Absolute bollocks. What about Norwich last season? I'm sure there are plenty of other examples but i'm too tired (and lazy) to research.

Saints will make the Play Offs this season. Think Brighton will do pretty well too.

Umm....... think you maybe forgetting another team that made the playoffs after promotion from league 1... :scarf::whistle:

So far being the key words. Sides promoted always have the 'honeymoon' period after the excitement of promotion last season. Itrs a long season and Southampton will be fighting relegation come the end of season. History says so.

Oh yeah, I remember us fighting relegation the season we came up from the 3rd tier. I remember that penalty shoot out in Cardiff. That was relegation-related, wasn't it? I feel sorry for poor old Norwich as well, who came up to the NPC this time last year, and then they got relegated to the Premier League.

I think A.L.F would be worth the gamble. As mentioned above, plenty of players made the step up from lower leagues. Give him the service an I'm confident he'd manage 10-15 goals. Would not like to pay over the odds maybe 1M - 1.75M.

That'd be more of a desperation move, wouldn't it?

Besides, his heading abilities aren't really the best. He's better at dribbling than Messi, though.

So maybe our new offensive midfielder?

He's available for 500-750k

I think we should let a team like Cov/Grimsby/Swindon pick him up, Shlupp has allready proved he's better

lol how the hell has Schlupp proved he is better? Schlupp scored one hat trick against a bad side. In the same game Le Fondre had an average performance against a side that beat them 4-1. Schlupp had a very average first game in the championship, Le Fondre has a record of almost 1 in 2 in his career and scored over 20 3 seasons in a row. Schlupp has not proved he's better than anyone yet sorry but one good game does not do that. Come back with that comment at the end of the season if he has had a break out year. Right now he's just a kid who had one good game who has great potential.

Riiiiiight

It's just the fact he's younger, proved he could do the biz in League1, scored 3 where Fondre scored 0 and has a better name.

Dnt need Fondre

Look I'm not sure whether we should attempt to buy Le Fondre or not. There are many strikers who have come from lower league football and are doing well (Lambert at Soton came from Bristol Rovers, Holt and Jackson both at Norwich came from Shrewsbury and Gillingham respectively, Danny Graham at Watford last season, now in the Prem, came from Carlisle). However, it is ridiculous to say Schlupp scored 3 and Le Fondre 0. Had Le Fondre started up front for Leicester and Schlupp up front for Rotherham - I think the outcomes may have been reversed. Schlupp had plenty of good service all night and yes he took his three goals well, Le Fondre did well in the first half, set up their goal. Second half he hardly got a touch of the ball.

lol he's 18 compared to 24 (not exactly old for a striker now is it), He scored three in ONE game when Le Fondre scored none. Le Fondre was playing in a far inferior team. Bentley scored a hat trick for Blackburn a few years ago and Rooney got none; does that make Bentley a better striker as he scored more goals in the one game they went head to head!? No it means he has a better game than him that's all. Schlupp has 9 goals in his CAREER, Le Fondre has 120. While there's no doubt at all that Schlupp is a very exciting prospect and could turn into a great player he is not even slightly proven at any level yet. You cannot be a proven player after 12 professional games in your career regardless of what he has done to date. Le Fondre has what we need right now, someone that can find the back of the net. We cannot rely on Schlupp to get us the goals we need as he will not play every game. He is young and too inexperienced and needs to come on slowly but surely. Le Fondre would be a player that has good experience, a proven goalscoring record and the ability to score us goals. He could easily complement someone like Nugent and IMO is worth a risk for under a million. But seriously, comparisons to Schlupp are a complete waste of time now. He MIGHT get there and probably will. But now he's unproven and we can't put that much pressure on an 18 year old kid who has only ever played 12 games at senior level.

Completely agree with everything here!

You can write as many essays as you want pal, we won't go in for him now.

The thing is, there were rumours of Schlupp out on loan, and Le Fonza in. And after the game it all seemed to die.

Schlupp proved his point/value and Fondre didn't

The point i'm trying to make is that firstly he's proven (albeight in lower leagues) and secondly Schlupp cannot be compared to him at this stage; it's too soon. If people want to base their views on one game then so be it but i'm not going to jump on the bandwagon yet because of one good game against a much lower opposition. You're right it seems to have died down, I just personally hope it picks back up.

According to reports, Rotherham United have rejected a cash plus player offer from Coventry City for striker Adam Le Fondre.

If they are interested why are we waiting ? He is BETTER than our out of form lot. And would be a real bargain in cost, Loan out Steve & Waggy :scarf:

If under a million, then yes as a squad player. Much rather him than Waghorn for instance.

I know it's legaue 2, but 20+ for 3 seasons running? That's not bad.

Prob take around 500k. Maybe a bit more. Don't think he's the answer too all our striking problems, but think could be a good option, would rather sign too new strikers than one, to take the pressure off one signing.

The Yak and Le Fondre please Sven plus maybe an unknown Scandanavian target man, there must be one knocking around. Ogh yeh and a Jimmy Kebe or alike.

I think I've changed my mind on this one. I really don't think we should expect him to be a first choice striker, but we're so thin on the ground up front, maybe, at the right price, he'd make a good back up.

He has got to be better than Waghorn. Looks like Howard's on his way (no pun intended). Kermorgant's transfer listed. Schlupp is too young to be expected to play every match. Gallagher isn't on form, and isn't really an out-and-out striker. That leaves Nugent and Vassell. As soon as one is injured or suspended, we'll be desperate up front.

Worth a punt as a reserve, but if we get him in, I'd still hope we get someone else better as well.

To me a goalscorer is a goalscorer and Le Fondre has proven to be a great goal scorer.

While he may have to improve in other areas, I would think his drive to succeed and improve would make up for that. There have been many examples in recent times when players have come up from non/lower leagues and succeeded.

We're not looking for back up, we're looking for an instant solution. I'm happy with our back up at the moment. I haven't seen much of him, just know he has scored for fun in the lower leagues. If he could cut it at this level I would be happy with him, but we need someone who is a proven goalscorer in higher leagues, and certainly not back up.

We need to gamble on this sort of player, will be determined to prove that he can do it at a higher level. Look at Norwich last season and Simeon Jackson and Grant Holt, two very good players who proved themselves at their respected clubs and had points to prove. A player with a point to prove is a very dangerous player, for 500k would be a snip and if it didnt work out im sure Derby would want him  .

Lee tomlin, George Boyd, Craig Mackail Smith are all very good players and all came from lower levels than this guy. Think, if he has been getting 20 goals a season with league 2 creativity then maybe he can get 10 - 15 goals for us. He will work tirelessly, and after todays performance it appears that sven is after work rate something that mr Yakubu didnt offer im afraid. I would have much prefered today to have bought this guy on for nugent rather than gallagher.

Get it done Svensational! - He scored again today!

You didn't read my post. Read it before you reply to it. You're trying to argue with someone who agrees with you.
