Three Trialists

From Stringer

Leicester City have 3 trialists and all 3 will play in a reserve game tomorrow against Notts County. 1 keeper, 1 midfielder, 1 striker.

Pancrate as striker...? Is he still a trialist with us?

No, we sent him packing.

Not a fan of trialists myself, if the Thai guys are gonna back us as much as they make out then i'm not sure they are the answer. Because 99% of the time they haven't got a contract for a reason.

No idea who the keeper and midfielder could be.

I heard Sven has decided against giving Pancrate a contract can't remember where.

Giving that the transfer window isn't open it's one of the best options and we don't really lose anything if they aren't good enough, while we could gain a good player if they do impress enough.

Definitely, the only time in this scenario that it may work is when they belong to another club and they are training with us with a view to a move in January. Like we did with the 2 Hungarians and that Slovenian lad who we never then signed who turned out to be mustard, Pecjnik or whatever his name was. But even then they tend not to work out.

Isn't the Swedish season over soon? Might have a couple of them over for a gig.

The problem is they will most probably be wanting a contract longer than 6 months / a year. And... how many good trialists have we ever had?

Agreed there is nothing wrong with having a look, they just very seldom ever work out.

I think Sven's resorting to trialists (they're mostly 'free agents', not under contract) because he's coming up to his limit in Loan players. He's only allowed 5 loaned players each match squad - and he'll often want to play 4 that we've currently got (Naughton, Davies, Cunningham & Vitor), that leaves only 1 more that he can sign and play. I think he's desperate to get a (big) striker in - Miller / Bednar / Santa Cruz / Roberts, all been mentioned - and if he does, that doesn't leave any room for another Loanee. I think he's still keen to get another keeper in (and get rid of Ikeme) - possibly in place of Weale. SO that means, for signings until January, he can only go for Free Agents (we know he's looked at Rensing and Pancrate). I guess (with 'no go' on those 2) he's considering other out-of-contract players. All guesswork on my part, I know ...... ?!

From what I heard he's not hired by the club. He works as a consultant to Sven. But I'm not sure exactly how it is.

Anyway he is scouting for Leicester City.

I'd had that thought myself, as long as they are willing to accept a short contract then I don't mind as it's easy to get rid.

Sven's trying to build on the chilled atmosphere he's established within the squad.

The 3 trialists are Dutch youth internationals from Sparta Schpliff, names of Winken, Blinken and Nodd.
