Watford FC vs. Leicester City Post-match thread

For the first 40 minutes we were really poor, two very disappointing goals to concede, the first was a shot unmarked in the box and for the second Weale had to get it if he came for it. He didn't and it cost us.

Second half we started postively, Bednar had a header very close to being over the line, and then Gallagher confidently hit the penalty in. After that he could've had another couple with a shot and a header before a lovely free-kick to equalise. Shame that we lost in the end because I thought we'd done enough to get the point.

At the moment we seem to follow a great or good win with a below par result or performance, really need to sort out the away form because that is what is holding us back currently.

i love Gallagher, but i just thought if he could up his game when on the pitch, not just from dead balls, he would be a great player, his inability to head the ball baffles me, he is pretty tall, but never even tries. He can play well at some points, but tries to many hollywood balls that he might pull of occasionally.

anyways him scoring first for leicester won me 20 quid so keep up the good work Gally :scarf:

Also, Oakley; a player who hasn't scored in ages, way past it, and overall- shit, subbed on for King; our topscorer, and biggest threat, whilst 2-1 down?

Am I the only one who was confused by this?

This.

Totally agree about the strikers, they just dont fit into this formation.

Dyer and Vassell on the wings hasnt been tested properly, but I cant see how it wouldnt work with two quick full backs behind them. Dyer in the past hasnt missed as many chances as Gallagher either.

I agree, but Gallagher has done far more than Vassell. Vassell has had one good half. He's also scored none. Say what you like about Gallagher but he does have 4 goals, Vassell has none. I'm not saying Gallagher wasn't shit today but he has had some good performances recently, namely Derby, after which I can't understand why anyone would say he does nothing but 'score a free kick now and then'.

For me he's far better than Vassell who should be dropped instead, certainly in this formation.

King may've been taken off as a precaution, I would've brought Dyer on to replace him.

I think Vassell was actually better than Gallagher today, but he hardly had a good game. Vassell hasnt had all the cahcnes Gallagher has, ok that might be through not creating them for himself, but generally I feel Vassell offered a bit more. He is quick, Gallagher isnt. Although he seems to get the ball run with it straight into two opposition players in the box, least you feel like he is getting somewhere. And his run paid off against Forest, though that was a bit lucky. Vassell wins much more in the air. Gallagher isnt small, but has no strength what so ever, gets bullied easily and is useless in the air, jumps and gets no where near it.

I'm not Vassell's biggest fan, but I really dont rate Gallagher at all, dont think he is terrible, but he could be so much better and at times thinks he is better than he actually is.

I'd rather have Dyer and Vassell running at people, rather than Gallagher chipping in with the odd set piece and generally chipping the ball into the box over and over again.

I do think that both Vassell and Gallagher seem to be 'favourites' of Sven, how ever poor they are they have been in the majority of his starting line ups, and I dont see that changing soon.

Though it is all about opinion.

King was noneffective today..

I know what he means though mate. I was some what surprised myself. Although i agree with you in the fact that King did nothing special today, he is one of those players who you can rely on to grab you a goal when you look unlikely to get one.

And then on comes Oakley...lol

Who wasnt?

King was no worse than some others, but he did set up a great chance for Gallager which he should have buried.

Didnt understand that substitution, maybe he was injured or something.

Very disappointed but we are totally clueless on our travels at the moment..

Lets hope we do a Forest of last year and become formidable at home which we are looking like we could do

Just what I was about to say. At that stage, who was playing well? And King is always a threat from midfield. And if your going to replace him, why Oakley who hasn't scored in about 2 years when we need a goal. Surely Dyer would be a smarter choice.

Need to improve on our travels or we can wave bye bye to the playoffs.

A striker who can bang them in surely has to be on the top of Sven's Christmas list. Or two of them.

You probably know how we feel from recent away trips now.

Go down early on not playing that well but battling back before throwing any points away again!

Did think we rather gifted you the 2 goals..poor goalkeeping by Loach albeit I guess we were handled our 2nd on a plate.

I think we just about edged it on chances but it would have not surprised me if you'd nicked a late equaliser.

Thankfully for once from our point of view that didn't happen.

Anyway very good suport and good luck for the season.

Seems to be a decent game when you guys come down (if not a little frustrating!)

BTW I thought you Japanaese player was the most impressive and I was thinking King must have been injured?

Forest were poor on there travels last year but look what they did?

Agree with the striker comment tho, Bednar will be handy to have but i feel we need more

Their immense home form made up for it though. They won 18 out of 23 home games. We'd need to win every single home game from now to match that.

And they still average a point an away game last year which is not the worst when your that good at home. We've got 7 points from 10 games.

Disappointed, 2-2 would have been fair, first half we deserved to be 2-0 down, maybe more, 2nd half we were abit better, but if i'm honest can't remember (Which may be due to beer) too many chances other than what we scored from.

Must do better.

Simple then we just gotta win all our remaining home games and get Russia and Qatar to pay off every other team we have to play away

This football lark is easy!

I thought you should have tried a shot from just outside the area a few times...we are usually pretty good at giving away such goals on a regular basis!

Both keepers had a couple of blocks to make but nothing major considering there were 5 goals of which 3 could be blamed to either goalie.

First half was terrible, our defending was piss poor, we couldn't keep the ball and Hobbs had far too much to do. It took two goals to finally wake us up, and in fairness the latter part of the half was encouraging. I still felt as though we could get something from it, and sure enough we came out of the traps quickly.

Early goal with a penalty I thought was justified, and then a lovely free-kick from Gallagher looked like we could be on our way to another win. The momentum was all with us, but for some reason we just decided to sit back and let Watford back into it. Abe should have got his acrobatic effort on target and probably should have scored, but as it happened he blazed over, they went up the other end and got us with a sucker punch.

There were some cracking passages of play from us at times, and I felt as though the team were pulling together as one after Watford's first two goals. Naughton struggled in particular this afternoon, but there were others in the side who were there to usually patch up his errors.

Disappointing to get nothing from that, but poor defending and a costly lack of finishing have done it again.

Leicester mercury headlines so ironic when you read them after the event! "Chris Weale determined to remember Leicesters clash at Watford"!! He certainly will remember it - for another f@@k up that cost us a win. And before I get "He kept us in it second half" too late I'm afraid as damage was already done.

Joe speaks sense as always. Sums my views up.

Very disappointing after getting level not to go on and win it.

Quickly shout out to the FT crowd we saw today, especially Singh who provided great banter on the way home.

i completely agree with everything that has been said  our away form is shocking, we would be in deep poo poo if we dint have a good home record to be honest! the season is no way over people still 20 games (60 points etc) or so to go for god sake! :@ im sure sven will bring in the talent at jan and we will start picking it up (esp away from home) COME ON YOU FOXES! :scarf: well done to the support today and great spirit from the lads to fight back :appl:
