Tuition Fees

The money should have been saved by axing the shitty doss courses that provide little to no chance of obtaining a relevant job, and rediverted into creating alternatives to going to University which lead to wages and taxation.

Uni should only be for those who need it for their prospective careers or if they have a real love of learning.

What the fook is point of a degree in Business management or construction? Both require practical experience over anything else.

Bit of a contradiction there, people looking at doing these courses are looking for a career in those fields.

Both are good degrees and from a GOOD university will allow you to walk onto graduate schemes earning between 20k-40k. You won't start on anything near that amount without one.

Banks these days looks for people with degrees in Business/Economics/Maths from good universities. Construction companies look for degrees in construction management and quantity surveying to fill those positions.

Pointless degrees are certainly not business or construction related.

The Lib Dems are such bloody hypocrites. In the lead up to the election they went on and on about bringing down tuition fees and eventually abolishing them, yet now they're using the economic situation and huge deficit as an excuse for their selling out on this issue, despite the economic situation being exactly the same when they drew up their manifesto. They've lost all credibility as a party.

No comments on the non-democratically elected business secretary's literal u-turn on the tuition fee issue, instead chosing to go ahead with plans that will see entire generations of our kids trapped in a lifelong debt cycle before they've even done a days work?

I've watched in horror during the last decade as the public have developed an increasing ability to turn a blind eye to obvious near-ciminal (and sometimes totally criminal) activity by the government but this just takes the buscuit. Vince Cable has no democratic right to make such a decision and the decision he has made will ruin lives. Forcing kids to take on massive debts and then charging them interest? Profiting from an enforced debt? It's unbelievable. And this from a guy whose party pledged not to increase, but rather reduce and ultimately remove tuition fees.

Why in the name of fook is this guy allowed to get away with such blatant and potentially devestating lies when nobody even voted him into power in the first place? Where else are people allowed to get away with this level of false advertising? Why is this not a criminal offence? Why can't the public see how much havoc this government is about to wreak. There will be nothing left of this country. Who is going to be the doctors, lawyers and engineers of tomorrow if nobody can afford an education? The only option we'll have is further mass immigration. This government does not care about you, me or anyone. Infact, they almost seem as if they're taking shots at us for FUN. Causing unnecessary damage just because they feel like it. They're an utter disgrace and the sooner the middle class takes to the streets the better.

A great deal has been said since this first post, but to respond simply, I would just like to say, that you are a prime example who wants a lot, for nothing! So, sod off!:nono:

Welcome to politics, have you only just realised politians are just full of broken promises and promising you the world, delivering nothing?!

In my eyes they have done something decent for once but thats my opinion and they have obviously upset you, I'm sure they'll make decisions that will please you and upset me in due time thought, that's the thing they can't please everyone.

Back in the days when the Italian mafia had the freedom to do pretty much what they wanted, a prime example of a quick and easy scam would be to send a young boy around to say, a restaurant, armed with a satchel full of bricks and the boy would be instructed to smash the windows and generally do as much damage as possible to the property.

Later, knowing that the restaurant owner could not afford to pay for the repairs but also had no other way of making money besides his business, a more senior mafia member would pop by with a solution - he'd loan the restaurant owner the money so that he could fix up his place and get back to business.

The loan, of course, would come with an extortionate rate of interest which would essentially mean the restaurant owner would always be in the mafia's pocket. he would never be able to repay that loan.

In the case of tuition fees, the loan is being forced through the necessity of an education and the rates of interest set so that an average graduate with an average debt will have to pay £150 per month just to pay off the interest. It will likely take them decades to pay off the loan, if they ever manage it. This is a 19th century mafia style scam being played out in 2010 on the citizens of the UK by it's own government.

If being opposed to this makes me seem as though I want a lot for nothing then I apologise. I only fear for the future of my children under a government who is willing to implicate such immoral and frankly sickening ideas. I can only assume the lack of mutiny over this can be attributed directly to the equally disturbing 'dumbing down' of society, which is represented fairly well in your post.

It's not just broken promises, it's going fundamentally against what they're supposed to stand for. Everyone break promises and backtracks in politics, but the actions of the Lib Dems over the last few months have gone spectacularly past that level.

Hasn't upset me particularly, I would have been absolutely fuming had I voted Lib Dem but thankfully I didn't. And it's pretty unlikely the coalition are going to make any decisions that'll please me, I believe they're going totally the wrong way in trying to reduce the deficit but that's just my personal stance.
