Heavy moderation

Nobody is perfect, every mod is only human (except Davie G, he's part machine) and they have their good days and bad days.

From the outside looking in it probably looks great to be a mod, being able to ban people, move posts etc. It's great for all of 5 minutes, and then you realise how much shit there is you need to deal with.

If people want to ask why something was moved/deleted then ask away... but do it at the time not 6 months down the line.

It's not, and I never said it was!

As far as I'm concerned I addressed something that I thought could be approached in a different way, but have got shot down by those who think that the current system is obviously the best for this forum. I gave up trying to argue against it really, because it's not worth it when people seem to take it a bit too personal when it was just a generalised point. After all, I thought this was a User Feedback section? And this is my feedback.

Perhaps you should change your username to Tetchy. Just saying.

I blame AOWW, she should be immediately removed as a Mod... and any goods she may have (like Real Madrid tickets for example) should be givent to...ummm... me :)

I think nearly all the mods/admins are doing a great job, y'know, doin' their merging and whatever. Saying that, there's one in particular that comes across as a right jobsworth - and it's blatantly obvious when they're online because of the sudden amount of needless activity...:whistle:

Probably time to re-initiate the 'Webbo for Mod' campaign too. Sensible guy who doesn't break the rules, and would hopefully be fair in his interventions. And if you were there to see his reaction at the final whistle of the Portsmouth home game this year, you'll know he's got PASSION. lol

What did I do?

Turned around and started banging your programme on your chair for about 10 seconds lol (Well it was actually maybe two or three times).

It was actually pretty funny, but also endearing. :trumpet:

Feedback is welcome, but if we are to action things to make the site better for everyone then we need specifics. If something vanishes and you want to know why, just ask. I can only speak for myself but I don't go around randomly deleting things for the sake of it, there is always a reason.

I like the title, what an oxymoron

Do you even know what an Oxymoron is? lol

There is nothing contradictory in the title. 'Moderation' is the task and 'Heavy' is an adverb to say how the task is carried out... the only way it would be an oxymoron is if you isolated the word Moderate from Moderation, but then that's a different term altogether. ;)

It was a lighthearted observation, but seeing as we're being touchy and condescending -

Heavy. adj.

Of great intensity: heavy activity; heavy fighting.

mod·er·a·tion Noun.

The action of making something less extreme, intense, or violent.

Moderation is most certainly a noun (moderate would itself be an adjective) and as such heavy becomes an adjective in this context, not an adverb as you suggest.

So that you don't make yourself look silly in future, an example of an adverb would be 'moderate heavily', but 'heavy moderation' certainly qualifies as the most common type of oxymoron being that it has the adjective-noun relationship.

I believe this may also be an inadvertant oxymoron, but i'll leave you to establish that while you're off doing your research...

And sorry Petchy but when you've been around a while putting up with the standard of posting by some on here, one becomes grateful, respectful and somewhat pleased with moderation on here. I think that mostly stuff is moved rather than deleted and when topics are locked it's because historically they have invoked silliness of extremist views or are just plain silly or already are being discussed elsewhere in more depth and should be locked.

I have rarely been disappointed with mods on here and when I have put arguments to them which are constructive and based on examples they have responded swiftly and decisively - I suggest you do the same. I find that often a PM works best rather than generic public criticism without specifics veiled as feedback - which is a bit thin mate.

On the plus side Petchy, this is not a dig - I think you're an alright poster for the record,

N.

The fact that you got 4 +rep for an incorrect post is beyond me... welcome to Foxes Talk.

Cheers N, this was just an issue that crossed my mind but everyone seems to have jumped on the 'disagree bandwagon'. Sometimes you feel like you can't have a differed opinion on this forum ;) hah.

Wrong colour. Nice try though.

Feel free to carry on the game of One-upmanship but I'm finding it a little petty now.

you might be accused of tautology for that , and that's an offence likely to incur a ban :D

ps

i'm not sure if it is tautology or not , just trying to lighten the mood :);)

I'm contemplating when to lock this thread.

Haha, Don't worry I'm not going to pick you up on that :P

Yeah feel free, I think we've established from this thread just what the overall opinion is on this forum.

Take the Kasper Schmeichel thread for example:

One thing that I notice again whilst browsing through this thread - too many people can't be arsed doing the same, instead post the same newspaper articles and internet links repeatedly.

I'm not too happy about this.
