It's a bit of a myth about Donald not being a big hitter, this year he's added a good 15-20 yards on to his length from the tee and was up there with Westwood at Wentworth and was smashing it past Poulter in the Matchplay. I don't know whether it's his new driver he's using or whether he's beefed up but either way his supposed lack of distance shouldn't come in to question this week.

It'll be his mentality, he's a battler but he's also got a monkey on his back when it comes to US Opens as he hasn't faired well in recent years.

McIlroy to be leading after the 1st round? 25/1

£125 better off, right now to rinse it all on Ascot today.

:appl:

If he continues to play like he did yesterday, I can't see anyone being within at least 5 shots of him come Sunday. Made the course look stupidly easy. Got to think his Masters experience will be in the back of his mind though, and even if not, people will constantly be reminding him about it. Not sure if it would be better for him to be a couple of shots behind going into a final round, and get a win that way.

25-1 were ridiculous odds, considering McIlroy had been 1st round leader in 2 of the previous 3 majors.

Stll a quality round from him though. Shame he'll probably spoil it by choking at some stage over the weekend..:(

Would be an absolute dream to see Garcia and McIlroy in the final pairing on Sunday going toe to toe for the win.

My tip Kevin Na had a hack yesterday.

I'm re-investing some of my winnings in Snedeker, Ryan Palmer and Garcia.

Magnificent day at the US Open yesterday

I dont think i can ever remember (well not in my lifetime) a bogey free round in a US Open, and to shoot 65, JESUS that was some going from Rory.

I tipped Brandt Snedeker in an earlier post. He had a solid round yesterday and his game really seems to come alive in the majors. I dont expect him to go away any time soon.

Henrik Stenson seems to have found a bit of form from somewhere. a nice 70, with 3 consecutive birdies on 15, 16 and 17 were nice, as was G Mac's solid opening round

Absolutely sick golf from Pob. Unreal scenes.

Hat's off to Robert Rock as well. Get's to America at 3am on Thursday morning and then posts a 1 under knock yesterday and is level after 6 holes today having barely any sleep and no practice round. What a lad.

Sergio still in the mixer too.

Rors to lose now i'd say.

Would be very Greg Norman esq.

All my guys are still doing poor and wont make the projected cut except Brian Gay

Breathtaking stuff from Rory. Absolutely outrageous.

Can be rather lucky with his shots sometimes. I hope he carries on in this form. He deserves to win.

I dont know why, but something is telling me that the chasing pack will start to reel rors in today.

Yang was fighting hard yesterday and having stared down Tiger in the past, he wont be intimidated. I keep banging the Snedeker drum, hell come out of the pack today, hes very streaky and he can flat out play

I think if you offered McIlroy a 73, hed take it right now.

God knows what the USGA are thinking, their showpiece tournament where level par is a take it and run score........we had McIlroy get to -13 at one point and a host of players shooting sub 70s rounds. Think we might see one or two tasty pins today.

Rory may drop shots as he did in the last major, he needs to just keep doing what he is doing and not look at the scoreboard and keep attacking the hole.

Similar situation to the Masters, you can't see anyone but Rory winning. No doubt they'll toughen the course up a lot though, which may benefit him even more as he's the only person who won't need to attack the pins, everyone else needs to play aggressively to have any chance of catching him. Level par for the round and he'll win comfortably.

Day would need to shoot another great round like he did and Rory to drop shots

What a sensational performance by McIlroy.

Out of this world. I cannot ever remember seeing someone play this consistently well on such a big stage. Awesome. This will be the first of many, that's for sure.
