CKB Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 Delighted with the result, i feared another late, late equalizer but was chuffed when the FT whistle was blown! Barnsley won't be easy so anyone who says "easy 3pts, easy this and easy that" obviously hasn't got a bloody clue how this division works and let alone Barnsley are only 2pts behind us aswell! Yes we are in a rich vein of form but that can go like that in this division!
Ashley Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 Great win for us, we need to win against Barnsley and Derby now.

Heskey2011 Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 Just got back and i can honestly sat we were rubbish, seriously couldn't string a pass together, on the plus side Wealo made some great saves and Bamba was a monster, won every 50/50, top player. great result, pleased to grind out a result, but i don't think we had a shot on target (apart from the goal) Yak didn't look interested but the new lad looked tidy, not match fit but still looked good, Mee won a few headers and looked good as well, wing / wellens / abe didn't get into the game imo in :sge: we trust

Yes we are in a rich vein of form but that can go like that in this division! I kind of feared an equaliser but there were times where it felt like it was just going to be our day. When they hit the post and had one cleared off the line it seemed like for them, it would be one of those days where you put everything into it but just don't score, and the other team get lucky. Agree about the Barnsley thing, we should win but nothing is certain in this league.
1964FOX Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 On the way back can't believe we won but about time we played poorly and got something. Yes we did chant at Mattock perhaps a little bit of karma for hitting women. I hope he recovers but I have no sympathy for him

Like many have said it more or less echoed the Reading game last season and if that is the case the true grit is back in this Citeh side along now with nice football.. We just gotta keep it going but anything can happen in this league from a hard gritty win one day to a disappointing loss the next!
shailen Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 We need a win against barnsley as the million other ppl have pointed out. Not going to be easy though, barnsley are a tough nut to crack, but at home and with our squad we should be winning this - but thats not how football works
Toby or not Toby Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 Great result, but made hard work of it! We were never gunna be able to play our passing game as the pitch was one of the worst I've seen!
Heskey2011 Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 Any one got a video link for Kings goal tonight? i missed it, was putting my bovril down
topharry123 Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 great result, don't really care about the performance. i always expect the home team to have a good go. Reminded me of the start of the season when we were dominating games and not getting results but the other way around. 3 points is all that matters, we're on the way up !!
Ilkeston_Fox Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 Well feck me silly! How, I say, HOW did we win that!?!?!? It was a scrappy game to say the very least, but the sheer number of decent chances they had leaves me utterly baffled how they didn't score. Weale played an absolute blinder - the new keeper must be thinking "What the hell have I got to do to take his place in goal!?"
Austin Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 Hope we're not overly confident about Saturday, one game at a time City
Thracian Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 Rarely have I seen a Leicester being quite so consistently pummelled as tonight and yet we earned our reward because of massive defensive resolution and the calm, instant thinking of Andy King. As usual, King made a split-second chance look easy with the instant despatching of yet another shot which did only what was necessary to beat the goalkeeper and hit the target. The rest of the evening all and sundry rained efforts on our goal but either hit the bar, blasted them high or wide, or not quite far enouigh from the brillliant Weale. Only King was deadly. His chance came quite early on but he took it before any defender had time to react. Three points skiiper - and thanks once again. People who say he did nothing else should watch a recording. He did plenty in his usual unnoticed way. He might even have added a second goal when questionably penalised for offside as he broke through the Sheffield defence and home in on their keeper for what might have been another tap in. He had another goalbound piledriver bravely blocked and that on a night when he had major midfield duties and our other main attackers, Yukubu, Dyer and Vassell posed very little threat between them. But the night belonged to Weale with further honourable mentions to Mee and Bamba. Weale was immense. Two or three of his saves were breathtaking. As for Mee, Bamba oh, and Oakley when he came on, they either thwarted attacks themselves or put the home strikers under enough pressure to make them miss from good positions. Finally Sheffield seemed certain to score with a wicked close range thunderbolt but Oakley was on the line to head clear and somehow Sheffield seemed to sense after that that they'd never break through. I really don't know if Sven will usually survive such an onslaught away from home but this was three vital points from a ground where we've seen such misery in recent seasons. The phrase "winning ugly" could have been coined for this game but I'd not go so far as to say we were lucky. Goalkeeper's are employed to save shots and deefenders are organised to prevent em. The work in these areas paid dividends. Sheffield might claim they had stacks of chances and I'd agree. But you deserve nothing if you fail to take em. We took ours. And Kingy deserves a lot more credit than he's getting for doing that. Being in the right place at the right time is a talent - and you don't get fortunate as often as he does without a reason.

Spot on, alittle mention for Vassells assist, bit of crab football assisting, just been watching it on slow-mo (skysportssnews)

Fox1651 Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 Bravo City, great win, couldnt give a shit about the performance away from home just as long as we pick up points. Home games we expect to be entertained now as Leicester are surely the best footballing side in the division on their day? (that means we will prob lose against Barnsley now )
Kitchandro Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 I'm going to be honest, I don't think I'll ever see us play that badly and win again. We won 1-0, but if we had lost 4-1 I couldn't have complained. By my reckoning they had 90% of possession. They misssed a number of sitters, were denied big penalty claims, and were better than us in every department apart from defending and chance conversion. We played hoofball for most of the game and a few players lacked effort. Sven should have made changes a lot earlier than he did. I can't criticise our passing because there wasn't any worth a name. Van Aanholt was very poor, as were Yakubu and Vassell who didn't really put any effort in. Bamba, Mee and Weale stood out (it's no coincidence our best players were in the back 5). For the love of God Sven bring Waggy on earlier. He must have it in for him or something because it was obvious at half time that we needed a change, and Vassell and Yakubu weren't doing their bit. Waggy chased it down and created a chance, and he was only on for 5 minutes. So please Sven bring him on after an hour. The decision to bring Oakley on was vindicated with his clearance off the line, and that summed up our night really. We were lucky, there's no doubt about it. King wasw anonymous after the goal but to be fair the distribution from the back was very poor. Sadly I was having a piss when Mattock got stretchered off, so I missed one of the best moments of the night. Enjoyed giving him stick up until then though. Sheffield United reminded me of us when we went down in 2008, they dominated the game but had no luck. And for that reason I would not be surprised if they went down this season. But we ground out the result and the 3 points is the most important thing
BoneDog Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 Just a shame we had those batterings early in the season as our goal difference is setting us back a bit, if it comes down to it at the end. Yeah we are -4 and the nearest out of all the teams above us are +7 and +8 so we certainly need to finish points above 6th place (if we can manage to pull off a great run and get up there). Joint 6th would be a heartbreaker 'cos I can't see us making up that goal difference on whoever ends up in the top 7. Just realised we got through tonights game without a booking which is pretty impressive in a backs against the wall game like that.

Yes we are in a rich vein of form but that can go like that in this division! I agree As good as we think we are doing, on current form (last 8 games) there are still 7 clubs doing better than us, and Barnsley although 12th in the league and 12th on current form have the ability to turn us over if we don't treat them with the respect they deserve. http://stats.football365.com/dom/ENG/D1/oform.html
Tommeh Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 Where???? Babylon initially, music cut off and it went mental. Ridiculous how many Leicester were in there, then continued out onto the street where Fryatt came out if club opposite and was whisked away in a motor to his usual chant and lots of bonnet bashing. Then it kicked off a bit with a few sheff u which I didn't see but my mate took a whack from some little card.
marbelladave Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 Lets do the timewarp again…. An almost totally Pearsonesque kind of game, overall play was actually pretty poor, some tough last ditch defending after an early strike was so last season. Our midfield had the kind of game that reminds me of why it is in severe need of a shakeup, Vassell and Dyer had to drop so deep to help out that Yakubu was isolated and barely got involved, in short we were pretty much second best throughout. Utd targeted our left flank, looking to upset the new boys, van Aanhalt's pace was critical on occasion getting us out of trouble and all things considered he did ok, not great but ok. Mee on the other hand was massively improved from his last outing, still fluffed about on occasion but was pretty damn good throughout. As usual Bamba looked likely to get things horribly wrong but didn't and Naughton was solid in defence but had fewer chances to get forward than usual. The midfield was not good, Utd played it long and contested the second ball and we were distinctly second best, Abe and surprisingly Wellens were consistently bullied and harrassed, their passing went to pieces and with it went any chance of us controlling the game. King's biggest weakness is his lack of physicality, he rarely contributes in a midfield battle of this type though he was much better in the second half when he played deeper and was very tidy defensively in our box. With hardly any decent ball Vassell and Dyer contributed little going forward, just the occasional threat from Dyer which rarely came to anything, Yakubu's big moment came early when he set up King who displayed the coolness that has been slightly lacking in recent weeks. For the rest of the game Yakubu was somewhat immobile, fair enough he had no support and little in the way of decent ball but I can't help thinking that Vassell would have made a much bigger nuisance of himself than the Yak ever did. The substitutions were by and large for fresh legs, Gallagher confirmed that his improved workrate might actually be permanent and Oakley played the holding role well enough and his save on the line was first class. In many respects this was not a good performance but for once our back 3 were excellent, Weale, Bamba and Mee were our best players and that made a huge difference.
