AdamN Posted 24 May 2011 Posted 24 May 2011 Over rated? no Past it? maybe. Hardly had the greatest last few years Neither had Yakubu, until he joined us. For the right amount of money, I'd take Keane in an instant.
Hack Posted 24 May 2011 Posted 24 May 2011 A big thing that people are missing about the yak is that he WANTS to play for US. Great to hear.
dhermon Posted 24 May 2011 Posted 24 May 2011 Front 3 of Keane Yak Kamara would be insane even without Kam throw in Gally with schlupppp off the bench jizz worthy combo right there P.S. Hack you summed up my feelings 110%

Hack you summed up my feelings 110% Thanks. I know fans want nothing but the very best for their team, but sometimes it becomes ridculous when people who are not involved in day to day managment of a team make judgements on such a small sampling of games they have seen or the stats they read and decide that a player is not worthy for their team or their support. I think it is great for fans to have discussion on who they would like etc. but to bag players of the skill and reputation of Robby Keane and say at 30 he is past and should not be considered for Leicester is a joke.
Ashley Posted 24 May 2011 Posted 24 May 2011 As a championship team chasing promotion i'd certainly take him. I think he'd be great in this league. He would have to take a significantly lower wage though. Yakubu didn't so why should Keane? If they can get us out this division which they could then do it. Thais will make there money back in the Premier League they've said there willing to take a hit to get us there. King Power Group
Wdywd Posted 24 May 2011 Posted 24 May 2011 He's completely lost it since he went to Liverpool, before that he was class. I'm not convinced we want to be signing people who have been utter turd for the team that came bottom of the Prem. Appreciate what people are saying about being realistic, but still. Craig Bellamy is about 50 times the player Robbie Keane is and he didn't bang them in left, right and centre.
topharry123 Posted 24 May 2011 Posted 24 May 2011 Granted he's not been the best as of late, but he was playing in a bad team that were up against it every single week. Put him in the championship with a decent team around him and I have no doubts he'd be awesome at this level. When he signed for Celtic, he did a great job. Since then his chances have been limited and when he did play at W Ham they were a very poor side. Him and the Yak could be great if it happened. But has he actually been linked with us or is he just willing to step down to someone?
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 24 May 2011 Posted 24 May 2011 Thanks. Equally though, people have seen him play over the last couple of years and he has looked a poor shadow of his former self. It is a forum where people are entitled to their opinion. Have a look at his record since he went to Liverpool and I can guarantee a startling drop in his stats. Just because he would be dropping down a level it does not mean he would be mustard. When peoples bodies and hunger start to go they very rarely get back to a standard they were at in their prime. I do not think anybody has said he is not worthy, just past it and I agree with those sentiments. I also live and work around Hammers fans, my best mate (unfortunately for him) being one and I can tell you now they think he is shite.

Conscript Fox Posted 24 May 2011 Author Posted 24 May 2011 I think as some on here have pointed out the move to Liverpool not working out has rattled him. However, since then has it been his hunger going or a lack of regular first team football at Spurs due to Harry planning for life without him which has blunted his performances? I think it might just be a lack of regular games as he has maintained his scoring ratio for Ireland at International level and notched against some decent sides in that time. He is only 30, and doesnt have 'lifestyle issues' so should have another 4 seasons at least in him, and if he is in a side regularly he will score, always has and still will I reckon. I think he would be a great signing. He was injured early in his time at West Ham and not match fit while there.
shen Posted 24 May 2011 Posted 24 May 2011 A big thing that people are missing about the yak is that he WANTS to play for US. Not that you'd know that from his interviews or his on pitch enthusiasm
bmt Posted 24 May 2011 Posted 24 May 2011 I linked my arsenal fan friend to foxes talk and now he's signed in as me
dannythefox Posted 24 May 2011 Posted 24 May 2011 Would love to see him at Leicester he would score goals for fun. But notsure about the money he would want.
sdb Posted 24 May 2011 Posted 24 May 2011 Thought it was Liverpool Yeah Liverpool, Cov, Inter, Celtic and West Ham. Oh and Spurs. And the next team he joins.
Stevosevic Posted 24 May 2011 Posted 24 May 2011 No he's not...(with quotes) http://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/premier-league/keane-refuses-to-contemplate-life-outside-the-elite-2655104.html Tuesday May 24 2011 Robbie Keane was in premier company last night when he was part of the official welcoming party for President Obama, and the Ireland skipper has confirmed that he wants to stay in football's elite classes next season. The 30-year-old has dismissed the prospect of dropping to Championship level in search of regular action, and is confident of continuing his career in the Premier League. However, he accepts that he is likely to leave Spurs, observing that the Londoners will look to cash in this summer, considering he has just one year remaining on his contract. Keane, who will lead Ireland out for tonight's Carling Nations Cup tie with Northern Ireland, rejected the suggestion that contact has already been made with newly promoted QPR, stating he doesn't expect any further clarity until July. For now, he is looking ahead to an international window, where the most significant encounter is Saturday week's Euro 2012 qualifier with Macedonia in Skopje. "No, no, not at the moment," said Keane, when directly asked if dropping to a lower level was something he would consider if push came to shove. "Unfortunately, as a player, sometimes your future isn't in your hands. I'm a Tottenham player and who knows what's going to happen? "I'm sure they are going to try and get a bit of money for me. But I want to stay in the Premiership for the next couple of years and then, after that, whatever," added Keane, who didn't rule out the prospect of trying out the United States in the long term. He admitted that he had suffered a season to forget, with the first half spent on the sidelines at Spurs, and the second at West Ham where injury curtailed his contribution. A clause to make his loan move permanent would have been activated if the Hammers had stayed up, but he won't be going there now. Keane did come back for the final weeks of the campaign and missed some gilt-edged chances which might have made a difference. By his own admission, he is still short of full fitness and that's why he is looking forward to the Carling Nations Cup with more relish than most. "I'll definitely benefit from these two games," he stressed. "I probably won't play the full 90 against Northern Ireland. Maybe 45 minutes and then longer on Sunday against Scotland. But I'm looking forward to it. "It's been a frustrating couple of years for me. I went to Celtic, did really well. This year is one that I want to try and forget as much as you can." Never one to admit weakness, Keane said that he remained upbeat despite enduring a difficult time and facing into further uncertainty. "It's one of those things. I can't let it affect me or bother me," he asserted. "I've had it most of my career, so it's something you can't really worry about. Professional "Sometimes, being a professional footballer, you don't have a stable home. You move here, there and everywhere. That's something which has been the case for me. I've only got a couple of years left, so I want to make the most of them. "Obviously, the chances of going somewhere and winning the Premiership are fairly slim for me. So it's about enjoying my football, playing as much as I can, and maybe going to a team where I can help the younger players that are coming through. I'm at that stage," added the Tallaght man, who reiterated that he will keep turning up for Irish duty as long as he feels able for it. Another player in a similar boat this week is Shay Given. After a season marred by injury and exclusion, the Donegal native is desperate to get some games under his belt ahead of the big date in Skopje. Keane reckons Given is the best in the business, and is bemused as to why a club like Arsenal haven't made a concerted move for his services. "They could have bought him a few years ago," he mused. "I still think he's the best 'keeper in the Premiership. "I'm probably being a bit biased because I've worked with Shay and he's a friend, but whoever does buy him will be getting a world-class goalkeeper and a good fella around the dressing room." - Daniel McDonnell Irish Independent
