scott_gunnell Posted 4 December 2010 Posted 4 December 2010 Sorry to say this but there are a lot of fans on here that seriosuly need to try and focus on the positives as well as the negatives. I didnt see the game but I am sure there must have been some good things to note. Most of the posts are about what went wrong and not what went right. You have to be fair. Sven needs time and Im sorry some of you thought he would bring in some class players and you would win every game and have every problem solved in weeks. The reality is that time will be needed but I am still confident Sven will finish in the play offs at least. I dont get to see the games so I have to watch the results coming in and I would like to hear some more positives. I thought it was really good that at 2-0 down the team clawed back to 2-2. Yes no doubt the away record isnt good but I think so far Sven has worked magic and he deserves respect and time to get the away form right. There are 26 games left...... Judge Sven over his time in charge, not losing today. Watching Leicester on Monday night was great and I saw loads of positives. So...... come on lads........ what where the positives?
sdb Posted 4 December 2010 Posted 4 December 2010 Bit harsh on Gally. I'll take a poor performance and two goals every day of the week. Dyer should be playing, and Waggy needs more game time too. What's the extent of Kirklands injury btw, I never heard?
southdevonfox Posted 4 December 2010 Posted 4 December 2010 Absolute CRAP again, Sven the end is nigh very poor defending yet again, and whats with some of these players , they play a blinder 1 week and dont turn up the next , and why cant we score from corners , oh well another weekend feeling down very

Monday night the boys where in control for most periods and broke down a good defence to win, and kept a clean sheet at the back. However by the sounds of it today wasnt as solid first half but the responce was good. Early stages of a project which could go on for years with SGE

Early stages of a project which could go on for years with SGE The problem is that our back 4 are not used to playing together and probably never will be, it is highly unlikely that the will all be with us after January and I think Davies and possibly Naughton are well aware of that fact. To me they seem to play as if they are in an audition, much more interested in their individual performance than playing for the team. I know we are in a very strange position at the moment but we really need to do better so that we are in position to take advantage of the stability we should have after January.
Guest ttfn Posted 4 December 2010 Posted 4 December 2010 Bit harsh on Gally. I'll take a poor performance and two goals every day of the week. The two goals were a penalty and a free kick. It's not like he got into two great positions and banged them in. The free kick was crap, god knows how Loach didn't save it. Were you there? I feel like you must have written this from the perspective of somebody who hasn't just watched Gallagher do a passable Junior Lewis impression.
Shrenchel Posted 4 December 2010 Posted 4 December 2010 We shaded it overall imo, not nearly as shite as everyone's making out. Regardless of his crackin free-kick and the penno he just about squeezed in, some of Gallagher's misses were fvcking criminal, looks so shifty in front of goal. I'd probably pipe myself in the car if I was a watford fan, fvcking depressing shithole and awful awful fans.
Bablemikey Posted 4 December 2010 Posted 4 December 2010 A positive view would be scoring two goals away from home, which would usually be enough to get you at least a point. Sadly we conceded three. We are most definately a work in progress and undoubtedly there will be more frustrations and poor performances along the way, but I'd suggest that since the arival of SGE and the players he's brought in there is good reason to think that over the long term we will be greatly improved. I still don't believe we will be promoted this term but next season I would expect us to be a prime contender. Then you just need a campaign with a bit of luck along the way.
Bert Posted 4 December 2010 Posted 4 December 2010 Yeah, the free-kick only went in due to loach's awful positioning. He managed to get a hand to it, and to the penalty too.
Tommeh Posted 4 December 2010 Posted 4 December 2010 Typical over the top knee jerk reactions on here as usual. We started poor and a £12M odd defence should not concede goals like that. Still, we fought back well and had Yuki's acrobatic effort nestled, would have collected all 3. Still not sold on Bednar (possibly fitness though) Vassell blows hot and cold, Gallaghers goals got him out of a 5/6 rating, Just...but again Abe and Wellens were excellent. Similar to the Palace game, started poorly and gave ourselves too much to do. Give Watford credit though they were a much better outfit than recent sides faced away like Bristol City, Barnsley and Leeds. We'll be ok just need a bit of consistancy, hardly something to cry and ruin your weekend about. Top, top mental for the equaliser.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 4 December 2010 Posted 4 December 2010 A shit frist half, and a great second half, it was definitely a point dropped but we should easily have won, the amount of chances we missed. Watford were not very good at all. The defence was a shambles today, yes most players were in the first half, but from the start we were out muscled, lookded slow, lost all the 50/50s and Watford really did do fook all to take the lead. Gallagher despite scoring two, had a dreadful game. No doubt people will disagree with me, but he was shocking. He scored a penalty which he did his best to miss and a free kick which I could have scored as the keeper was stood almost on hsi opposite post. He didnt win any headers as usual, easily got pushed around and hoofed the ball mostly. He had two very good chances to score, one from a free header which was so poor it was harmlessly caught by Loach and another shot from inside the area again straight at Loach. Really had a shocker, how he stayed on the field I dont know. All he does is score a good free kick now again, and fans start raving about him, when to be honest all he can do is take the odd set piece. Abe had fairly good game, until he missed a chance which should have been scored, opting for an over head kick. Wellens was great again, ran the show in the second half was the real playmaker, hitting the balls outwide and creating chances. Weale had a shcoker first half, rushing out of goal for no reason costing a goal. Hobbs was back to Hobbs under Sousa, not winning any headers and being bullied by Graham, the same can be said for Davies too. Overall I'm thoroughly annoyed we didnt win, let alone draw as we had so many chances it was embarrassing. The atmosphere was great, all the fans behind the team, and I really thought we were going to get the third. I have no doubt we will come higher than Watford this season, how we lost to them I dont know. Sven really does need to work on the defence, but the priority has to be the shooting, unbelievable how poor we are at converting chances.
Guest ttfn Posted 4 December 2010 Posted 4 December 2010 I thought Martin Taylor and Danny Graham were pretty good for Watford today.

Ford Super Sunday Posted 4 December 2010 Posted 4 December 2010 Ain't gonna win a game when your team are playing in slippers That is all.
orangecity23 Posted 4 December 2010 Posted 4 December 2010 Just before it's taken, you hear someon say 'he won't score'.
Rich Fox Posted 4 December 2010 Posted 4 December 2010 same old story i think , players still get paid no matter what the result , its the fans who suffer , i`d like to think that the players weekends are ruined by these poor results , but i honestly dont think so , i agree that building a team takes time , but how can you build a team for the future with so many loan players ? and 1 thing that is really clear , we cannot defend and untill that problem is sorted out we aint going anywhere soon . He could only do loan signings as the window was closed I think svens loanees have done ok. I think Vitor should have played if fully fit as he is a class above Hobbs.
Dylan Posted 4 December 2010 Posted 4 December 2010 First half was shocking- haven't seen City play that bad in ages- didn't look up for it. Not closing them down, not a lot of effort, and we were just terrible Second half; complete different story. Played much better- quick to close them down, and as soon as we scored that penalty you could feel we'd get another. We just dominated the second half, and I feel Gally should've put away at least one of his two chances. Need to finish chances like that if we want play-offs. Once we grabbed that second, I was sure we would go onto win it. We were on top, and were playing good. When that ball was headed back across by Hobbs, I thought Abe was going to bury it. The goals we conceded were shocking. The first; unmarked in the box. Our defending from set pieces is POOR; whenever the opposition get a free-kick/corner I get scared we're going to concede. The second; SIMPLE over the top ball, which our two centre-back's failed to deal with. You'd get angry seeing it at sunday league level, never mind the 2nd tier of English football. Then Weale coming out and making a complete mess of it topped off a poor goal to concede. If he's going to commit, he has to get it. Not seen a replay, but looked like he just turned away from it once their striker came. The third; another free header, from a simple cross into the box. Must've been one of their only attempts on goal in the 2nd half. All in all, shit 1st half, decent 2nd half. We need to improve on defending from crosses/set-pieces, and scoring from corners. Its coming closer. Doncaster a must win now.
North-LondonFox Posted 4 December 2010 Posted 4 December 2010 We are still looking good but I was a bit gutted with the substitution of Kingy for Oakley and not getting Dyer on - I think we had the players to win the game today. Not slaaging Sven off cos he's a legend but thought he got it wrong today!
Dylan Posted 4 December 2010 Posted 4 December 2010 Also, their support was completely shit. Even at 2-0, you couldn't hear them.
marbelladave Posted 4 December 2010 Posted 4 December 2010 So, think we can play? The first half strongly suggests otherwise, we appear to be overconfident, lacking in focus and commitment, very poor. Difficult to say what is going wrong, conditions are awful, drizzle, a pitch that is both uneven and slippery and a fair number of players look they would rather be at home in the warm. Naughton seems unable to really get into the game, Davies looks like he is trying to get through the game without breaking sweat, Hobbs is back to his jittery worst, only Cunningham seems to be playing well, going forward at least. Our midfield is not impressive, lots of running but poor shape and lacking any real composure. There is no-one covering the back 4 and at times Watford had all the space they need into play the ball about and put us under pressure. What little possession we had was largely wasted by a combination of poor passing and even worse control, we never threatened until the last 10 minutes. The first goal was woeful defending, Mutch had acres of space on the right, Cunningham was in the 6 yard box defending a corner and no one closed him down he had time to find Eustace unmarked in the box, whose shot did not have much pace but beat Weale with relative ease. Similarly the second goal came from Hobbs hesitation in dealing with a simple long ball, then as the ball broke towards our area Weale came out and missed what should have been a routine clearance, leaving Buckley to score in an empty net. City were in shock, only building up pressure towards the end of the first half, culminating in a decent chance from a free kick on the edge of the box but Gallagher failed to hit the target. Second half was all change, City came out with energy and determination, neither of which they displayed first half. City were all over Watford and within 5 minutes a driven cross from Naughton was handled in the box and Gallagher scored from the spot. City continued to pour forward but their momentum was somewhat drained by enforced substitutions, Howard coming on for Bednar and Oakley for King. It took City a while but chances were coming, several falling to Gallagher who once again showed that he is no striker. Eventually a free kick on the edge of the box was hammered home by Gallagher, Loach though, should have done better. At 2-2 City continued to push for the winner but more dreadful defending following a corner allowed Mutch time and space (again!) to cross for Graham to score, once again our much vaunted defence was largely absent… Despite frantic attempts to get forward we never really looked like getting on terms for a second time, and overall we probably did not deserve to. Hard to sum up really, we were woeful first half, very decent for most of the second half, yet threw it away with some kamikazi defending at the end. A poor team performance overall, though many of our players played well, second half at least, they simply are not gelling as a team, Davies and Hobbs combine like they have just been introduced, Wellens, Abe and King all do, more or less the same job, Gallagher is never going to make a proper striker and neither Bednar nor Vassell appear to be fully fit.
The Doctor Posted 4 December 2010 Posted 4 December 2010 kick in the teeth to have fought back from 2-0 down only to then blow it. Foward line is still an issue - very few of our strikers are prolific enough, and those that are anywhere near prolific (fryatt, possibly waghorn) can't really play that centre striker role. I'd like to see dyer get a go, him and vassell on either side would absolutely terrorise defences at this level with their pace. Still onwards and upwards.
North-LondonFox Posted 4 December 2010 Posted 4 December 2010 Totally agree mate - Dyer and Darius either side of Howard or Bednar for me. Come on boys let's get it together and kick on for the PO's - we are more than a match for most teams in this div!

Totally agree about the strikers, they just dont fit into this formation. Dyer and Vassell on the wings hasnt been tested properly, but I cant see how it wouldnt work with two quick full backs behind them. Dyer in the past hasnt missed as many chances as Gallagher either.
