Lambert09 Posted 14 September 2011 Posted 14 September 2011 I have got a bit of a theory on the poor form of matt mills. I feel a part of it could be down to giving him the arm band. He had a massive pressure stuck on him by his price tag but I think that could be overlooked because of all the other signings. Captaincy has to be earnt by someone, through playing well, loyalty good, friendships at the club and a top attitude. Matt Mills achieved this at Reading, not Leicester. This now meant he had to prove himself twice as much and I think that has affected his game. I also think King would have been a poor choice, just because your a great player doesn't mean your a great leader. The right choice I think many would agree would have been Wellens, the coaching staff and the fans already know what he can do and he has nothing to prove, the arm band would just boost his confidence and reward him for playing great football, he isn't scared to bollock a team mate or show passion but enjoys a laugh with the boys at the same time. This decision would make the city boys who have been here a while feel unapreciated and not respect the manager or the captain as much. Poor move Sven!! Rant over
Bugg Posted 14 September 2011 Posted 14 September 2011 I agree he shouldn't be captain, but if he strips him of it after 6 games it is going to have a detrimental effect on him and could actually make it a lot worse.
Kitchandro Posted 14 September 2011 Posted 14 September 2011 I agree he shouldn't be captain, but if he strips him of it after 6 games it is going to have a detrimental effect on and could actually make it a lot worse. This
LcFc_Smiv Posted 14 September 2011 Posted 14 September 2011 I don't think the OP is saying he should be stripped of it, I think it's more to highlight a mistake that Sven has made. Unfortunately as you have pointed out we can't really strip him off it without going backwards, it's just one of those things we now have to put up with.
Guest BlueBrett Posted 14 September 2011 Posted 14 September 2011 Should have gone to BAMBA, Wellens or Fernandes.
Bugg Posted 14 September 2011 Posted 14 September 2011 Should have gone to BAMBA, Wellens or Fernandes. I don't think making a loan player captain would be very wise either.
Lambert09 Posted 14 September 2011 Author Posted 14 September 2011 I completely agree, I was just expressing my annoyance at a bad decision, I am fully backing MM and am still confident he will do well, I just think it might take him that little bit longer
absolutelegend Posted 14 September 2011 Posted 14 September 2011 Mills shouldn't be in the team, let alone captain. Konchesky or Schmiecel should be captain.
Guest BlueBrett Posted 14 September 2011 Posted 14 September 2011 I don't think making a loan player captain would be very wise either Good point. maybe i'm not the world's greatest undiscovered football managing talent afterall.
muzzy1981 Posted 14 September 2011 Posted 14 September 2011 Yeh I agree, but the decision has been made so needs to stick with it. Shouldn't have dropped him against Bristol either. He did captain Reading in the play-off final last year so has the experience. Just need to give him time
ozleicester Posted 14 September 2011 Posted 14 September 2011 Im a fan of Mills and believe you dont go from one of the best in the league to crap overnight. However, he does seem to be struggling and the armband isnt helping. The alternative of taking the captinancy away isnt going to help. We need to give him and the team some support and give them the confidence and belief that every leicester team and player deserves.
Calfox Posted 14 September 2011 Posted 14 September 2011 I agree, it should definitely have been given to wellens I think it has made it harder for Matty mills to show what he can do as he's not only trying to play well he's trying to be a good captain who really should be leading by example which is taking his full focus off his game. I think he cud be a good leader but needs to concentrate on his football at the moment rather than being a leader! Up the foxes!!
Corky Posted 14 September 2011 Posted 14 September 2011 Kasper shouldn't be captain, how can he relay information to the strikers during the game? I'm not convinced by any player as captain really.
Houdini Logic Posted 14 September 2011 Posted 14 September 2011 Kasper shouldn't be captain, how can he relay information to the strikers during the game? Tell that to Spain and Real Madrid
Dan Posted 14 September 2011 Posted 14 September 2011 The OP is spot on for me, sadly I think Wellens would've been the best out of a bad bunch.
Corky Posted 14 September 2011 Posted 14 September 2011 Tell that to Spain and Real Madrid I did, they didn't listen
beemeroo Posted 14 September 2011 Posted 14 September 2011 Hindsight is a wonderful thing, however, it's not too long ago that we had a thread on here calling for Mills to be made club captain. You can't win them all.
absolutelegend Posted 14 September 2011 Posted 14 September 2011 it's not too long ago that we had a thread on here calling for Mills to be made club captain. guess we (city fans) didn't expect him to be as bad as he has been - and no getting away from it, he's be awful. think he has it in him to improve though, but we don't have the time to wait i'm afraid. he shouldn't be in the team on current merit.

Rant over This is the same Matt Mills that skippered Reading to the playoff final and led his team well in it, as indeed he did whenever Reading came to Leicester. Part of the reason Sven paid so much for him was because he could provide leadership - something we all too often lacked last season. The more mature members of the squad would have accepted and respected that. They are extremely well employed as professional footballers after all. And I don't agree Wellens would be a great choice. If he had been, surely Nigel Pearson would have made him and not Jack Hobbs the skipper during the playoffs. While he may show "passion" during some of our bigger games, there are also too many occasions where he has gone AWOL, especially in away matches - last Saturday being just the latest example. He didn't exactly cover himself in glory when he did wear the armband - which, strangely enough, was the occasion of our last defeat.
Izzet is God Posted 14 September 2011 Posted 14 September 2011 Don't think Mills is a bad choice of skipper....can't really blame poor form on the fact he's captain. It may create pressure being given the task after just signing for the club but with 7/8 new faces in the starting 11 he's hardly got to prove to anyone he's the man for the job. I think he's rightly 1st choice but maybe Wellens would be a ideal replacement selection...might even save him a yellow here and there as he can a quiet word with the ref! Although I love Sol, he's not a captain...he'd lose the ball on the 6 yard line in our box by attempting to dribble it out with a couple of turns and blame someone else...hardly the best candidate.
Fox92 Posted 14 September 2011 Posted 14 September 2011 I would have given it to Wellens anyway. I don't agree with players coming straight in and taking the captaincy, but Mills established himself as a good Championship defender and captain within the last two seasons for Reading. I don't belive he can turn into a bad player overnight.
Kitchandro Posted 14 September 2011 Posted 14 September 2011 I think the captaincy straight away was too much pressure for him and he's struggled to break free from it. He's not shown many leadership qualities so far, he does shout a bit but has no conviction in anything he does, he looks very nervous whenever the ball comes near him and he hasn't taken charge of the defence. The only reason he'll be in the team on Saturday (if he is) is because we don't really have anyone better to replace him, but frankly he doesn't warrant a starting place at the moment let alone the captaincy. He will surely show some sort of class soon though, it wasn't just us, 2 Premiership clubs were interested.
LilMissFox Posted 14 September 2011 Posted 14 September 2011 I reckon Schmeichel or Andy King should be captain or even Nugent once he's fit and back on the squad
