Kingylcfc Posted 26 December 2010 Posted 26 December 2010 i think he should have been a red. Even if it was just a yellow after Gally had placed the ball he picked it up surely a bookable offence for time wasting
MOT Posted 26 December 2010 Posted 26 December 2010 There are two Leeds players right next to him, so maybe the ref believed he wasn't the last man. Vassell totally bought it though, played for it all the way.
Asha Posted 27 December 2010 Posted 27 December 2010 There are two Leeds players right next to him, so maybe the ref believed he wasn't the last man. Vassell totally bought it though, played for it all the way. But there's no rule about 'last man'. It's about denying a clear goalscoring opportunity, which you can't even deny was the case.
breadandcheese Posted 27 December 2010 Posted 27 December 2010 I thought there was a drive not to send off keepers if they gave away a penalty as they're pretty much always going to be last man so a penalty's enough of a punishment. On this basis, I think the ref got it right.
Guest BlueBrett Posted 27 December 2010 Posted 27 December 2010 But thats bulls.hit. Sends out the message that if you don't think you can get the ball you may as well just nail the man because there's always a chance you'll save the pen.
Tommeh Posted 27 December 2010 Posted 27 December 2010 Letter of the law, he has to go. It's not even up for debate and was madness that he stayed on.
RowlattsFox Posted 27 December 2010 Posted 27 December 2010 I thought there was a drive not to send off keepers if they gave away a penalty as they're pretty much always going to be last man so a penalty's enough of a punishment. On this basis, I think the ref got it right. I hope they start doing this. Keepers get sent off so easily in them sort of situations, so unless its cynical then I think common sense should be applied. The same rule should be applied to defenders as well, it shouldn't be an automatic red card.
Dylan Posted 27 December 2010 Posted 27 December 2010 As I said in a previous post, can you possibly say this is not a clear goalscoring opportunity? Even if the touch was slightly heavy, and he would have to take a touch before shooting, there's no way the keeper would get up and back in time. At best there would be a defender on the line- so is still a clear goalscoring opportunity. Look at the image, can you honestly say that Darius Vassell does not have a CLEAR GOALSCORING OPPORTUNITY there?
ajthefox Posted 27 December 2010 Posted 27 December 2010 having seen it on the football league show again I thought it looked like a dive.. they're right cvnts though, they showed leeds' pen appeal but forgot to mention Bednar was floored in their box, total bollocks.

Floored?? That was a grounding that in judo would have won you medals!!! The ref was poor today, keeper should have seen red and a second penalty!!
Guest Mee-9 Posted 27 December 2010 Posted 27 December 2010 Thought Vassell was looking for the penalty rather than trusting himself to finish. Looks like he knocked it too far past Schmeichel too. But fair play Vassell. Should of been sent off anyway.

smallpauldj Posted 27 December 2010 Posted 27 December 2010 this for me is the difference between a player whos played at the top level of football and Fryatt. The amount of times Fryatt could have had pens over the years but just never made the fall look good enough. We all knew Vassell could have avoided that collision just like the ref at ipswich knew the game should have been postponed.
MOT Posted 27 December 2010 Posted 27 December 2010 right next to him did you say? not the last man? Well they are 2 or 3 yards away, and in real-time it's possible the ref thought they were behind Kasper.
lcfc_jme Posted 27 December 2010 Posted 27 December 2010 No doubt in my mind that if the 'keeper was playing AGAINST Leeds or any other "big" club he'd have walked. Ref absolutely fvcking bottled it, absolute disgrace. Shame really, 'cos he'd had a good first half.
Alexikokopops Posted 27 December 2010 Posted 27 December 2010 Can I just say, once and for all, the "last man" rule is completely fabricated. The rule is based on "denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity". And, for the record, I don't think it was a red. Vassell was struggling to get there, and even if he did, it was going to be a ridiculously acute angle with a defender covering. Not an obvious opportunity in my opinion.
Finnegan Posted 27 December 2010 Posted 27 December 2010 Rare this happens but I disagree with Alex. Letter of the law, stonewall red card in my opinion - I was furious. I was also dead level with the Bednar penalty and that was blatant, as well. No doubt Vassell went looking for it but that does't really matter, does it? Once the ref has blown up he has to apply the correct punishment. The two bookings in the first half (Howard and whoever it was for them) for being petulant were fantastic; he stuck to his guns, he was consistent in first and forty forth minute, he showed he'd be strict and he was keeping a lid on things. Second half? Bottled it. Kasper's a very lucky boy. All of that said, however, these threads are starting to piss me off. Snow last week, penalty this week, what's it going to be next week? We need to lose / lose points more graciously.
colbo68 Posted 27 December 2010 Posted 27 December 2010 i think he should have been a red. Yellow card utterly mad decision

purpleronnie Posted 27 December 2010 Posted 27 December 2010 Nope, vassell wouldn't have got the ball, what about the leeds penalty shout?
davieG Posted 27 December 2010 Posted 27 December 2010 Nope, vassell wouldn't have got the ball, what about the leeds penalty shout? It went the same was as the Bednar penalty shout.
