Ashley Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 I can remember posting on here a while back the virtual tour and pictures of the ground we first planned to have built over the river from where our ground is situated now. Anyone got any of these pictures or the video it self? I've searched google but couldn't find the first plans for our stadium which would of been around 40-45,000? I did use the search tool but couldn't remember what I called the old thread. Thanks Ashley.

Carter90 Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 there is something on YouTube with Gary Lineker doing the voiceover
Mike the Metal Ed Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/news/article-1574457/Leicester-City-shelves-stadium-plans.html I don't think plans actually got much further than this. Don't remember seeing any models of the proposed site at the time.

There was a website online that did have the pictures I had it saved on my favourites on my last laptop which is now broke last time I saw it was maybe a year ago? the website belonged to the graphics company that designed the pictures for the stadium from what I remember will have a search for it again tonight but last time I googled it I couldnt find it the stadium looked pretty decent better than the KP Stadium, it was very simular to derbys/middlesboroughs main stand but the same all the way around and was 40000 capacity I also remember the club sent us out a brochure with all the details and pictures in same when the walkers stadium plans were being made did anybody else recieve these?
Ashley Posted 15 September 2011 Author Posted 15 September 2011 DavieG, that's the picture I wanted and others posted by unreachable from that thread. Thankyou!
thybluefox Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 Dang, imagine if we'd have got that, it really would be half full now. Also don't like the sound of what went with it; "40,000 SEAT STADIUM (CLASS D2), THREE NON-FOOD RETAIL WAREHOUSES (A1), HOTEL (C1), RESTAURANT/CASINO (A3/D2), FAST FOOD RESTAURANTS (A3), WITH ACCESS ROAD, BRIDGE, PEDESTRIAN AND CYCLE ACCESS, VEHICLE PARKING AND LANDSCAPING (AMENDED PLANS)" Sounds like Cov's place
Libertine Dream Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 Looking at a few of those photos and details you really have to be disappointed with what we've ended up with. KP would have loved to have something like that as it has plenty of potential. In fact our ground is a massive disappointment compared to most.
jonthefox Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 Has anyone got a picture from the stadium at beaumont leys from years ago?.

And i take it thats Svens fault too????? :crylaugh:
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 Oh for the love of god please fuck off with this argument. That is all. I think he's got half a point. Yes, I'm grateful that we've got the KP, particularly when you see what other clubs have. But it would have been nice to have a new stadium that was a little different to other new stadiums of the era. Unfortunately we got caught up in a five year period where clubs were looking to build new stadiums as cheaply as possible, at the expense of aesthetics. The Bede Island one was, and is, different to a lot of other stadiums. Like I said, I'm glad we have a stadium with excellent views, and I do in fact think it's a little nicer than the Ricoh, St Mary's and Pride Park. But I must admit I look at stadiums such as Brighton's, the Reebok and even Tigers Caterpillar Stand and have a little pang of envy that ours hasn't got that touch of uniqueness. I think even something as simple as expanding by having one stand significantly larger than the rest would differentiate ours from the others a bit. Hopefully we can get promoted, stay there, do an expansion and fill it.
Guest Bilo Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 I still maintain that if the following two things had happened in 2000, we would probably still be a top 10 Premiership club to this day. 1. The Bede Island South project, complete with 40,000 capacity stadium, had been ratified and completed. 2. MON had been given the transfer funds Tater Peeler was given. So near yet so far.
iancognito Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 I never understood why we were aiming to build a 40,000 stadium anyway, even in the O'Neill glory days there were times when Filbo didn't sell out and there'd only be 18-19K at some of our premier games. The plans for Bede were better but way over the top for a club of our size then and even now.
Guest Bilo Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 Had we continued along the same vein, our fan base would have absolutely exploded. Think of all the lads you see wearing replicas of the Big Four out and about in Leicester, then all those from the surrounding counties such as Northamptonshire and Lincolnshire where there wouldn't have been a club anywhere near the top 10 within hundreds of miles except us. We would have had the inevitable first season rise in attendances as we had at the Walkers, averaging 30,000 despite being in the second tier, and could very well have maintained well over 30,000 as an average had we carried on the good work of MON including cup runs, Europe and the like.
Jace Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 end of the day we are still quite lucky to have the stadium we have we couldnt afford it when we bought it and didnt pay what we should of for it, if we were still at filbert st now this club would really be struggling to compete with championship teams when the walkers is good enough for a premiership team. It would of been great if we had a 40000+ stadium on bede island I think the club would of grown more like sunderland did when they moved from roker park but it didnt happen but we should still be pleased with what we ended up with weve still got plans and the resources to expand now to 40000 anyway if the owners want to tier the east stand
thybluefox Posted 16 September 2011 Posted 16 September 2011 I really hope the owners expand the easy stand, and more importantly we're in a position to fill it. Will make the place so much more interesting.
