Kingylcfc Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 We need an experienced head at the back, and Sol Campbell could well provide this. Maybe he's after a coaching role as well? similar to the Chris Powell route....having one or two years playing, and then going into the coaching set-up. And Sven is going to what he knows, trust his judgement.
Ashley Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 Past it when he went back to Arsenal proves some people know nothing about football on this board.
Petchy Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 I wouldn't mind this at all; we desperately need someone with experience in that back four and I think Sol would be a good influence both on and off the pitch. Yes, he isn't the fastest player anymore but you can combat that with the left sided CB being a rather pacey one (Bougherra maybe, but Bamba could definitely).
Jon the Hat Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 If his head is in the right place he would be a huge presence in the heart of our defense.
shailen Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 Good signing, experienced played at the highest level, a good role model for the youth, and a good backup!
sdb Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 There's at least half a dozen strikers in this league that'll tear him to shreds. Not for me thanks, Sven.

ibbosuk Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 What is it with Sven and big black men ? Black men tend to be the most dynamic footballers......I think they have more bottle than white players too. (too) 2 V two...coff.
trueblue111 Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 would be a decent signing! was class at arsenal, maybe slightly past it but would do a job we need in the championship, a true leader on the pitch!
sdb Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 Like who exactly?? Like someone with pace. And seeing as you'll ask for names: Maynard Chopra Bellamy Long Gradel Becchio Earnshaw They're not even all that fast, but they'd love to play against big Sol. The guy is shot, has been for 3,4 years now.

What are you basing the he is susceptable to pace arguement on? His age?

MPH Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 I was at the Arsenal - Man City game 15 months ago. He was by far and away the best player on the park. Would still rule this division imo and would be a welcome bit of experience missing in our defence. A player that can organise people around him that we have been sadly lacking for years. Past it when he went back to Arsenal proves some people know nothing about football on this board. are you talking about yourself or someone who actually went to see him play?
MGLCFC Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 Tunchev hasn'y played for nearly 2 years, but people would welcome him back. You need someone with experience at the back, who can organise and lead and Sol Campbell could do both these rolls for a season

You need someone with experience at the back, who can organise and lead and Sol Campbell could do both these rolls for a season If Campbell came here and was happy to sit on the bench, sometimes not be in the squad, and occasionally start then I'd be happy. I just don't see that being the case.
sdb Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 He's been slow for years. Jesus, that is a fact. Anyone who debates that is just looking for an argument.

I wasn't liking the idea myself.
buzzy Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 Have you ever thought Hobbs might not won't to be here? that might be the case but if sven thinks campbell is better than he his a fool. no pace and injury prone and we would have to pay high wages for a shit player.,
MGLCFC Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 I still say Campbell would be a decent addition - why he could add that bit experience we are lacking. Away from home last year we were very naive bcause we had no leader or organiser at the back - Campbell could do this job with ease. Brown lacked pace, but our defence generally looked solid when he played.
80footgiraffe Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 is he out of contract? for free? absolutely, could do a good year or two before retirement
