Babylon Posted 30 June 2011 Posted 30 June 2011 Is the 'Blue Army' website caput now? Seems like it, probably cut backs. Should be on the normal mercury site around 9.30 / 10.00 as usual though. Just to clarify I did mean physical board outside a news agents, not an internet board.

There was a stupid one the other day though - 'City sign duo in double swoop' or something. How many people do you normally sign in a double swoop? A tedious pedant as well as a crumbling anachronism, truly I am on a roll
Danny the Fox 95 Posted 30 June 2011 Posted 30 June 2011 Not sure on St Ledger! Don't really want him would much prefer Mee or Mills.

So you go in to work thinking city have signed more players in a 'duo in double swoop'.

Hack Posted 30 June 2011 Posted 30 June 2011 Not sure on St Ledger! Don't really want him would much prefer Mee or Mills. Who says getting SSL doesn't mean getting Mee? I doubt we get Mills. A CB grouping of Bamba, St Ledger and Mee and maybe Tunchev would be outstanding. Add to that the posibility of Vitor back as well and you have a potential Premier league group of Centre Backs.

I think we're building a very strong Championship side which, if we get promoted, will again be transformed. Mills is the only guaranteed potential Prem defender that we've been linked with imo, and that's looking unlikely.
Liamlcfc1 Posted 30 June 2011 Posted 30 June 2011 http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/City-agree-fee-Irish-star/story-12855185-detail/story.html Leicester City could be set for a double defender swoop after agreeing a fee with Preston North End for Sean St Ledger and joining the battle for Reading captain Matt Mills. The Mercury understands a £1.2million offer has been agreed with Preston for Republic of Ireland centre-back St Ledger. City are also going head-to-head in a fight with Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers for Mills. And they are also understood to be weighing a possible move for Newcastle United winger Wayne Routledge. St Ledger's representatives will now open talks with City over personal terms and no problems are expected. The 26-year-old could soon become City's fourth summer signing. However, there is still some way to go in City's pursuit of Mills, below. The Leicester-born 24-year-old centre-back has a year left on his Reading contract but looks certain to leave this summer. Wolves have had one offer rejected so far, and it has been reported that the Royals are asking for £4m for their influential captain. Wolves and Reading are said to be some way apart in their valuation, which has opened a door for City. Mills was a player who was on City boss Sven-Goran Eriksson's wish-list earlier this summer. City have now entered the chase and have spoken to Reading, and could meet the Royals' asking price to prise Mills away. Should they have a bid accepted, City are reported to be ready to offer Mills £25,000 a week to turn his back on the possibility of Premier League football with Wolves for another season in the Championship. Reading boss Brian McDermott met with Mills yesterday, hoping to persuade his captain that he is better off staying in Berkshire. "I spoke to Matt about 10 days ago and I told him how important I thought he was to this club in his role as captain," said McDermott. "I'm hopeful Matt will stay as I am with all of our players." Meanwhile, Routledge is highly sought after, with Queens Park Rangers, West Ham United and Birmingham City all said to be interested in the 26-year-old winger. Routledge has experienced promotion from the Championship three times, with Crystal Palace, Newcastle and with QPR last season. Blues' new boss Chris Hughton is said to be waiting to swoop after Routledge's proposed permanent switch to Loftus Road stalled, but City are also poised and it is understood the player would welcome a move to the Walkers Stadium.

Mills is the only guaranteed potential Prem defender that we've been linked with imo, and that's looking unlikely. I appriciate your opinion. But, It was reported earlier in the Month that 3 Premier Leauge sides made enquiries about Bamba. Figues in the order of 2.5mil were mentioned. As well as lique1 french sides. Mee is highly regarded by Man City and was/is consided a future 1st team player. SSL is a well regarded Irrish international playing in front of established Premier league players. As we have seen in the past Vitor is a player of better class than the average CCC defender. I didn't say a top 10 premier league Defence. But I think these guys could hold there own against defences of Wolves, Wigan, WBA etc.
Stevosevic Posted 30 June 2011 Posted 30 June 2011 Can't see SSL going through today though if a fee has only been agreed.
Ric Flair Posted 30 June 2011 Posted 30 June 2011 Can't see SSL going through today though if a fee has only been agreed. Maybe things have been done in reverse. Already agreed wages and now just the medical to do after we finally agreed a fee with them.
lcfcliam Posted 30 June 2011 Posted 30 June 2011 Mills is Leicester born...gives us a chance. He was born in Swindon?

So you go in to work thinking city have signed more players in a 'duo in double swoop'. They've got their house in order now, but the one round the corner from me would put the same board out for literally months on end, for no apparent reason. 'City hope to sign Waghorn' for about three months during his loan spell, very helpful. You missed a full stop. Every time, Number 6, every time. A crumbling anachronism, a tedious pedant AND a grammar rebel. I don't care if it's technically wrong, all my posts are finely honed artistic statements that are intended to hang in the ether for all eternity
Stevosevic Posted 30 June 2011 Posted 30 June 2011 Maybe things have been done in reverse. Already agreed wages and now just the medical to do after we finally agreed a fee with them. Hopefully, my opinion on SSL has changed and think he would be a good player for us. If we can get Mills in as well, it would send a serious message to the rest of the division. Does anyone know if Ipswich have actually had a bid accepted?

What i'd say is that they'll all currently CCC level. Vitor could improve sufficiently, although my inclination would be perhaps not (i expect most would disagree with me). Bamba, I think most would agree, would get 'found out' in the prem. SSL has spent his career in the 'lower leagues' and would have been snapped up by now were he Prem standard. Mee, solid CCC player for me, no more. But again, that's persoanl opinion and i'm sure more people would side with you on that one!

Saxondale Posted 30 June 2011 Posted 30 June 2011 Does anybody remember that hilarious programme on Sky a few years ago where Ron Atkinson went in as a 'troubleshooter' to help out Peterborough United? At the time, St Ledger was at Peterborough and he was their young star. He was always throwing training ground tantrums from memory. Hope he's grown up a bit.
