whatever he does in future, except of course for when we face him.

Relegation certainly for Palace then.

Interesting recollection of events & distorting of the facts

Pearson was put in a position by Manderic (& potentially the new owners as well, we'll never know) that leaving was the only option

Sousa didn't have a clue at any aspect of managing a football club, getting players fit, signing players suitable for the division, selecting a team, preparing a team for a match, tactics for the match, motivation, formation, right players in the right position, man management... anything

You can write was right about Sousa at Leicester on a pin head

the one thing going for him at Palace is that the only way is up for them & he probably learnt alot from his time at Leicester about how not to go about things

But its in the past now

Not too many facts in there distorted or otherwise.

Sousa 'applies for Palace job'

Former QPR, Swansea and Leicester boss Paulo Sousa is reportedly in the running for the vacant manager's job at Crystal Palace.

how the mighty have fallen

...a whole ten places

I'd be amazed if he got that job. I can't see him managing in England again any time soon.

Sousa would have failed regardless. You cannot have such a short sighted opinion on fitness and scouting and be a success. Swansea players have spoken out about the odd training methods and they had to employ a head scout for players seperately.

With that attitude, he will not succeed in this country. Full stop.

Nobody asked him to stay either

Except for 25,000 people who gather in a stadium every 2 weeks. He's as much of a cvnt as the rest of them. Sven will get us promoted, but this season is too much of an ask, after the horrible start and lack of player fitness coming into the season. Sven has steadied the ship, yes up till the Hull game, we have been shocking away from home, but anyone who thinks we are nailed on to be a top 2 side after the start we had is deluded.

Sven should remain in charge wherever we finish this season (Unless we are in the bottom 3, which is extremely unlikely). He will then have had a full pre-season (We have seen the damage not having a proper planned pre season can cause) and 2 Transfer windows in order to get it right.

Promotion CAN be achieved this season, but i will not be calling for Sven's head if we don't go up. Sven is a world class coach (My point proven by how utterly shameful England have been since his Witch-Hunt of a sacking), and i seriously think that we need to stick with him.

Fair enough Bednar was/is a bag of shit, but which manager get EVERY signing right? Even MON signed a couple of turkeys. But look at Naughton and Vassell (Who is beginning IMO to show why he will be a brilliant signing for us.) People may not agree with the Fryatt deal either, i will admit i'm 50-50 but i think that the guard needs changing and Fryatt has not been happy here all season.

And yes people will point to a couple of bad results we have had, but at the end of the day, what did we expect? Sven turns up and we win every game thereafter? Football isn't like that, never has been, never will be. Sven needs time to do what he WILL do at this club, and to be totally honest, would we be any worse of if we start next season in the Championship with a fully fledged, tightly knit "Sven" team that can hit the ground running, or sneaking up through the playoffs, rushing recruitment through the summer and probably having no chance from the start?

One thing is for certain, we will all have different opinions, but these owners expecting promotion this season - It can be achieved, but if it isn't, then they and Mandaric should carry the can for putting Sousa in charge in the first place.

In Sven We Trust.

I don't care even if he was a cvnt, he was a good football manager and he wasn't going to go to Hull because he thought it was a better prospect was he :frusty:

If he gets the job I'll be straight down the bookies backing Palace for relegation.

I hope he does really. Easy money :D

Right i think your comment is more in jest, but can i point out

1.) Palace were one of the favourites to go down at the start of the season

2.) They are currently in the relegation zone anyway, so current odds won't be that favourable

3.) Surely whoever gets the job, they're still one of the favourites to go down... unless Iain Dowie takes over?

Especially given he apparently made disparaging comments about Palace's adminstration situation while manager of Swansea (so my Palace mate says). Can't see their fans taking to him, mate's bricking it he's gonna end up there.

11/8 is about the best price on the High Street for Palace to be relegated at the moment. If Sousa got the job and they stayed above evens I'd be more than happy to lump on.

If I had a lump :(

Ok, can I clear something up here. Sousa did have a chief scout who in turn had 7 other scouts working for the club, in spite of what Sven said. I dont know the situation with Sousa at Swansea. This scout was responsible for the additions of Abe and Moussa at our club, he also had deals accepted by both players and their clubs for Keiran Clerk at Villa & Henri Lansbury at arsenal to name two, however Lee Hoos wouldn't sanction the deals. These loanees include large signing on fees. For instance the fee during pre season for Naughton just to have on loan was

£350.000

Sousa had his hands tied to a degree whilst at the club. I'm not defending him particularly, his fitness policy left us wanting I agree, but I felt it was necessary to put some points across here.

Interesting even more so that Sven currently has Tord Grip as a consultant on this side of things.

FYI, Swansea employed a head scout rather than Sousa choosing his own man.

I have pretty much forgotten about Sousa!

He was no good for us at all and I don't see why people feel bad for him, he came in and couldn't do a job so got sacked! END OF!

If people want to dwell on past managers, in my opinion Nigel Pearson is the only one worth talking about in recent years.

Pearson said himself that Mandric asked him to stay but he felt it was too little too late.

And that is a fact.

Is he still with us?

There was a point a few weeks ago where you couldnt pick up the Mercury, listen to Radio Leicester or come on here without seeing his name or hearing his voice but now (thankfully) all is quiet from the Hoos-Meister.

I won't dispute that then but the point is he didn't want him to stay enough. He showed the owners around behind his back, he invited Sousa to the play-off second leg (make of that what you will) and he wasn't willing to get rid of Hoos instead, which he should have done. If he was that bothered about him staying he would have done that.
