Just heard from one mate who is ok thankfully she is pretty shaken up and tired from having to walk a few hours home. Hope my other couple of mates are ok, i was in Greece with one of them when we got news of the last earthquake and it took all night for him to get in touch with family so not expectng immediate news from him.

There's probably going to be over a 100 dead, tragic.

Just seen some of the pics my mate took from outside his house and inside his house doesn't look good

Not good for the people and families who have lost their lives, but looking at the pictures on the news, they are so lucky they are a modern country,if that had been in a developing country i dread to think what the death toll would have been.

Makes you realise when you have had a bad day at work,it really is not that bad.

More in the region of 200 now. Scary.

Terrible to be part of that world right now :(

The main thing is that it was while people were at work and essentially, peak time.

yes its very sad isnt it, i hope the NZ people manage to get back on their feet soon. Best of luck to them

I really dont think you meant it and i am not having a dig but"i hope the NZ people manage to get back on their feet soon" after an earthquake, has sent a few images running through my head that should not be there.

Hope the residents recover quickly from it. :fc:

My wife was worried cos her brother is in Australia. I explained it by saying, "You know they often have earthquakes in Greece and Turkey? Well, have you ever felt one? Cos it's pretty much the same distance."

Anyway, it's all very sad.

I've been told from mates that once you know your family is ok you just go out and help until your exhausted and when she tried to go to sleep after shocks just kept her awake anyway. Also saw her on the news which was good to see she is safe.

A guy I know and a close friend of some of my mates is travelling in nz and was staying in christchurch for a while. He's not replied to anyone on fb since or got in touch. I'm sure he's fine but some people are getting a bit worried.

Hi guys. I'm in Adelaide and it's taken me days to get hold of relatives in Christchurch. They're all safe thankfully. For people who are worried about friends/family etc., please bear in mind that the power is out in the majority of the place ie no phone charging, computers etc. Also, the few phone systems that have power have been overwhelmed by millioms of calls from around the world. Slowly there is power coming back on, but up till now people have had to travel across the City to friends etc to charge phones, check FB and emails. A lot more devastation than September. I hope everyones friends and relatives are all OK.
