ozleicester Posted 24 October 2010 Posted 24 October 2010 Due to the absurdity of Australian nanny states, it has been a lonnnnnnnnnnnng time since ive had the pleasure of bonfire night. Being a cheapskate, how should i best invest my 15-20 pounds in fireworks?
Tilley Posted 24 October 2010 Posted 24 October 2010 I was just about to make a fireworks thread. Instead asking for what reason there seem to be alot going off in the city, it isn't Diwali yet is it?!

StanSP Posted 24 October 2010 Posted 24 October 2010 I was just about to make a fireworks thread. Instead asking for what reason there seem to be alot going off in the city, it isn't Diwali yet is it?! Nah that's on the same day as bonfire night this year, ironically. Some people were doing fireworks around home and uni the other day. No idea why!
Finnegan Posted 24 October 2010 Posted 24 October 2010 Actually it was part of the Diwali celebrations, yes. The switching on of the lights - it's a fairly big event.
StanSP Posted 24 October 2010 Posted 24 October 2010 Actually it was part of the Diwali celebrations, yes. The switching on of the lights - it's a fairly big event. Ah yeah but it's not actually Diwali yet

I'm really surprised that you describe Oz as a nanny state though , I thought that they taught kids to wrestle crocodiles and box with kangaroos and stuff in primary schools
ozleicester Posted 24 October 2010 Author Posted 24 October 2010 £15 , you have been away a long time !! I'm really surprised that you describe Oz as a nanny state though , I thought that they taught kids to wrestle crocodiles and box with kangaroos and stuff in primary schools .. it has been a long time As for the nanny state.. oh yes, Oz is very very nannny... even more so than here i think (although itsearly days here), but, in Oz you can only buy sparklers, fireworks/bangers etc were all banned about 20 years ago.." too dangerous, too many fingers blown off or cats blown up" (also bushfire threat, but that was just to justify).
Webbo Posted 24 October 2010 Posted 24 October 2010 .. it has been a long time As for the nanny state.. oh yes, Oz is very very nannny... even more so than here i think (although itsearly days here), but, in Oz you can only buy sparklers, fireworks/bangers etc were all banned about 20 years ago.." too dangerous, too many fingers blown off or cats blown up" (also bushfire threat, but that was just to justify). Do they celebrate Guy Fawkes night in Australia.
Libertine Posted 24 October 2010 Posted 24 October 2010 Heard a firework going off at about 8am a few weeks ago. Proper gangster neighbourhood, honestly.

ozleicester Posted 24 October 2010 Author Posted 24 October 2010 Do they celebrate Guy Fawkes night in Australia. we did back in the day... way back in the 70s, early 80s, the population was still predominantly british, so guy fawkes was celebrated. It died off with the banning of fireworks. Now, if you apply to the local council...and leaflet drop the neighbours, you are able to buy very small fireworks, no rockets etc.. but little ones and catherine wheels etc. oh the excitment
ozleicester Posted 24 October 2010 Author Posted 24 October 2010 ah yes i was forgetting about bushfires ; ozzy girls have the reputation for being a bit reckless .. perhaps i shouldve said "pussies" getting blown up
Fosse Boy Posted 24 October 2010 Posted 24 October 2010 The first time you set off a firework is an adrenaline rush like no other.
Jon the Hat Posted 24 October 2010 Posted 24 October 2010 Fireworks you can afford to buy aren't exactly brilliant. Edit: By which I mean don;t expect the lotterywest skyworks or whatever it is called in your back garden

Cats hate fireworks, they all end up hiding inside or behind the shed etc. That suggests people were either firing fireworks at cats or strapping cats to fireworks, in which case the fireworks shouldn't be banned, those people should just be banned from purchasing them. go to a supermarket and see what you can find, they usually offer box-sets nowdays, or there are a few firework shops around (One on welford road - opposite grimsby's fish and chip shop)
ramboacdc Posted 25 October 2010 Posted 25 October 2010 are the fireworks in tesco yet? just came into some money and i wanted the 50 shot cake from tesco last year but had no money. also @ the helmand province joke.

Finnegan Posted 25 October 2010 Posted 25 October 2010 Ah yeah but it's not actually Diwali yet Well obviously. Believe it or not the Christmas Lights go on before Christmas, too...
StanSP Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 But I bet you go ape-shit crazy a week later for Bonfire Night.
