Anyone would think we lost 10-0

At least the more critical posters are basing their opinions on evidence (i.e. our performances so far). Your optimisim doesn't seem to be based on anything tangible.

I'll see them very soon.

Have you been to more than just one league game so far?

I've been to zero league games so far. Lost a bit of interest to be honest (all this money and shit has put me off more than expected) plus I've been well busy in London.

Anyway I was simply contrasting a post from say marbelladave with one of yours and was wondering why you were so optimistic when the evidence from what I consider to be reliable sources suggests there isn't that much to be positive about, particularly given our upcoming fixtures.

I'm still in two minds. Yes Sven does need more time, ridiculous to write him at this point off but I find the comments about fitness, tactics, etc very troubling.

Perhaps optimism is your philosophy for everyday life but your posts might be more sensible if you entertained the possibility that things will not work out.

We all hope that the club does get promoted. Hope is the operative word. Blind optimism is just misguided.

And this hope manifests itself in various forms - I acknowledge that.

However, I'm not a blind optimist. There have been tactical mistakes, a sloppy attitude from certain players.

I do see room for improvements, but negating this possibility (like many of the critics posting on here over the past few weeks saying we're well off pace) is also not the answer.

If you had some control over putting right the shortcomings you have observed then you might have some cause for optimism. It is illogical and naive to insist that we will have a successful season. Football is wildly unpredictable yet you seem to be in denial.

Surely it is far more appealing to base your philosophy on reviewing the liklihood of long term success based on any improvements in the short term and not just blandly say "everything will be fine"?

There are no easy fixtures in the Championship, only fans who think there are easy fixtures in the Championship.

As demonstrated (amongst others) during the 7-1 thrashing of Ipswich at the hands of Peterborough.

Of course as bizarre as that result was it was significantly aided by the fact Ipswich played a half with 9 players.

There are no easy fixtures. Surely though you can understand some fixtures are easier than others? We have had an easier start to the season than last year, we have harder fixtures coming up now for the next few week.

I am pretty sure we will take more points from Barnsley, Doncaster and Coventry at home than we will from West Ham, Cardiff and Middlesboro away. I'm sure 99% of people would agree.

I'm positive we will string a series of results together that will see us moving up the ranks.

I admire you I really do, but how and why can you come to this conclusion from what we have witnessed so far?

You say Claridge shouldnt have an opinion on us because he doesnt understand the facts and then you come out with a sentence like this that is based on nothing but blind hope.

re: time to gel

Good players know where other good players on the pitch will be, gelling time is nothing but an excuse

Plenty of other clubs have gone through changes and success has continued rather than restarted, all takes is good & clear management & coaching

We've been woeful with 433 & pretty sharp with a diamond 442, when Sven drops this fascination with something that blatantly isn't working for us we'll push on, but until then I can see us winning one, losing one & drawing one a recipe for 8th-12th, coincidently right where we are.

Fingers crossed for a diamond against B'ton, we'll have to be at our best for the whole 90 though & I'm sure we will be as its time to kick-on upwards

I quite agree with this. Personally I think if good players are played in their proper positions, and everyone in the team knows their role in an effective formation, then it shouldn't take that long for the team to 'gel'. This is football we're speaking about after all, not rocket science - and these people play football together for 30 hours a week.

As far as I can see, most of our 'gelling' problems have been of our own making. We bought Danns as a central midfielder but have been trying to play him at left wing. Dyer (the only player in the squad without a right foot) we have continued to play on the right wing. Against Reading Abe, Wellens and Fernandes were all playing in the same position and were stood next to each other for most of the game. Sven has persisted with 4-4-3 despite overwhelming evidence that we play better with 2 men upfront. Most of the players in midfield don't actually seem to have a clue what they are meant to be doing.

I think our play will improve in time - but if it does, it won't be because of some 'magic key' turning or because thinks just start to 'click'. It will be because Sven and the players eventually settle on tactics that actually work.

Anyone find it a bit strange if we are finding it difficult to gel that the players were on holiday (those not on international duty) rather than training together last week? :S

How can you come to the conclusion that all is rotten in the state of Denmark?

Sometimes, I think the years under MON have established a certain mentality and spoilt a whole generation of Leicester fans (that is my theory).

Since we now have money available for the first time in years (if not one more), a certain section of LCFC fans assumes we'd automatically emulate previous successes with a large element of ease.

It's not easy getting out of this league.

What if... we had made a brilliant start and would greet from the top of the table after six matches? It'd create a certain buzz, no doubt about it. The critics of Sven would be silent in a dark corner.

What if... after a brilliant start, we'd suddenly see a decline in form? It's very hard to maintain a steady form in this league, with all the competition on the other places.

Only few teams have managed to keep a mostly clean vest over the period of a Championship season.

I simply have the belief that things will turn around for good.

If... we'd find ourselves bottom of the table after six matches, I'd question Sven's approach myself, no doubt about it.

But we're in 10th spot, three points off a playoff place and seven points off the No.2 spot. Things will even themselves out and the team will come together.

On a sidenote, I've never made a comment about Claridge's stance. I think you're confusing me with somebody else.

All I stated was that I, when it comes to team management, have more faith in a coach who's built up his reputation through the years with various teams than a former player with 28 different spells at about twenty different clubs who's now a literally miserable TV pundit.

I know Dann's went to a wedding abroad and Gally went away but didn't the rest go on some team bonding trip to the races or something?

Apologies if the Claridge quote wasnt you.

This is the problem.... it seems to be all "If's" at the minute, had Sven won 6 out of 6, yep we would all be loving it and talking about how great he is. "If" I had got the job last season and taken us to the premiership then I'd be a legend.

Both "If's" - neither have happened, neither appear likely to at the minute.

7 points is actually quite a bit, you could say the other way we are just 4 off the relegation spots and 10th looks far better than it actually is. I know if you had said to Sven after 6 games that included Coventry and Barnsley away and homes games V Bristol City, Soton and Reading we would be 7 points off the pace he wouldnt have been impressed.

Like I have said, I'm not worried about being tenth, I'm not worried about the points status at the minute, I'm worried that we are being played off the pitch by teams like Barnsley and we don't have the correct players in the correct positions for what we are trying to play. I'm worried in 12 halves of football we have performed well for 2.

Anyway, lets look forward, lets hope some of these mistakes start to get rectified and we dont fall to far behind the top 2.

ah! I was going by the fact I saw Danns and Gallys photos on twitter.

If the rest actually were in ful training wtf is Gally doing on holiday? :S

Wow!!

Damn anyone to hell if they show some level of optimism, damn them to hell if they believe that we have a squad of talented players, damn them to hell if they are happy that we have an experienced and successful manager. Instead lets assume that being one win out of the playoffs and unbeaten in 4 games is a problem. Especially when a whole 1/7th of the season is gone

Im amazed that some people on this site can even say the word optimism let alone spell it, type it or comprehend it.

Its far easier to announce that the players are shit, the manager knows nothing and the world is coming to an end.

I hope each and everyone of you negative naysayers come back to this topic at the end of the season...im confident that i will be comfortable reading it and laughing.

Didnt you make exactly the same post this time last year?

"Football is wildly unpredictable"...

Well, I've been saying this all along. So why do you and your negative peers insist on seeing us losing track as the season progresses? You know as little as I do.

You can only measure long-term success after... yes, right... a longer period of time. And not six games into a new season.

This time last year, our manager was a certain Paulo Sousa.

So, probably a wrong guess on your behalf.wink.gif

That's exactly what I am talking about.

I remember quite a few "give Paulo time, he has brought in good players, wait till it clicks, we are passing the ball well, all you naysayers will look like idiots at christmas."

To be fair though we've see a good run under Sven already last season with a more thrown together side and we've seen flashes of good football so far this season which we didn't have under Sousa, so its not totally illogical to deduce that we can put together a good run and play good football under Sven with a bit more consistency.

No i did not.

i supported Sousa and felt we were playing decent football under him however, i welcomed the appointment of Sven and believe we are playing even better footbball under him.

I will always admit my posts generally tend to be optimistic and supportive of the club and players but that does not mean it is blind loyalty. Clearly we are not playing as well as we should but i dont believe anyone (including MON) is going to get a better result from this squad and i dont believe that whining and booing the players is going to help either...... most of all, i dont think that anyone who is basing their statements on the radio commentary can offer any opinion on the players and how they are playing.

I've only missed Barnsley so far this season. From what I gather I'm glad I did.

Our football is better under Sven than Sousa as it should be with the resources available. You don't have to be optimistic to prove your support, I'll be there again on saturday getting behind the side for 90 minutes and that won't change whatever happens during that time, However I wont shy away from pointing out things that I believe are damaging my football team after that 90 mins has passed.

Fact is some can sit saying it wont work, some can sit here and say its about to come, the real fact is it's all about opinion based on what we have seen so far and deep down neither of us know if it's actually right. I believe this can work out, but we need Sven start doing things a lot different to what he has been for that to be the case.

21st century fox makes an excellent point about the run we went on last season, I think they said last night Sven won 14 of his first 20 games and has won 6 in 20 since, that's an incredible stat as usually with a manager it works the other way round, it almost leads to me to believe with the smaller squad we had Sven got more out of the players as he had a more settled side, It started to go a little wrong last year after he had flooded the squad with more players than I thought we needed. I hope the same hasnt happened this season but he will have a job keeping all these midfielders happy.

I just hope within the next 2/3 games he decides on what he best eleven is and tries to stick with it for some considerable amount of time, no one ever achieves success in football changing the side around every week.

You make a good point about the differences in the size of the squad from last season, its going to be detrimental up to a certain point because of the rotating and having to keep players happy but it'll also be our depth that'll prove one of our biggest advantages and the fact that we can call on good back up players as and when we need to, which is something not alot of our rivals can boast. It seems as if we need to be patient while things settle and we find balance and consistency.

I'm not sure Sven will have cemented it by 2/3 games though because Nugent's still out, but hopefully it will settle down somewhat.
