I am Rod Hull Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 Yes I know that I was talking about 2009 20/20 WC in England which I thought was a really shit tournament and it did put me off cricket a bit because 20/20 should never ever be boring! Most probably because I was upset that after we won the 2007 WC I was expecting big things in 2009 and all of our matches were boring. (I'm an India fan btw ) And yeah he seems like he's developed a lot and turning into one of the best keeper/batsmen in cricket. Do you think you can turn this series around mate ?
Brown Fox Posted 2 August 2011 Posted 2 August 2011 Do you think you can turn this series around mate ? That's a tricky one. If we can get Zaheer, Sehwag and Gahmbir fit and firing again then anything is possible. But England will be on such a high I don't think we'll be able to shoot you down. We have the ability on paper to do anything but for some reason our incredible batting line up is not firing. Without Zaheer our bowling attack seem lost and with Harbhajan not fully fit our bowlers have just been taken to the cleaners. Sreesanth and Sharma are more than capable but we need Zaheer so badly. Gambhir is also a massive loss and so if we can get him fit I will take a bit of confidence from that. We all know what Sehwag can do if he wants to as well. Also, I'm not thoroughly convinced with Raina in tests I'd have personally gone for Kohli. It all depends on our line up for Edgbaston. If we can get Zaheer, Sehwag and Gahmbir fit then I believe we have a great chance. But I'm not sure we will and with the form the England team all round has been in it'll be very hard for us. Also our tail is bloody awful and the England tail have stood up and been counted for, that counts for a lot in test cricket. We rely on out top 6/7 batsmen to get the runs and when they don't we're screwed.

His average in England is significantly lower than his career average and with a seaming/swinging ball I think he'll be susceptible to nicking off. Plus, he wouldn't be match fit and batting in the nets is a totally different ball game. You should promote Harbajan - he's your best batsmen at the minute
Dylan Posted 2 August 2011 Posted 2 August 2011 The thing which annoyed me the most about India was the fact that they just had no fight or spirit, and just gave up.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 2 August 2011 Posted 2 August 2011 Pfft no one cares about who is rated best in the world for Test cricket, ODI's is where it counts
Corky Posted 2 August 2011 Posted 2 August 2011 If Prior got injured, would they go for Kieswetter or Foster ? Kieswetter. It seems as though they want the Test and ODI teams to be as similar as possible. I wouldn't have a major problem with that.
FoxyPV Posted 2 August 2011 Author Posted 2 August 2011 TBF to Harbhajan no spinner has done particularly well so far. It gave me great pleasure to see Swann getting smashed all over Trent Bridge. The English have real strength and depth to their bowling attack and batting which India can't match at the moment and the impetus is all with England. A series whitewash anyone?

Would be nice but 3-1 or 3-0 would be just dandy.. The looks on some of the Indian players faces yesterday was brill. I think they`ve massively underestimated this England squad..

He is capable of tearing teams apart but especially after he's just come back from injury and as you said is proven to struggle in England. We could well struggle again. But all it takes is for Tendulkar, Dravid and Laxman to bat how they can and we could take the game away from you. Tendulkar has looked good so far and now Dravid will be back to number 3 that'll be better. Let's just hope for Edgbaston!
danlcfc4ever Posted 2 August 2011 Posted 2 August 2011 Pfft no one cares about who is rated best in the world for Test cricket, ODI's is where it counts Haha you've got to be joking.. TEST CRICKET!! The original and best.
LCFC1993 Posted 2 August 2011 Posted 2 August 2011 Taylor just got 50 in his first game captaining England Lions. Well done him.

Podge Posted 2 August 2011 Posted 2 August 2011 Can't wait to be at Edgbaston for the first day next Wednesday, hopefully lives up to the standards set so far in this series.
Guest MattP Posted 2 August 2011 Posted 2 August 2011 Last 5 test matches at Edgbaston V India- England have won 4 and there has been one draw, the pitch from what I have heard is going to be full of pace and bounce. Not sure if I had done that to be honest as 2-0 up and with this Indian attack I would have been happy producing a couple of dust bowls. A heatwave this week would help though. I don't think India can get back into the series, even Sehwag you would expect to struggle and he never has been at his best in England. When you have the opposition at 120-8 for you lose by over 300 runs something is seriously wrong with the side. The writing has been on the wall since the Somerset game where they couldnt even get close to bowling them out. Great knock from Titch here, working himself to next in line in that batting line up. Indian cricket is going to have a lot of problems over the next ten years, all there young players have been brought up playing too much T20 and limited overs cricket on flat decks, they wont have to work for thier wickets like you do at the top level in test matches. Same as the batsman, all flat trackers where the bowler can only ball short ball an over and a new ball that doesnt do anywhere as much as a red one, it no co-incedence Mikund, Kohli, Raina all seem to be absolutely clueless when it comes to playing a short delivery. The real problem for them is every country in the world is watching this and seeing a blueprint of how to get out the spine of the Indian side once Laxman, Sachin, Dravid have all retired in the next couple of years.
Corky Posted 2 August 2011 Posted 2 August 2011 If Trott isn't fit for Edgbaston then Taylor may get the call.
marko Posted 2 August 2011 Posted 2 August 2011 If Trott isn't fit for Edgbaston then Taylor may get the call. It's a shoot-out between him and Ravi. His 71* and being captain must put him slightly ahead, especially when Bopara only managed 19.
Dylan Posted 2 August 2011 Posted 2 August 2011 Brilliant knock from James Taylor... hope he gets the call for the 3rd Test, and hope he does well if he does.
Alexikokopops Posted 2 August 2011 Posted 2 August 2011 I don't care how unfit he is, I'm still terrified of Sehwag after this
Guest MattP Posted 2 August 2011 Posted 2 August 2011 I don't care how unfit he is, I'm still terrified of Sehwag after this What a test match that was, remember it like yesterday, Swanns debut and he took Gambhir and Dravid in his first over of test cricket. What an awful bowling attack that was, Harimson in India and still to this day dont know how Paneser ever played for England.... Remember that, had a feeling they might do it after the first session. Whatever fitness he is that was in Chennai, you will never see a score close to that being chased down at Edgbaston.

Brown Fox Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 Just confirmed on sky that Harbhajan and Yuvraj are out for the series. Uh oh.
Podge Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 Can't wait till the first day at Edgbaston for my test cricket virginity to be taken. Shame about Harbhajan and Yuvraj though, always want teams to be at their strongest, would have like to have seen Harbhajan bowl as well.

Enjoy. I've been to Edgbaston a few times and it's a nice ground, although it'll be even better now it's been redeveloped. The atmosphere in the Eric Hollies stand is normally something to behold around 3-4 o'clock, especially if England are on a roll - definitely takes its toll.
