mountsorrel fox Posted 9 November 2010 Posted 9 November 2010 The clothing company Hollister told a woman to take her poppy of for work. BBC news link
Trav Le Bleu Posted 9 November 2010 Posted 9 November 2010 I love it! Typo/spelling mistake repeated twice Oh, sorry, you were making a serious point
Jon the Hat Posted 9 November 2010 Posted 9 November 2010 The clothing company Hollister told a woman to take her poppy of for work. BBC news link Should that not read "officious idiot who happened to be working for Hollister told woman to take poppy off for work"
Orkneyfox Posted 9 November 2010 Posted 9 November 2010 Can I be outraged? There should be a public enquiry! Perhaps I should be in the poppy dock as well. I have bought at least 3 this year and keep forgetting to wear them and lost last years so I couldn't iron it for this year. Glad to see that this year you can get some with proper pins in, not just the "safety" plastic stalk poppy of recent times.
Zingari Posted 9 November 2010 Posted 9 November 2010 Should that not read "officious idiot who happened to be working for Hitler told woman to take poppy off for work" he was only following orders
StanSP Posted 9 November 2010 Posted 9 November 2010 One word - ridiculous. And a few more - political correctness gone TOO far.
FoxyPV Posted 9 November 2010 Posted 9 November 2010 Surely it would make wearing a poppy more special to wear it only on 11th November?
Bellend Sebastian Posted 9 November 2010 Posted 9 November 2010 Perhaps they're big Jon Snow fans. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1326063/Jon-Snow-poppy-fascism-row-C4-News-host-refuses-surrender.html?ITO=1490 What a to do. I'm a little bemused that people get so hot under the collar about all this. As soon as she finishes work she can wear a poppy the size of her head if she wants to, and as for Jon Snow, what bloody difference does it make if he wears one or not? He could have given £10,000 to the Poppy Appeal for all we know. If he started wearing one now because of all the fuss people have made that would make him much more of a twat than for simply refusing to wear one

DB11 Posted 9 November 2010 Posted 9 November 2010 There are always political correctness stories like this. Doesn't surprise me anymore, and I am tending towards the media making a mountain out of a molehill.
Matt Posted 9 November 2010 Posted 9 November 2010 Maybe they require a fire certificate? Yeah, I've heard anyone turning up to Walkers tomorrow will be sent away or asked to remove on entry to the stadium.
Zingari Posted 9 November 2010 Posted 9 November 2010 they'll allow those trick ones that squirt water
Mee Posted 9 November 2010 Posted 9 November 2010 Remove Inappropriate Poppy ? How long did that one take you? I think it is disrespectful not letting her wear it. Fook the dress code, remember the war heroes.
MikeyT Posted 10 November 2010 Posted 10 November 2010 One word - ridiculous. And a few more - political correctness gone TOO far. This.
Finnegan Posted 10 November 2010 Posted 10 November 2010 One word - ridiculous. And a few more - political correctness gone TOO far. This. No. It's got absolutely nothing to do with political correctness in any way, shape or form. PC gets blamed for enough as it is. She wasn't asked to remove it because it was offensive, she was asked to remove it by some complete jobsworth because it wasn't "part of her uniform." Anyone who has ever worked in retail knows the type. This is a complete and total non-story. Who the hell has an argument with some power-tripping twat at work and goes "Oh I know I'll ring the BBC?" What a complete load of shit. This constitutes news!? Seriously? How many wars are currently going on globally without any media coverage what so ever, yet THIS is disrespectful to all the thousands serving in armed forces around the world!? Shitting hell.

Exactly. The BBC really fook me off these days.
Finnegan Posted 10 November 2010 Posted 10 November 2010 You can't blame the beeb, they're under the same pressure to mass produce profitable news media that everyone else is, maybe more so given the demands of public fee. Thi is cheap, easy 'news' and reactions like those I quoted are evidence that they got what they were after. Blame capitalism, modernism and the global fall of the news industry , not just the bbc.
ramboacdc Posted 10 November 2010 Posted 10 November 2010 i can honestly say ive worked in retail or customer sales for nearly 6 years and never been told to remove my poppy when it comes to this time of year but i did have a go at my boss the other day when he told me i wasnt allowed to put the poppy box out because it stopped the customers giving to sue ryder care charity and it was in the way. he is south african so after i explained he lets me put the poppy box out or get killed by every customer he soon backed down. footnote: i am not saying sue ryder care does not deserve money.
Finnegan Posted 10 November 2010 Posted 10 November 2010 Sue Ryder have an agreement with your company? If so, I don't see that he's wrong.
