davieG Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 Take the Kasper Schmeichel thread for example: One thing that I notice again whilst browsing through this thread - too many people can't be arsed doing the same, instead post the same newspaper articles and internet links repeatedly. I'm not too happy about this. I think it's understandable in that topic 27 pages and 535 replies is a lot to plough through to check for originality and the search doesn't help because it's hard to find a unique word or phrase made worse if you've not been viewing it regularly with the added bonus of it being full of crap irrelevant posts, it's much more noticeable and less justifiable in the shorter topics where it's much easier to check the content.

Zingari Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 How about they look at the date stamped on the news article they are posting... some of it was over a day old!! gosh do they really ? , that's like ancient history bro
Babylon Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 gosh do they really ? , that's like ancient history bro A few years ago i'd agree, but everything is on here within seconds now days. If it's some obscure article then fine, but a bbc/sky article... do people really think they are the only ones to see it?
Houdini Logic Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 How about they look at the date stamped on the news article they are posting... some of it was over a day old!! Problem is that only works when you're looking for breaking news. Take something like signing Peltier - you'd expect people to be digging up old articles from all over the place and you can;t exactly say to them not to post if it's over a day old. Ideally you want some sort of unique validation on anything starting with www... (even then it probably wouldn't work) Grin and bear it I say
davieG Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 How about they look at the date stamped on the news article they are posting... some of it was over a day old!! You can get 50 or more posts in a topic in that time, I posted a news article in there, I started to look back to see if it had already been posted but after ready 20 odd posts of my clubs bigger than yours I gave up and posted it anyway. The other problem is that the news is not always posted on the linked sites at the same time sometimes the same story can be given breaking news on a site a couple of days after it's been posted elsewhere, now if you're a casual poster or someone that doesn't want to read through loads of pointless post what can you do? Well of course you could just forget it but if you want to be an active contributor you'd post it like I did and risk the Wrath of Babylon
Babylon Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 post it like I did and risk the Wrath of Babylon You're playing with fire my friend. Someone posting an old story doesn't piss me off as such, someone like going around every single thread (like we had today) posting out of date news stories does. Once, ok it's a mistake, twice, ok you're a bit lazy. 5 times, you're a f'ing idiot.
Finnegan Posted 22 June 2011 Posted 22 June 2011 Things were way better when mods shamelessly abused their powers to make dickheads look like dickheads. (Pre-emptive "Fuck off the edit button, Alex / AoWW!")

The People's Hero Posted 22 June 2011 Posted 22 June 2011 To be honest, as a mod/admin, you can never really win. I know for a fact a lot goes on behind the scenes to keep the place reasonably sort of clean and tidy and free from too much of the dross. Dross is of course a subjective thing though, one man's junk is another man's treasure and all that. I'll bet I've had more deleted than most and I thought it was all hilarious, essential stuff at the time. I do expect it was probably more like offensive and incendiary. Still, that's me.

Careful, he's not the mayor any more. Doesn't need the legal team now, he can dig that bat back out.
MC Prussian Posted 22 June 2011 Posted 22 June 2011 Unbeknownst to the general public, the FT Mod Squad has held secret meetings and will be back for the start of the new season - stronger and meaner than ever!!! We're implementing a new punishment mode - electrical shocks dispersed online. We'll check IPs and send some of our voluntary enforcement team straight to the respective abusive poster's home - including Ade Akinbiyi, Dennis Wise and Robbie Savage (now that's torture!!!). We'll also make any wrongdoer's Facebook profile public & show their mums their online download history. Yes, it's a new dawn!!! I feel liberated, ready to rumble!!!

To find out how many posts you've had deleted compare the post count that appears underneath your name everytime you post, with the post count that appears on the left hand side when you go to your profile. Post count that appears when you post (12,111) - Profile post count (11,591) = 520 deleted posts for me To your 579 deleted

DB11 Posted 24 June 2011 Posted 24 June 2011 Hmmm, by your calculation I've never had a thing deleted and have, in fact, miraculously gained 209 posts from somewhere. Yeah... so that might have blown my theory out of the water, or hopefully it's just an anomaly

Alexikokopops Posted 24 June 2011 Posted 24 June 2011 Hmmm, by your calculation I've never had a thing deleted and have, in fact, miraculously gained 209 posts from somewhere. I have the same issue. I was wondering if it was something do do with our posts in the supersecretmoderatorforum
