Attacks on Neil Lennon

Lennon was baiting the Hearts fans.

The way he conducts himself on the touchline is ridiculous at the best of times, and at the worst is bordering on fucking mental. He HAS to learn to keep a lid on his emotions and stop being a prat.

I was at this game tonight and it was a poisonous atmosphere, for many reasons and sadly both sets of fans were singing the "party" songs, but the notion that Neil Lennon is targeted for being a catholic seems a little bit misguided. O'Neil was not best liked by many groups of fans up here, but did not encounter the same problems. This was a sad end to a disgusting season for football north of the border.

Misguided, and a little obvious for everyone craving a reason to give Rangers a nice bit of criticism.

Lennon's own antics have added so much fuel to this fire it's unreal. The actions of fans up there have been hideous, without question, but Lennon seems like a man with a spade, intent on digging himself a massive hole.

Guessing I've missed some form of sarcasm? My bad if that's the case.

No worries lol

Lennon doesn't help himself but no one should receive death threats because of their choice of work. I think the SFA will have to crack down on this and tighten security at matches.

lol at Lennon getting a couple of boots into his assailant when he was on the ground.

Lennon does give it a bit of mouth but let's be honest, south of the border and not at a club like Celtic I imagine more people would be amused than offended by his antics. I don't see why he should have to 'tone it down' because of some idiotic bigots.

He's a young and rather green manager at his boyhood club that's within a whisker of winning the league in his first full season, of course he's going to show some emotion.

Two people in particular have ignited a higher level of tensions North of the Border this season.

Lennon and Diouff.

Both could start a fight in a phone box, and neither know when to shut up and let this die down for a while.

Having said that the reaction of some to Lennon especially has been way out of proportion.

If he was at a club South of the Border, Lennon would be seen as a kind of souped up version of Warnock.

Add in the whole West of Scotland bigotry thing, and he's heading for trouble.

Attacking him is, of course, bang out of order, but he hasn't been entirely innocent of winding people up - not just Rangers fans, but all opposition fans. And managers. And clubs. And refs. And the SFA.

If he stays and this doesn't get sorted out, I fear that something terrible will happen...

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has signed a new 12-month rolling contract.

Lennon has been on a six-month rolling deal since becoming permanent manager last summer, having been caretaker boss for the end of season 2009/10.

BBC Scotland understands that Lennon will double his wages and earn just under £1m a year.

"I have had ten great years connected to Celtic and I hope to enjoy many more," said Lennon. "I am absolutely delighted to agree this new contract."

In his first full season in charge at Celtic, Lennon won the Scottish Cup but lost out on the Scottish Premier League title to rivals Rangers by a point.

Speaking to the club website, Lennon explained: "I will be doing everything I possibly can to ensure we bring our fans more success.

"I have been speaking to [chief executive] Peter [Lawwell] over the past few weeks and we are both delighted to move forward together. We have sat down, looked at last season and now we look ahead.

Whoever comes into the squad I know they will be joining some very talented players here who share my appetite for success.

Celtic manager

"I know that Peter and the board's vision for the club is the same as mine. We are absolutely together on this, we want to bring success to the club and reward the commitment which our supporters continue to make.

"We want to provide our fans with entertaining, attacking and professional football but ultimately we aim to deliver silverware. Work begins now on striving to bring domestic trophies to Celtic Park and on having some success in Europe.

"We have already begun looking at the squad for next season. Whoever comes into the squad I know they will be joining some very talented players here who share my appetite for success.

"The players have connected with our fans, they know what Celtic means to so many people and I know they will be looking to deliver success for them this coming season.

"Indeed, I would like to record my thanks to our supporters. The backing they gave to me and the team last season was absolutely tremendous. Clearly there was a lot involved in last season and their contribution was immense.

"I said when I was appointed manager that we wanted to reignite Celtic Park and make it the place it should be - one of Europe's finest, most atmospheric football arenas.

"There is no question this happened. There were numerous occasions last year when the fans' unique backing played such a crucial role and I know that we can build on this for next season.

"I know that myself, the board, my management team and all my players will be doing all we can to ensure that our fans have a team they can be proud of."

Good idea? Bad Idea?

Good idea. He shouldn't let the bullies beat him.

Would love him to manage us at some point in the future.

Can't see that happening.

If Neil wins a title, he'll be at Celtic for a decade. If he doesn't, he'll just be branded as a failed manager like John Barnes.
