Reality?

Given our current league position, if we have any hope of challenging for a play off place I feel we have to move sooner rather than later in the transfer window.

I strongly believe with two or three additions in the correct area we have enough strength to push on.

My problem is that Scen appears to be gunning for the big names. When this fails, we are then linked with older (but in their time very good players).

However as we have seen with the Likes of Pires at Villa this doesnt always work.

3 players I feel could make a difference are much more likely to come given a decent offer, maybe in the region of around £6 million for all of them would be ..

Danny Graham (Scoring week in, week out) and Scott Sinclair. Plus, if he comes available Curtis Davies.

Any thoughts?

spot on but as the title of your topic suggests reality is that these players are not available and all the dead wood are approaching Sven and we are left with trusting his judgment. To be fair to the likes of Curtis Davies he sees himself as a Prem player and he will be waiting for that to happen sooner rather than later. I am sure Sven has got a few in the bag..he has good contacts. Its a question of watch this space

I too thought we'd hit the ground running, but it seems you can't even speak to another manager until the window opens. Apart from Sven speaking to his mate Mancini of course for Mee.

Everyone knew Beckham was likely to come to the Prem and that's been far from a done deal which is odd considering how short a time he is available & it can take a few weeks to settle. It just proves that things take a while.

Some good shouts for signings

Big target man in the yakubu mould have vassell running off him in a 4-4-2, lyord dyer on the left, I'll get Jason puncheon from Southampton on the right, king and wellness in the middle, I'll try to keep berner and play him and naughton full backs, hobbs and bamba centre backs, and weale in goal but I'll get a back up goalkeeper, what about Alex smithies from huddersfeild ?

I would like to get two men properly upfront but I'd fear for a midfield which only contained Wellens & King

Who's gonna tackle, or will our defence be under constant pressure?

I get your point, however if you offer enough money to these team I.E Watford who have already said that should a substantial offer come in they would not be able to refuse it given their financial situation.

We are fortunate compared to most teams in this league that we have the money behind us now supposedly, not everyone including swansea (scott sinclair) have this luxury.

I just think it's more likely that we would sign these than the like of Yakubu for X amount of millions. Also, as I said we cannot affor to wait around for these premiership teams to find replacements on the chance they may let us have somebody on the last day of the window?

There are so many players "linked" to Leicester the internet must be running slow. If cigarettes had "Players" on the label, they'd be linked to Leicester.

We're just like a railway company, we've got links in all directions but the reality is we've been running late all season and it's going to be damned difficult to make up the time.

Sven might be more persuasive than "Grin and Blair It" but, for all that he can put piles of other people's money on the table, the table that counts says we play in The Championship and are still a little way off the pace and that's not persuasive at all.

We either take Premiership club players who're not wanted for whatever reason - and likely get no more than a bit of cheap publicity and a few extra shirt sales- or we get people from the Championship or lower leagues and see if our coaches are good enough to get the best from them.

If our owners didn't want everything to happen yesterday we really could compete for the best available "potential" and perhaps put together an outstanding side for next season. But instead we're starting to sound desperate - so desperate that I'm afraid we'll take on the footballing equivalent of slappers instead of stunners cos that's all we'll find to be willing and available.

There could of course be a string of pleasant surprises any day now but time is passing fast.

And what worries me so far is that we've shipped Fryatt out before getting a replacement in and I'd have much prefered it the other way around.

But that's all for tomorrow. Right now I'm looking forward to a stunning performance against Manchester City. I'm just remembering how Spurs came here all cocky and expecting to put it up us.... :scarf::scarf:

Why don't you jump one of the other threads with fickle "fans" slating Sven's attraction........ :frusty:

If Sven believes a player is worth having why moaning. It just don't make sense before you know how it turned out. :dunno:

Not a big smoker than Thracian???

And although I appreciate your sentiments, I don't see Sven covorting with players of the 'slappers' variety (or females of the same type, he seems to like a classey bird). I reckon Sven is looking for quality players, but where they have a bit to prove as well - I wonder if half the stories we've heard is more Agent contacting Sven than Sven contacting club for a deal - there's plenty of engineering going on, thats for sure.

Although a 'big' signing in the mould of Beckham, Keane or even Yakubu etc. would boost shirt sales/merchandise, they come with the disadvantage of having 'nothing to prove' - we've seen this of course with Keown and the 'poisoned dwarf' W*se. However, if we attempt to coax hungry, less established players to the club, this can have the opposite effect of enabling these signings to play 'out of their skin' as they have something to prove. My list of potential targets, excluding defenders, would be:-

Danny Graham (Watford)

Steve Morison (Millwall) both decent targetmen

Charlie Austin

Jason Puncheon

Jamie O'Hara (from Spurs, not in first team yet)

Jordan Rhodes

Keigan Parker

or as a defender, Paul Gallagher's lookalike Matt Mills for Reading.

I even rated Gylfi Sigurdsson when he was at Reading, but he has moved subsequently.

Heard from one of my families' friends that knows the Thai owners that we are trying to sign Jason Roberts. :S

That was rumoured before in the papers wasnt it? Then he played for Blackburna few times and bagged a ouple of goals straight afterwards or something typical.

Are you on about the Keigan Parker thats currently at Mansfield Town?

I noticed Roberts had gone quiet again at Rovers too, but apparantely he's been injured returning in a week or so. Not sure how he will figure under the new gaffer. He might be more interested now we have moved up the league and put in a performance against Man City.

Would be a top signing for the Champ.

I'd but Abe or Oakley instead of king, kings only decent with 3 midfielders so he can get forward. You don't want him dissapearing in games like usual. I would also get a new gk to replace Weale and a new lb as Berner is too slow.

Ok that makes sense - providing we just ignore the double figure goal tally, the movement and space created then :dunno:

As for the big names I doubt there will be any signed until the last few days / hours of the transfer window. Like Curtis Davis they will all be hanging on for a big club to come in for them. When no big clubs do and there current manager tells them they are surplus to requirements we will have a chance that they might think "**** it! Better go and play for Sven then!"

I dont think we want or need Curtis Davis full stop.

Afraid I must be.. OMG I always rated him, but looks like the only one that does. Now I know why I'm not a football manager lol

I only noticed because he scored the other day, and thought bloody hell he's gone down hill!
