Pretty absymal but when there is very few things on tv, its better thasn watching snog marry and avoid or what ever mess bbc 3 can come up with. Though saying that, theres usally something better on bbc 2 or channel 4 at that time.

TV game shows and/or talent shows are one of those things that I would never watch for obvious reasons but if they're ever on at a friends house or something then I find them quite enjoyable to watch. I'd never actually sit down and watch on though.

Turn the TV off and read a book or browse the internet.

I was at a friends house recently and much to their horror demanded that we watch Take Me Out which could be quite adequately be described as an absolute train crash of a TV show. At the same time I find it utterly compulsive viewing. Said friend then launched into a predictable tirade about how awful TV was nowadays, how it was a poor reflection on society, how it was all for chavs blah blah blah. Within about 5 minutes though the volume was turned up and we were all engrossed.

The moral of this story is that some people take themselves far too seriously. Furthermore just because people like a bit of shallow, light entertainment as an escape from the dismal reality of normal life doesn't mean they're all chavs or the dregs of society. It's just a bit of a laugh.

And i suppose you define the 'Drips of society' as those who don't get hung up on wild conspiracy theories, don't spend a lot of time speaking to people they've never met before on an internet forum and those who maybe work hard all day and like to enjoy a bit of light entertainment at the end of the day.

In my opinion, mindnumbing braindead shit would be some documentary or wasting an hour of my life reading a shit article on some ex con about his time in prison...

In one ridiculous statement you have claimed every documentary in existence and that an article which was very well written that would have broadened your horizons a little is all mindbumbing braindead shit.

Ignorance is bliss I suppose.

Not seen this programme, don't want to.

Almost everything on ITV primetime is absolutely devoid of content and is just sugar-coated, shiny, sequiny fluff.

X Factor is one of the better ones but it's still guilty of the same thing. If you break an episode down, it's about 10 minutes of content and 40 minutes of padded-out moments of faux-drama, trite 'emotional' montage sequences and inane flashing lights.

TV execs play it safe and synically build these programmes to tried and tested formulae and for as little money / maximum profit as possible. Obviously - that's there job so I'm not knocking them.

X-factor is one of the worst shows on tv, purely for the reasons you stated.

It's unbearable to watch, and I genuinely mean that.

Saw it last weekend and thought it was terrible. I knew as soon as the programme was stopped for a live performance by Pixie Lott that Simon Cowell would have something to do with it, you've got to respect the guy for how he manages to make so much money out of the sh*test of things.

What are people's thoughts on this? The winner of one million pounds previously convicted of assaulting a woman.

Personally I think that if he got on the game and won then fair enough he can walk away with his £1million regardless of what he's done previously in life. There should have been stricter checks to ensure that he didn't get to the point where he was able to win £1million though. I think a criminal record is a valid reason to prevent someone having the chance to win a life changing amount of money.

I wouldn't say it was ridiculous, i'm an 18 year old guy, i ****ing hate documentary's, they bore me to death. I'd much rather watch something like the X Factor than a documentary on southern migrating pelicans or actually, even better, go out which i'm pretty sure most people in this forum don't actually do.

I watched a bit of it on Sunday because my cousin's husband was in it, he got knocked out in the second round. The show made it look as if they bussed all the winners of R1to some castle for the second round but they had to make their own way there a week later.

When I was at my brothers last his wife and my niece were engrossed in X-factor. They were discussing who was best and why. I would in no way class them as thick. My sister inlaw has teaching qualifications and my neice is at Universtityb studiying media or advertising not sure what exactly but its in that area. My brother like me avoided it. He avoids a lot of what his wife watches by playing poker as a full time job online although I have known him to make comments about certain acts if he thinks they are any good.

Not too bothered myself. Used to watch opputunity Knocks years ago. There was no hype just plain acts with a little or no talent. Then there was New Faces which was OK. After that it went downhill. Thing is the stations compete as to wh can show the best or worst Saturday TV line up. Maybe more people/husbands go out and they cater for the women. When Red and Black was on I was watching some touney snooker on Eurosport which I think was slightly better.

You say that as if there is no documentary that would interest you. That is a pretty ridiculous thing to say. There are thousands and thousands out there and if you looked I'm sure you'd find plenty. I couldn't give a toss about southern migrating pelicans either and I don't really watch documentaries but that's not to say that there aren't a fair few that would interest me.

I can't be doing with high-concept bollocks like Red or Black , I much prefer gameshows with an element of skill or personal challenge and questions. Who Wants to be a Millionaire for exapmle. (until it became "celebrity-ised"). I don't care about the "drama" and the life-changing sums of money, I don't give a shit about the contestant's personal stories and how their dreams will be made reality if only they can win the jackpot. Don't care, don't care, don't care. Just give me as many trivia questions as can be squeezed into half an hour, so I can play along at home and feel smug when I know something a contestant doesn't.

Red or Black, you might as well just blindfold people and ask how many fingers am i holding up... 1 or 2.
