B52 Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 Ricardo Naughton Bamba Mee Van Aanholt Waghorn Bruma King Wellens Gallagher Yakubu Subs: Weale, Berner, Abe, Oakley, Dyer, Vassell I hope Sven has a surprise tomorrow. He has tried Ricardo and Oakley with Bruma still on the bench. This is the first game since he got the team together that really matters.
blueredswed Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 It always amazes me how some fans cannot understand the abilities of a pure goalscorer. Players whose main attribute is lethal finishing often get chastized for not putting enough effort in on other part's of the game. Fair enough there are strikers with excellent finishing who also have plenty of other assets but Lineker would often get criticized for goal hanging as would Michael Owen. Who cares if they don't chase after lost causes or dive in on tackles, 4 goals and 3 assists in 6 games is exceptional at this level and his record in the Premiership is very good as well. The sooner our fans realise that Yakubu will score us goals and make oppositions defence drawn out of position for the likes of King and Gallagher to get in to the better, that's all he'll do but it'll win us matches. We have 8 or 9 other players who will do everything Yakubu doesn't do and that's enough. It's no coincidence since we got a goalscorer in, we've not lost. We were murdering teams with possession and chances and not winning due to poor finishing, all it takes is Yakubu 1 oe 2 half chances and we're 1 goal to the good. It's that simple. I read this first, and then another and I can only agree! He is a great player and perhaps we don´t have seen this before in this season? But The YAK and IBRA is the same one chance on target and then
fatmando Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 Draw written all over it imo. Early first half goal and late second half goal.

Captain... Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 Ricardo Naughton Bruma Mee PVABambaKing WellensGallagherYakubu Waghorn would be nice... They way you have lined them up makes it look very narrow and Cardiff would murder us on the flanks, drop Bamba back as 5 3 2, flat 3 across the middle with Wellens in the Centre King and Gallagher buzzing around him, Waghorn dropping deep to help link up play, Naughton and PVA as flying wing backs, and then we soak up the pressure and hit them on the break. The only thing I would disagree with you on personnel is Weale, if we line up like that we will have a lot of players in the centre hopefully closing them down and stopping the long shots, so I would expect Cardiff to attack down our flanks whipping balls in for Bothroyd. I think he would target Ricardo and have the likes of Bellamy and Whittingham sniffing around looking to capitalise on any mistakes. Also I expect us to come under a fair amount of pressure and Ricardo has struggled at times to clear our lines with goal kicks, at 1-1 in the 85th minute I would prefer to see Weale hoof it down the middle than Ricardo trying a 30 yard pass, 3 or 4 of them against Derby went straight to the opposition in the middle of the pitch.

Yea I agree, it's hard to do an exact formation on here without many formatting options. I saw Bamba in a more sweeper role with PVA and Naughton providing a lot of width. Not sure on Weale, I think Ricardo has been fine, he seems to help with a flowing game more. He has made a few mistakes but he's rusty - give him a chance I think he'll be great.
BlueArmy91 Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 Weale Naughton Bamba Mee Van Aanholt Wellens King Gallagher Dyer Vassell Yakubu Subs: Ricardo, Waghorn, Bruma, Abe, Berner, Oakley, Howard Going for a 2-1 win to us with King and Vassell on the scoresheet
BlueArmy91 Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 Van Aanholt was very good against Derby??? Agree that the jury is still out, but again, he's only been here 4 games. I can understand the clamour for Waghorn to star but, much like Vassell, he's not a wide player. I'd keep him on the bench but be inclined to introduce him much much earlier. Weale Naughton Bamba Mee PvA Abe Wellens King Gallagher Yakubu Vassell Subs: Dyer, Waghorn (should get at least 25 minutes), Oakley, Berner, Bruma, Howard, Weale. Who's the second weale?
Captain... Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 Weale Naughton Bamba Mee Van Aanholt Wellens King Gallagher Dyer Vassell Yakubu Subs: Ricardo, Waghorn, Bruma, Abe, Berner, Oakley, Howard Going for a 2-1 win to us with King and Vassell on the scoresheet I can't see Gallagher being played in midfield, we are lacking bite in the middle and Gallagher has many qualities but he is not a ball winner, although he is trying more and more these days, tracking and trying to win the ball back, but he is just not that good at it, that team looks very lightweight, especially with Vassell looking off form and Dyer not exactly setting the world alight in his recent performances as a substitute.
lcfc_jme Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 Would've fvcking loved to have gone to this but travel is absolutely impossible unfortunately. Devastated. Weale in for Ricardo, Abe in for Oakley and Lloyd in for Vassel (if he isn't fit) should be the only changes to the side. Waghorn should remain on the bench and keep being forced to make an impact when he gets on in order to earn a starting place. A defeat wouldn't be a disaster provided we recover straight away. A draw would be a good point, and a win would be an absolutely fvcking gigantic moment in our season. That said, I can see us losing 2 or 3-1 given how we supposedly played in the second half of the Brizzle game and away at Sheff Yoo. Will be interesting, that's for sure.
marbelladave Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 Really can't see Sven changing much for this one, Abe for Oakley perhaps.... Most importantly, we have to play well, if Cardiff play better and beat us, then fair enough I can live with that. I just don't want another non performance like we gave on friday, we'll get murdered if we do and it could really knock us out of our stride...

I think in some respects the performance tomorrow will be almost as important as the result. This is our new look team's biggest test so far, with an even bigger one to come 2 games later, a defeat will not be a disaster as long as we play well, show we are capable of competing with Cardiff and make them work for the win, odds are that if we make the play offs we will more than likely have to face Cardiff at some point if we want to win it, if they overrun us and beat us by 2-3 goals then it will be a disaster if we can dictate the game and get at them, even if we lose we will go into the game against QPR more confident, and like we are capable of beating anyone. We could easily play much better than we did at Derby/Sheff/Bristol and lose to a long shot (if Weale is in goal) or a flapped at cross (Ricardo) and it wouldn't be the end of the world if we can dominate them for large periods of the game. A scrappy backs to the walls draw or even victory like Sheff United, will be fantastic results wise, but will still leave huge question marks over our ability to get out of this division and leave Sven with some tough decisions to make and maybe regretting not getting some midfield cover in in January.
StanSP Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 I don't think I've ever been this nervous and excited for a Leicester match since that fateful day last season. The irony being that it's back to the same place where I felt those same feelings! It's such a pivotal match and I think it is the biggest test that Sven will come across (even bigger than the Forest game in November). That said, though, it's not the end of the world should things not go to plan. I don't think Waghorn should start. We seem to be starting games well as of late, and the same players are being used to start games, especially up front (Vassell, Yak, Gally). Sven shouldn't change that just yet, if it's under his control. Obviously if players aren't fit (Vassell might not be?), then they have to be replaced. If Vassell not being fit is the case, then Dyer should replace him. Waghorn is best as an impact player right now. Saturday would have done him the world of good and he seems to be happy having the challenge of warranting a starting place. In addition, Howard should come on in the second half should things not go to plan in the first half. Some Cardiff fans I know don't like playing against a big man up top cos their defence can't handle them. So Howard can be our plan B option, if you will.

All the above can be true, but the same can be said of dominating the game and losing being worse for us than losing the game by playing turd. With playing dreadfully, we know that there is huge scope for improvement and the chances are we wouldn't play that badly again. Battering them and coming away with nothing to show for it could result in a major dent to team-spirit and morale, and it would be unlikely we'd dominate in the same way again; could end up with us believing that no matter how we play against them, we can't beat them and us developing an inferiority complex. I agree though, it really is our biggest test since Sven arrived, and in fairness if I was offered a point now to keep our unbeaten record in tact and prevent momentum being lost, I'd take it.
Bryn Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 Even if we lose tomorrow, when we stuff Coventry on Saturday we'll still be on 25 points from 30 Good times. Plus, we won't lose tomorrow.

I see your point, but a good performance over 90 minutes, even if we come away with nothing from the match is arguably more important than a scrappy point or 3, I too would take a point now if it came with a good performance. Hopefully the Bristol City game will be a wake up call that we can't stroll around in second gear and expect to win (even though we did win) and we will come out fired up against Cardiff, I would expect any of last years squad to be well up for this game (another nod in favour of Weale over Ricardo and Dyer/Waghorn over Vassell) and hopefully we will just smash them off the park, we have the players to do it, but they have not been playing well enough recently to make me think they will. I don't normally make predictions, but we are more than capable of winning this game but we need the team to play at it's peak, I can't think of a game recently when we did, and I think we have gotten too used to strolling around in second that we may struggle to up the tempo. Oh well we will know more this time tomorrow. Come on the foxes!!!

Oh well we will know more this time tomorrow. Come on the foxes!!! This bit in bold is very much something I'd go with. To go there last season and be literally robbed (first by the officials and then by a moment of stupidity) of a place in the playoff final is something which should, in theory, have everyone in last seasons' squad entirely fired up and ready to settle some scores. I still would favour Lloyd as opposed to Wag, purely for the fact that on his game Lloyd will completely tire their defence out so Wag can come on fresh for 20-odd minutes and give them nightmares / exorcise his own demons of that night. Bamba and Mee are going to have to be completely on their games tomorrow to even give us a chance, and our midfield is going to have to be full of the energy which has eluded it in recent times (Derby 1st half apart) - the reintroduction of Abe, perhaps? As you say, we'll have to wait and see. One thing's for certain, though, it won't be dull and it'll be thoroughly entertaining! Bring it on!
Brown Fox Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 As well as the confidence factor that we have with our recent run the pressure will also be hugely on Cardiff for tomorrow. All of their fans and the media will expect a Cardiff win tomorrow and we could completely kill the party. They are slowly doing the same thing they do every season which is start to drop and we need to get them while their heads are down. That loss to Forest last week has really dented their confidence as was seen in post-match interviews etc. and they are looking to this as a must-win game when all of us Leicester fans would gladly take a draw. Any early goal from us could really really turn the screw. The crowd will be on their backs and we have the quality to do just that! Would take a point tomorrow in an instant but i really think we can snatch a win tomorrow.
Swalker Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 Just an idea for a chant we could sing on Tuesday. This time Cardiff, we've got Erikksonnnnnn This time Cardiff, we've got Eriksonnnnnn
phillthefox Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 well cardiff were all over the scum sat and still lost , they look dodgy at back and yak will run them ragged, hopefully.... i would take a draw 1-1 but hoping to sneak a 2-1 or win 3-2
Edmund Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 Looks like we're up against Ramsey for the second time this season as he's expected to be back from injury. Chopra's still injured for them though. I'd actually stick with Ricardo for this game as Bellamy looked lively against Forest last saturday. He was firing them from distance and if it wasn't for Camp he would've bagged a couple.
Bilbo Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 Gutted I can't go to this because of work, surely it should have made it onto Sky Sports 2 because of the history from last season?
Wymsey Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 Must be one of the most eagerly anticipated matches so far considering how crap we did under Sousa and how brilliantly we are doing under Sven. This is a good test alright.
