lcfc_forever Posted 3 October 2010 Posted 3 October 2010 A key reason for Pearson's success was how well he used the loan market - Stockwell, Gilbert, Davies, Cleverley etc. In contrast, another of Sousa's big mistakes was his failure to lose the loan market effectively. I think the BBC in their preview of the season mentioned that this would play an important role in whether we succeed. It's been really frustrating seeing so many good players from the Prem go to our rivals on loan - Vaughan is an obvious example. Given Sven's contacts in the game allied to the fact we can't purchase anyone until January, this should see us become more effective in this area.
Wymsey Posted 3 October 2010 Posted 3 October 2010 If we buy Shittu or Zayatte (Possible?) or players like them available during this market, then hopefully the defence will be much stronger than yesterday's which was fairly shocking tbh.

I think I agree to some extent - some very good players have gone on loan to Championship clubs this season - However, i'd like to get our current crop of players playing to their potential, because I think we are probably good enough - the sign a of GOOD manager is not only one who can bring in signings, but one who can get the best out of the current squad
dandannieldanok Posted 3 October 2010 Posted 3 October 2010 For every good loan signing, there is a complete twat of a loan signing like McGivern. The loan market is not the secret to our success, it's a small component.

Shittu and Zayatte were Sousa targets so wont happen , and I expect with Svens contacts we will get better players than those 2
Trav Le Bleu Posted 3 October 2010 Posted 3 October 2010 No - making the most of what we have (and we do have some very good players with potential) will be the key. Having said that, a couple of decent loan signings camn only help strengthen the team.

I agree, we could pick up a great loanee, for example Waghorn, but surely playing the people we have and improving them can only help in the long term.
Jackirius Posted 3 October 2010 Posted 3 October 2010 Norwich virtually got promoted because of loan signings last year. Had about 8 in their starting line up some games.

m00nie Posted 3 October 2010 Posted 3 October 2010 i would deffo like to see us get a striker.. whether its loan till jan with a permanet deal then or what ever but think we really need one.. if hes going to be going down his 4-4-2 way also a right winger would be nice also..
joesmith101 Posted 3 October 2010 Posted 3 October 2010 the problem is with loan signings is that if you loan a good player it is sad to see them go and then its hard to get them back

Jackirius Posted 3 October 2010 Posted 3 October 2010 the problem is with loan signings is that if you loan a good player it is sad to see them go and then its hard to get them back It can get pretty emotional at times. Erm, aren't you limited to 5 at any one time? I duno was probably over exaggerating but they did have loads, all in their starting line up.

Having said that, a couple of decent loan signings camn only help strengthen the team. Loan signings can make that extra difference between a mid-table finish and a play-off place, particularly as we're playing catch-up now. If successful, there's a good chance those players stay on as well (Campbell at Blackpool, Shawcross at Stoke) I agree we need to make the most of the players we have now but there are a couple of positions that needs immediate strengthening - centre half, right-wing and a striker. On another note, I was just thinking about the midfield we had in League One at one point - Dyer, Davies, King and Cleverley - that wouldn't be so out of place in a Premiership team now!
padrico86 Posted 3 October 2010 Posted 3 October 2010 my friend met sven yesterday and he said he was after a former england striker who currently is not playing 4 his club, my first opinion is owen!!!!!!

Cue the OMG BRING DARIUZ VASELINE TO THE WALKERS, HE'LL SAVE OUR SEASON, HIM AND BIG STEVE UPFRONT WILL RIP DA CHAMPO DEFENCES IN TWO. ....
MPH Posted 3 October 2010 Posted 3 October 2010 the problem is with loan signings is that if you loan a good player it is sad to see them go and then its hard to get them back unless they are called Hobbs or Waghorn... In those cases we would never of got them permanently if they hadnt of come here on loan first and fallen in love with the place...
Jackirius Posted 3 October 2010 Posted 3 October 2010 my friend met sven last nite at the marriot and he told him that he is after a former england striker currently not playing for his current club!! any ideas???? Kevin Keegan? Alan Shearer?
Philbert Fox Posted 3 October 2010 Posted 3 October 2010 my friend met sven last nite at the marriot and he told him that he is after a former england striker currently not playing for his current club!! Thats rubbish, I don't believe that for one second. Either you or your mate are full of shit. I could see players he rates highly who arn't getting many games like Michael Owen joining, he'd score goals for fun in that league! I feel the area's we need to improve are in Defence and Midfield, I think our strike force is good to be fair.
