Issues in Sport that make you sigh

Recommended Posts

With Horse racing not exactly in rude health today's announcement that a group of 5 people including Professional Jockeys and Trainers have been charged with betting irregularities made me sigh.

And then there's Lance Armstrong once again accused of drug taking during the heyday of his career.

Any more?

There are more sports than I can care to name that I've been enamoured with and then disaffected by at somepoint in my life. Sadly football is one of them.

Doping in cycling is and will continue to be prevalent amongst the elite. All the riders say that doping is commonplace. It's bloody obvious he doped himself, and the speculation and accusations are getting quite boring...

I think in cycling as in top level sprinting dug taking is the norm.

But how can that be OK?

ok... brace yourself for this.... its pretty Radical......

How about a rule where the top 20 finishers are mandatory tested for drugs?

I mean... seriously... why isnt this sort of thing obligatory..

its not rocket science..

if ANY sporting governing body had any genuine intrest in eradicating performance enhancing drugs then they would implement stuff like this...

If Lance was a drug user during his prime... why wasnt he tested at least once?

Unless of course the cycling industry benefitted from such a super athelete in in increased popularity, tv veiwings and increased sponsorship....

The athletes are still top athletes and by using doping they're only pushing the boundaries of human limits even further. In many ways, doping is a sign of evolution and in a perverse way it should maybe even be heralded as progress. The reason it's viewed down upon is because it gives some an artificial advantage over others. But then you could argue that some have a natural advantage over others which is beyond the control of the athletes, so why is that fair?

Cyclists are maybe the most thoroughly tested athletes in sport! The list of banned substances borders on the ridiculous. The fact they can now be tested anytime anywhere and have to report their whereabouts several times a day (or risk getting banned) is taking it a bit too far even I'd say. But doping, like drugs will continue to be one step ahead, leading to the science fictional way riders now take it.

As for Lance, he's been tested hundreds of times. I don't know where you got the notion from that he wasn't ever tested...

I think there's a certain type of blood transfusion that cannot yet be detected/detection is unreliable. And it was only as recent as 2000 that EPO testing was used at the Olympics.

sigh............... The Olympics, they lost my interest and credibility in the early 80s... its with great disapointment that i just no longer give a crap.

To be honest, the drugs in sport thing is so ubiquitous that i dont even consider it an issue anymore.

In football when an injured player has to leave the pitch until the game restarts thereby penalising the team against which the foul has been committed by temporarily reducing them to 10 men.

What's that all about?

Good one.

That makes my blood boil.

You've had a foul committed against you, now get off... :ermm:

FIFA. Everything about them. From the corruption thats runs through them to the blatent arrogance of refusing to allow goal line technology. I dislike everything about them with the pinnacle being Sepp Blatter.

Lack of terracing.

New stadiums.

Prawn-sandwich brigades.

Politicians who get involved with football.

Sepp Blatter.

Match-fixing (it happens everywhere, you can't deny it)

On the injured player who has to leave the pitch issue. Teams who are winning waste time by faking injury, a guy who sits near me said they should be off the pitch 5 mins it will soon iron out genuine injury and faking it.

of course, you should definately have to miss a chunk of the match for being injured.

ever rising ticket prices and the fact that it's becoming more apparant the fa, football league and premier league couldn't give a shit about football or the fans does depress me.

the fact that rugby fans can stand and drink ale on the terraces and we cant. does that count??

I reckon it does. Then the rugger buggers turn up in tigers's shirts at the Walkers

You're right, it would be better having empty seats than having someone that supports more than one Leicester sports team. <_<

If you coming to the football dont wear a fooking rugby jersey, it looks pony. My opinion.

Spose they could choose literally anythhing else to wear. I'd still rather have bums on seats though.
