MC Prussian Posted 14 August 2011 Posted 14 August 2011 But Tony posts a thread like this at the start of every season, the only difference this year being that he had the grace to wait until after a defeat that he actually witnessed. Are you telling me he's gotten smarter over the course of one year?
sphericalfox Posted 14 August 2011 Posted 14 August 2011 I said after Sven's clutch of loan signings that we should have started the rebuilding last season, but everyone seemed happy with a load of loan players even though it meant a whole new team at the time & then a whole new team again this summer. signing a few last year and cementing with a few key additions in the summer, not only looks wise in hindsight, but a few said it at the time, but were shouted down as being anti-sven for some reason. Also, that's a relevant point, Dyer offers something no one else does and therefore is a must for the bench IMO, his introduction to the play is one of the few ways we can change how we play. King & Gally are two of our most naturally talented players, not seeing them in the startying line-up especially when their 'replacements' are so unblanced & so far ineffective is sad Which transfer window were you planning to utilise for this team building exercise? The notorious January transfer window?
Thracian Posted 14 August 2011 Author Posted 14 August 2011 On the face of it, this may have looked a good post, but sorry, Thracian, to me it smacks of "I told you so", self opinionated clap- trap. I really do respect you as a poster, and most of the time I tend to agree with you. Strange comment that given that I've hardly commented on any of our signings over the summer. Yes, some of our present shortcomings have been apparent for ages but the evidence that they don't seem to have been addressed has shocked me as much as anyone else. I really did expect us to sign a striker, a winger, two attack-minded full-backs, people with pace and people with better movement off the ball.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 14 August 2011 Posted 14 August 2011 I, for one, disagree. This is a very competative league so I would be very glad for every victory. But the top ten in this league can all win automatic. The posters who are deluded are those thinking we should get automatic because we have invested sooooooo much. Thoose posters are not willing to let the team gel and are probably anti-Sven from his english manager days and bought every little shit pressed in the crappy newspapers. Aaaaaarrrgghhh, Sven doesn't shout at the players. What the f**k. The players aren't capable of thinking by themselves, shout Sven, get into the technical box, the other managers does that........ This is a tough league so I'm glad for every point we get but I don't take anything for granted. We can win against everyone but also lose against everyone... There is of course an argument that if you spend so much in comparison to your fellow competition, that is the least you should expect. After all, this is what the owners are after! I personally don't want to make a judgement without seeing a lot more from the team, but I am surprised at some of the team selection / acquisitions / lack of width, balance or options to do this, early on.

But if someone use that as an argument you have too look at the spending over years and teams gelling over years. . Last year we spent the money on loans so that doesn't count and this year we have got a lot of players but only Mills is "over the top". The rest is good business and needed as we had a thin squad. Remember we only had players like Neilson, Howard, Moreno and so on as backup last year.... But the team needs to play and get used to rotation.
brockmyster Posted 14 August 2011 Posted 14 August 2011 Two games in and already stupid posts like this god help this site if we lose on wednesday
l444ry Posted 14 August 2011 Posted 14 August 2011 Two games in and already stupid posts like this god help this site if we lose on wednesday If we lose on Wednesday Thracian will be vindicated and people might read his other points instead of getting hung up about the timing of it!!
brockmyster Posted 14 August 2011 Posted 14 August 2011 If we lose on Wednesday Thracian will be vindicated and people might read his other points instead of getting hung up about the timing of it!! Ive read the other points and to start with using league positions is pointless it means nothing now. Secondly bemoaning the choice of mills as captain, a man who lead the play off finalists, give the team a chance to gel theyve played 2 league games we have only just begun the season it will take time for the squad to get working together people just need patience.
deep blue Posted 14 August 2011 Posted 14 August 2011 Well, we appear to have learnt nothing from our home defeat to Reading last season. We were just as vulnerable to the speed of Kebe & co - no apparent plan to counter it. I found that disappointing. I was pleasantly surprised to see Schlupp included, but astonished to see how he was frozen out of the game. Countless opportunities to give the ball to his feet when he had 2 yards of space, or to flight a diagonal ball over for him to run onto, were ignored. He still did OK, but has quite a learning curve. I think King and Gallagher have to be included with our passing style. They are the neatest, quickest passers. Fernandes is also a must as the defensive midfielder; he has nous and the ability to drive the other players on.
Thracian Posted 14 August 2011 Author Posted 14 August 2011 If we lose on Wednesday Thracian will be vindicated and people might read his other points instead of getting hung up about the timing of it!! Thanks 'l444ry' but I'll feel happier and more vindicated if we change our approach, make some chances, have some shots and win with some style.
MC Prussian Posted 14 August 2011 Posted 14 August 2011 I feel there's even more pressure on the lads, now that Thracian expects a "win with style". We're doomed.
accessory Posted 14 August 2011 Posted 14 August 2011 Thanks 'l444ry' but I'll feel happier and more vindicated if we change our approach, make some chances, have some shots and win with some style. Or if King is restored to the starting 11...
Thracian Posted 14 August 2011 Author Posted 14 August 2011 Or if King is restored to the starting 11... I thought Kingy was doing the adverts now!
The Doctor Posted 14 August 2011 Posted 14 August 2011 ****ing hell. like most others I stopped reading after the comparison of league positions after 2 games. EIGHT of yesterdays starting line-up were experiencing their first home game for us and had played less than 5 competitive games for us, only TWO of the starting line up had been here for longer than 8 months - if you were expecting them to click instantly then you have got to be one of the most deluded posters even to contribute to these boards.

Nobody in their right mind expected them to 'click instantly'. However I do not think it is 'deluded' to expect them to at least try and play in a different, more positive manner than we have seen for most of the last two seasons. Different players, different season, same shit. Come on Al, you know better than this.....
Langston Posted 15 August 2011 Posted 15 August 2011 The excuse of players not 'gelling' is tired and clichéd. They're together training virtually everyday and have had over a month to get to know each other and bond extensively. Granted playing in a competitive situation is a different kettle of fish, but as 'marbelladave' has said, the least you'd expect, given the players on show, is a more attack minded, positive approach to games. I'm confident, given the right formation, that we can start to create chances and score goals. I'm travelling up on Wednesday, hope it's not a wasted journey.
