The Smokers' Thread

Tried giving up so many times. Longest period was a 1 year and 2 months. Tend not to smoke more than 5 a day if I’m not drinking. When boozing anything from 10 - 15. I've made a promise to myself to quit before I turn 30 in July. I'm tired of whinging to myself about how crap I feel all the time and all of the anxiety that goes with it.

As from April, the law is changing to make display of cigarettes illegal.

My first of experience of this was in France, when I stopped at motorway services to buy some ciggies and a coffee and couldn't see them anywhere! After milling about for a bit, I saw somebody else ask for them and they were in a drawer under the counter. Very weird.

Anyway, I was in Coventry (booo!) on Wednesday and I popped into the big Tesco at Walsgrave to buy some fags. It looks like they're starting to adopt the new regs early in readiness. It was very strange - the tobacco was all behind a white cabinet, but they'd put lots of printed signs up saying 'Tobacco sold here'.

It was slightly awkward because the brand I smoke are fairly uncommon, to the extent that most places I buy them locally constantly remind me how I'm the only person that buys them. Therefore, I often get puzzled looks when asking for them followed by the cashier having to search the whole cabinet to find them. So ordering them blind, without knowing if they even stocked them was slight pain-in-the-arse.

It's going to be very strange.

I've noticed Asda at Thurmaston has not displayed ciggys for a good couple of months now already. Big shutter across it now.

Smoke roll-ups i'm sorry to admit .....less expensive but just as lethal !

Not big and not clever ....bloody hard habit to kick tbh !

Just a little tale about two old golfers playing a round .

Conversation as they played included George saying to his playing partner ...

"By the way Fred ....how's the dear lady wife? "

"She's fine replies Fred ...i left her in bed smoking ."

"That's the way to leave 'em " says George !!

I smoke 1 or 2 cigars a year, I don't know if that counts? I do enjoy them though.

The human mind is retarded. I'll look after people who've had huge operations from cancers caused by smoking, people who've had their larynx, tongue and oesophagus removed, and will be living with a tracheostomy tube for the rest of their life...

Then the nurses and doctors will pop out for a quick fag. I'm one of them too, ****ing retarded. Must quit.

I've never seen the attraction of smoking! Never even tried it. But I don't agree with the display ban, it just makes no sense!? :dunno:

I think I poster in here earlier this yer after I quit. I support anyone who's thinking about it tbh, all I can say is I just stopped liking the taste and smell it made....so I quit. Seriously, just smell yourself after you've not smoked for a few hours, it stinks. Good luck to anyone trying, I never even get the urge to have one again if that's any motivation.

Good work. Likewise.

lol Likewise what? You agree? I'm so confused about smoking, I can't for the life of me work out why I did it for so long.

Huh! I know, it's just so easy.

Not had one so far today though.

I just meant 5 a day is nothing and can't imagine it'd be hard to stop. Sounds like it's more of a habit than addiction. If that makes sense??
