Kent Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 Sorry if this has already been posted. "More Vassell news - its my understanding Darius Vassell WILL sign a permanent contract with Leicester City in the coming day." - Stringer
MikeyT Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 Never really rated Vassell but will obviously give him full support if he came in. None of our strikers look particularly threatening at the minute so maybe Vassell can improve us, but I'm highly skeptical. Totally agree with this. No point slating him before he's even kicked a ball for us yet. I'll be supporting him as i do all the other players that line up on a Saturday.
Koke Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 We are a struggling Championship side, and yo lot wanna turn your noses up at Vassell? I have no doubt that Vassell is good enough for this division.
Houdini Logic Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 Well I did, even given how shit Gallagher and Waghorn were, we at least started to make it in to the final third of the pitch. His comedy limp as he left the field was funny. He's another one that you won't be seeing too much more of, but you keep embracing the mediocrity. To clarify - in your opinion the last 25 minutes of the match against Hull were our strongest?
HonradaRaposa Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 To clarify - in your opinion the last 25 minutes of the match against Hull were our strongest? No, we improved our second half performance markedly when Howard went off, actually after about 30 minutes we were rank rotten again.
Houdini Logic Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 No, we improved our second half performance markedly when Howard went off, actually after about 30 minutes we were rank rotten again. You talk so much crap
Guest ttfn Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 Disappointing. He's not going to improve us, at least not dramatically. His record in the last 4 yrs is woeful
J.Lisemore Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 Why do some people assume that Vassell isn't good enough for the Championship? HE HASN'T EVEN PLAYED YET.
Guest shearfox Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 Only because he wasn't great for England and struggled at Man City, doesn't mean his going to be poor for us. He has both international and prem experience, I think at this level he will do a great job.
Guest BlueBrett Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 We are a struggling Championship side, and yo lot wanna turn your noses up at Vassell? I have no doubt that Vassell is good enough for this division. Based on what? The fact that he wore an England shirt once upon a time? Or the fact that he has been pissing around in obscurity playing for Ankaragücü since being released by Man City? None of us has any basis to assume that he will be good enough. Unless of course one of you is a fanatical follower of Turkish football and feel able to mitigate the statistic that he scored 4 times in 21 over there. It is much more reasonable to assume that a player who was only ever slightly above average at best will have deteriorated with age (hence being released by City and the Turks) and therefore not be at the standard we aspire to. Sounds like the deal is getting more and more likely though so I'm hoping the available evidence turns out to be misleading. I do have faith in Sven so to any signings he makes I pledge a reasonable period of patience.
STUHILL Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 I think he will be a useful addition. I would only give him a 6month contract though so he can work for a longer term one. To be honest, I think he is a better option on the wing than N'guessen and a better option upfront than Gallagher. Not saying he will start every game but I doubt his wages will be high and he is definitely worth a punt. He has worked with Sven before and I have seen him a few times and although not a prolific goal scorer, he works his socks off and causes problems with his pace and determination. Could do well in this division too. I think people are presuming we can sign strikers of much better quality but we have to remain realistic still.
Guest shearfox Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 It can be difficult for players playing abroad, especially somewhere like turkey. Different culture, style and language so I wouldn't look to much into his record there. I'm sure he will be a good player at championship level and Sven knows him pretty well.

Les Ferdinand was picked from up playing abroad with Besikats and went on to be top golescorer with Newcatle and nearly winning the League, he was relesed by QPR. Tony Cottee is another and nearer to home his career was going nowhere until MON brought him from the Far East. I think Vassell is more than able at Champioship level.
Jimmy2Drags Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 You realise Davies hadn't played for 14 months before our game at the weekend? Yeah, but the difference is that Davies has been training with Villa & and playing for the Villa reserves. Compare that with the endless hours of FIFA Darius Vassell has been playing & hopefully you can now see where I'm coming from.
crazylegs1984 Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 Darius vassell i will most defiantly have some of that!!
crazylegs1984 Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 I'd prefer Jason Robards. Jason Roberts sounds great Robards can't say I've heard of him
STUHILL Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 I would prefer Roberts too as I think we need a more physical striker with pace, but Darius Vassel is no mug. He could cause problems for opposition defences with his work rate and pace

Yes but Les Ferdinand scored a shed load of goals wherever he went. He had a proven goalscoring track record dating back to the age of 20. Vassell on the other hand peaked at scoring 14 goals in a season 9 years ago and hasn't really come near those dizzying heights any time since.

I hate to be an anal tit, but Ferdinand only ever went on loan to Besiktas, and after over 150 games for QPR, moved to Newcastle for £6m.
marbelladave Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 I'd prefer Jason Robards. Walkers Stadium....Behind Closed Doors! Should be -deleted- interesting to see how all the -deleted- at the club behave in -deleted- private...
Trav Le Bleu Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 I KNOW WHO JASON ROBARDS IS! And I'm rather him than Vassell (who interestingly enough has a strike rate of 1 goal in 5. Wooooooohoooooooo!!! (For the record Steve Howard's is 1 in 3.3 and Jason Roberts is barely any better at 1 in 3.1))
