Howard9 Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 Sooooo Your all slagging off a player with this type of experience ? wow great fans (Y) hes a leicester player now so use some facking respect he could be our top goal scorer by the end of the seaso WHO knows so stop slagging him off and giving him a chance <_<
Collier Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 One / Two years isn't exactly long term, I doubt his wage packet will bleed funds dry, it's relatively low risk, and, in my opinion, he could prove quite handy at this level. More importantly, he gives us another option up top, where playing staff seem to be thin on the ground. He's got tonnes of experience and should be able to handle the nature of the Championship. Moderately pleased with this, actually. I don't really see what there is to moan about.

B52 Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 Good signing at this level. Not a great goalscorer but makes the defence a bit shaky. Can play both striker and winger. A lot of people seems to know shit about football. At last i believe he has nice workethics in training. Not so bad signing when you give it a thought. Look at Man City. How many players have they bought the last three years? When we sign a player think about the squad. Sven needs lots of players that can play more than one role in the team. Be nice to me. This is my first humble post.

J.Lisemore Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 That you should keep this sort of shit between you and your mate. Well, don't you look like an idiot.
Collier Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 Well, don't you look like an idiot. Not really, FYF is a decent poster.
Guest Bilo Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 Can't understand some of the ire about this signing. I'm not excited about it, his scoring rate is poor and as a former England player, I'd put him alongside Michael Ricketts rather than Michael Owen. But he's played at levels higher than the Championship and not exactly disgraced himself. He won't get 20 goals a season but if he can get 10-15 goals, Waghorn weighs in with a few more and Kingy does his stuff too then they could prove valuable. He's costing flip all, he knows English football well, Sven rates him highly and he probably isn't going to be getting silly wages. Even if he is, he'll have a one year contract which can be terminated by the summer. Not excited about it but angry? No bloody way.
Ajax Treesdown Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 Good signing by Sven. He's free and can chip in with a few goals. Some CIty fans need to get real.............WE ARE 22ND IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!! In Sven we Trust
Walkers Wench Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 I would still like to see Roberts sign! + 1
Matt Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 First thoughts and my first post in this thread were we could do better but i'll give him a chance hope he does well (Obviously) and although i'm saying we could do better, we could do alot worse and he isn't that bad, and you also have to remember we are in the Championship, a tough league but a league someone like him could score many in. Personally i'd like someone taller, and as a fan of Howard it's sad for me to say but some to replace Howard, as lets be honest he trys and I feel we are a better team with him but he lacks the main part of his position and job - goals. Basically, Darius Vassell - I'm on the fence, not too excited, not disappointed, was a fan of him at Villa apart from that he's never done anything imo, hopefully he will give us something extra and do something our current strikers are not doing - scoring goals.
Mack Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 If it's a short term deal then this is a low risk addition to the squad. Granted his scoring record is less than stunning, and he has hardly had teams banging down his door since his career stalled in Turkey, but Sven obviously rates him and in the Championship he should be a threat. Dont think it solves the striker issue though, we need a younger, fitter, faster Howard to partner Waghorn / Fryatt and Vassell is no target man.
davieG Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 With the transfer window shut and a limit on the number of loanees you can have in your squad plus the inflated transfer fees in Jan for mediocre players he's not really got a lot of choice.
Jimothy Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 Interesting Darius Vassell fact. He's never lost an English League game when he's scored.
Fox You Forest Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 Well, don't you look like an idiot. It's not the first time and it certainly won't be the last...
acooling08 Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 On BBC now. Not on OS Only cause of annoyance to me is WE NEED A BIG TALL STRONG howard replacer. Someone to win flick ons ala Heskey.
Leicfox Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 What i'm suprised at is that he's only 30, as my 1st reaction was too old. Hopefully he'll do well, but he reminds me of DJ.
Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 Some of you need to get a check on reality. DV is an ex international, you rarely get England caps for Fook all, I know there are some examples people have mentioned who have but i'll add another one now - Guppy, but I fookin loved him. I think DV is a no brainer. Free, experienced, known by the manager. We are in the relegation zone of the 2nd tier, I for one am happy with him & so far Svens incomings have looked good. Although, word of warning, Davies is potentially trouble. I hope he is at city for a fresh start, that's all on saying on that one.
dannythefox Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 Why dont people give the bloke a chance ? It would of been nice to get a BIG unit upfront but thats life!

Koke Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 As davieG said, the transfer window is closed, so Sven is basically operating with one hand tied behind his back. Give Vassell a chance. Solano and Powell were well into their 30's when they signed for us, and they turned out to be solid additions to our squad. EDIT: And the comparison with Ricketts is silly. Ricketts has been a joke since he left Bolton in 2003, and has been messing about in the lower leagues ever since.
Dames Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 If he plays on the right his pace could be dangerous which is the position i honestly think Svens signed him for. I'm 100% sure he would be better than Oakley and DNG in those positions.
