Guest MattP Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 This is more for the LCFC forum but I didnt want to clog that up with more threads.... Don't shoot me but some of the posts in the LCFC forum are appalingly written, hard to understand and really drag the forum down. I don't want to come across as some sort of snob but whats anyone idea on coming down on things like "text talk"?? It demeans the forum and makes it look like its populated by uneducated 13 year olds. It really does ruin it when you are trying to read through the more insightful posts then to have to come to one where a whole paragraph doesnt have a word spelt correctly. Any thoughts?
The Doctor Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 The rules do say that text talk is prohibited, and should this have gone in user feedback?
davieG Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 As Al said it is banned but it's difficult to police. At what point do you pick people up on it, how many words do they have to write in text talk? We're already accused of being over officious. and too lack. it really is a no win situation for us.
Guest Bilo Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 I think what Davie said is spot on. I wouldn't call some of the writing on here text speak. It's more poorly written, grammatically incorrect and sloppy. Some of this might down to laziness but some of it might be down to genuine learning issues such as dyslexia or dyspraxia and it would be wholly unfair to tarnish everyone who doesn't write perfectly with the same brush. The best thing to do is you really can't abide someone's posts? Stick them on Ignore. Incidentally I should point out that most on my ignore actually have reasonable standards of grammar but absolutely fvcking appalling levels of footballing knowledge, which I find more embarrassing than poor capitalisation and usage of commas; and this coming from an English graduate.
Daggers Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 At what point do you pick people up on it, Either: 1. They have a post count of less than 15,000 2. They appear to be the product of a union between ibbosuk and dangerous tiger
Adster Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 The thing is, it's not exactly hard to use correct English is it? Takes an extra 10 seconds in a paragraph to reach over for that extra letter or whatever. On the subject of Ibbosuk, it's clear he doesn't WANT to use it on FoxesTalk, as I follow him on Twitter and he uses perfect English and grammar is everyone of his posts, of what I see anyways. It just looks utter dross, and doesn't help the look of the forum from other peoples perspectives, but I agree 100% with you Davie.

In fairness I think he's on the Ignore list of 90% of the forum which is why he gets so few responses, which in turn is why he posts a lot less than he used to because he isn't getting the attention. Problem solved. It doesn't make the forum look good when half the posts are poorly written I agree but what can you do? Most football forums have the same problem and having seen some; we're much, much better off than a few. Yes OTIB and WACCOE, I am talking about you.

I have tried to do this in the past and failed, do you mind telling me how I can add him to my ignore list? He annoys me so much. Thanks.

lcfc"weasel" Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 I have no one on my ignore list. Me neither.
The Doctor Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 I have no one on my ignore list. yeah but aren't you a Mod and so can't have people on ignore?
Daggers Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 89, and going up rapidly every day I spend back on this forum.
Bryn Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 Why the fuck do you care? Just let the staff do their job. Part of the reason newer members get so riled when the admins and mods try and do their job, is that there are about 3000 losers on here who pick them up on every single mistake. The best thing you could do, as staff, is ban anyone telling other members what to do and how to post, unless they are staff. Then, when a friendly mod sends a polite message asking them to desist, they will be more agreeable.
Alexikokopops Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 yeah but aren't you a Mod and so can't have people on ignore? I didn't even think of that
MC Prussian Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 I have no one on my ignore list. God, you're lazy.
MC Prussian Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 89, and going up rapidly every day I spend back on this forum. How do you do that? I'm only at 30.

I wouldn't worry, judging by some of the posts on here over the last week about 75% of the posters will be hurling themselves off the nearest bridge in despair after the next loss (whenever that happens). It'll probably improve the overall quality of posting significantly
Guest MattP Posted 19 August 2011 Posted 19 August 2011 Just realised where this thread had been moved to! Understand what you mean, would actually be impossible to police, I still think ones who turn up and post a whole paragraph of nonsense should be infracted. Didn't realise we had an ignore feature, that's going to get some use. :-)
Bellend Sebastian Posted 19 August 2011 Posted 19 August 2011 I have no-one on ignore either. It's a fine line between being entertaining and being a willy puller, and I should know. I consider all posters as being like my children. Just because some of them are seriously impaired in any number of ways it doesn't mean I don't love them
Babylon Posted 19 August 2011 Posted 19 August 2011 Dis fred iz shiz innit guy. Mi bloodz iz guna tear diz shiz up aint it. Peace out word to you mother.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 19 August 2011 Posted 19 August 2011 Dis fred iz shiz innit guy. Mi bloodz iz guna tear diz shiz up aint it. Peace out word to you mother. She's very well, thanks for asking
Bellend Sebastian Posted 19 August 2011 Posted 19 August 2011 How's foxy? Shall we ask him? Foxy Peter, Babylon wants to know how you're getting on. "That's very polite of him to enquire, I always thought he seemed like a gentleman. I'm pleased to say I'm very well and thinking about eating some Battenburg cake". That's fantastic, Foxy. Any predictions for the Forest game? "I predict that it's going to be a lovely day". I think that's what we all want, Foxy
