your jokes keep getting funnier

ive been to more away games this season than you have in the last 5 seasons, your the only joke here .... part-timer

Pretty relevant that, especially as it makes me a joke :trumpet:

You're not going to get any interviews if you're cover letter and CV are ridden with mistakes.

PS. you're*

FFS, help the lad, not diss his written English :facepalm:lol

Well they are. Any company that gets a letter off of him and sees the very thing that he's asking for is misspelt is going to have serious doubts about how much he wants it. The letter will be filed in the circular file that goes under the desk on the floor. Besides, there been plenty of good advice given here, but like most teenagers (I'll even say like when "I" was a teenager) he wants it NOW and seems unwilling to take the quality advice of people who are telling him to play the long game.

I work for a college, and my job is to advise people like you.

Your plan of action should be:

1) Join Apprenticeships.org - put your details on here and you will be emailed details of any electrical apprenticeships going in your area. Don't come up often, but you need to be in it to win it, so join now.

2) Speak to the local colleges that provide apprenticeships - some of them (like mine) hold files of people looking for apprenticeships in various sectors and get in touch with you when one comes in. They talk to employers all the time, so again it's worth a shot

3) Apply for FE courses at colleges NOW! Apply at more than one college because these are popular courses. This is a back up plan, but also, many companies approach colleges to take on their students once they've finished a course. They have a qualification, have stuck at it for a year and also the tutors know them. I lose count of how many students I've had recommended to companies from tutors!! I got someone an interview tomorrow for an apprenticeship in Light Vehicle Maintenance because the tutor gave me a good recommendation

4) Speak to friends and family - The number of apprentices taken on by friends of friends is too numerous to keep count of!

Good luck!! It's tough, but I would take an apprenticeship over a degree ANY DAY OF THE WEEK!!!

PM me if you need any further help or advice.

cheers, ive joined apprenticeships.org but just keep getting told about jobs as a waiter or something, ive finished my level 1 electrical course so will have to send out more letters now that ive got my health and safety and level 1 which i didnt have the last time i sent off.

@DB11

Quite a few would be apprentices have poor literacy when they come to us, and it's through no fault of their own. Some people are just naturally better with their hands, and as such they are neglected by schools. Some who have outstanding practical skills have dyslexia, it's kind of like the body compensates for good practical skills by having lower literacy skills. I am very good at using my brain in my job, but I am hopeless at even fitting a headlight, let alone carrying out a service on my car!

So please, don't disrespect people just because they aren't skilled at something that you have an advantage at - they probably could kick your arse at something else!! Correct people, as I do - recommend spell checks etc but don't take the piss, fella!

What I would say to Ross as a counter arguement is take some thanks in even those comments, perhaps it did get abit out of hand and people took the piss and offended him but he seemed on the defence from the first comment about his spelling. It's advice, take it.

We have an apprentice at our place at the moment and no-one is helping him, respecting him and some are refusing to work and teach him because he just doesn't want to work/learn. In a similar way people are helping him by pointing out his spelling perhaps it was a typo but take the advice, people are helping him, if it's a typo state the comment, don't take offence, and by the way if he takes such offence on such a petty thing he'll have alot to learn on site...

jesus i can spell apprenticeship, i didnt really think it would cause this much fuss.

and yes i do want my apprentership now because i want on site experience, ive completed level 1 and know the basics so whats the point sitting in the class room all the time when i can go out, do the work and paid to do so? just trying to be one step ahead so im not struggling next year when the rest of my class are ...

Ross...

Pick through the posts and there is some decent information. Good luck though, the best way is to just apply, apply, apply to as many as you can. Take some of the tips and make sure you give a good first impression with your CV and Covering letter.

Yeah, there are load of jobs in the Catering/Hospitality industry, very hard to fill believe me!! Make sure your preferences are for Electrical jobs.

Get a local college to look over your CV and get someone to double check your letters (ignore wankers like DB11, you'll probably be earning far more than him in years to come) and just make sure that you are giving yourself every chance.

Oh, and I dunno what your email address is, but make sure it is sensible - we get so many email addresses on CVs like '[email protected]' or '[email protected]' - it doesn't make a great impression on an employer!!

Oh ffs! You might want to do it now, but you can't get what you want a lot of the time. If you don't want to listen to any advice that isn't "here have this number" or whatever then suit yourself. Having a level 2 in college might just make a firm choose you over a person with only a level 1. Just putting it out there.

Oh, I dunno - a friend of mine who was keen to work in the financial sector has the email address [email protected] and she got loads of interviews. She didn't get any actual job offers though. :ermm:

Please tell me this is another attempt at humour?

'Your', not 'you're' (you're is a shortened version of 'You are' and 'You are CV' makes no sense.

Oh and something can be mistake-ridden, but not ridden with mistakes. That will be 'riddled with mistakes'. Just a small point or two, but if you're going to correct someone on English in such a piss taking way, make sure you don't give ammo to others.

Only kidding pal, just keep putting your name our there and i am sure something will turn up. At my school at the moment we have Connexions coming in (this week in fact) trying to get us on apprenticeships. Just spread your name. Suffolk_Fox gave some good advice, take that into consideration.

i have listened to the advice and i know that people wont just give me a number but all i said was that i wanted to be out there working not sitting in a classroom because thats the kind of person i am, sorry for acctually wanting work unlike half of this country scrounging money from the government every two weeks,

besides all you have done is lay into me and pick faults, so why have you even bothered to comment in the first place if you've got nothing to say? you must live a sad lonely life if your idea of fun on a monday night is sit there laying into 16 year olds ahahaha

That's fine - being in a college 4 days a week isn't for everyone. Just don't give up!!

I think you'll find that was DB11 picking faults, not me.

And secondly, don't go off on one about how you want to work instead of scrounging money off the government. I understand that, but the fact that I'm saying is that your future employer would much rather you have a level 2 in the trade than a level 1 because it means he has to do less training. So maybe you will have to sit in a classroom for another year, but if that means getting an apprenticeship then good for you.

i dont know how to do that link thing but these are a couple of things you've said ....

Good English could help you find an apprenticeship though...

You could borrow his dictionary. That would be more useful.

not very constructive to say the least and if thats not picking faults then i dont know what is ...
