A good win tomorrow and we are right back in there... A strange evening indeed... I can't understand the utter claptrap being posted on here tonight. This is hardly the worst City side in 40 years - there have been plenty of sides that have struggled to stay in this division and we're criticising a man who's bought-in thirteen new faces in the space of three months for not starting the season like a rat up a drainpipe? Give it a rest and focus on the fact that, with the signings of players we've made being in their mid-20s and with plenty yet to show us - not to mention the emergence of Jeff Schlupp under Eriksson and the behind-the-scenes building of the training ground for new blood like young Michael Cain to come through - there is a lot to be excited about as a Leicester City fan. A personal story for you, then: At the end of the 2006-07 season I was looking forward to going to university. I worked in Market Harborough over the summer with a Kettering Town fan and I would go to matches with him - I still check the Poppies' results, in fact. Wide-eyed I stood, delighted, at the open terracing and free-flowing alcohol I, as a blue-blooded Leicester City supporter, had never before experience. Having arrived in Chester I duly went to discover the delights of lower league football at the Deva Stadium and indeed followed the Blues more than the Foxes who were, at the time, languishing in Championship mid-bottom mediocrity. I had virtually turned my back on the Foxes I had supported since birth. At the end of that academic year the unthinkable happened and Leicester City were relegated to the third tier of English football for the first time. The next day, my house mates daubed my bedroom window with slogans about the dire Foxes and how good Forest were. I seethed with anger and I knew then where my true passions lay. The next season I carried-on going to the Deva occasionally but I was instead more interested in the Foxes. I took out a FoxesPlayer subscription and would sit in my room, listening to games. I would stand up and take the laughter when I asked in the pub if they'd put the telly on in the corner to show the City game on Sky whilst the rest of the punters watched Man City, Arsenal, United and Liverpool on the big screens on ESPN. And I would scream louder than any of them when we scored, and I knew we would be back. Only four years ago I had virtually abandoned them but since then I have seen my club blossom into a mighty force in the second tier, through good times and bad - don't turn round and tell me I shouldn't be excited about the Leicester City of today. Up The Foxes.

It's naive to think that this negative attitude amongst some of our support doesn't impact the players. Think we'll take something from tomorrow's game personally. Might not be the three points but if our defense is as tight as it has been in the last two games then we are capable of nicking it.

We're not convincing and shoot me down but I don't think Sven is the man for us personally - but you're telling me you've not seen worse than this? Try 2004-2008. I think this side would smash virtually every one of them.

Have a lie down 6 points in the next 2 games will bring you back to reality That simply aint going to happen, we are away to easily the best form team tomorrow and we are on the telly again Saturday! Right, let's go back over the past 40 years. 1970s - The Bloomfield era, one of the best footballing sides Leicester City has EVER produced, was quickly followed by the McLintock era. A team that set records for least wins, most defeats, least goals scored, most goals conceded and least points acquired. They finished bottom of the first division while Forest won the league. Vintage season. 1980s - Relegated in 1987 under Gordon Milne and didn't return again until 1994 under Brian Little, where we swiftly went straight back down. Some of the teams in between those seven years were embarrassingly gutless, including the team that needed a last day win against Oxford to avoid relegation to the third tier. 2000s - How about pretty much every team we put out between being relegated from the Premiership in 2004 and Pearson arriving in 2008? Craig Levein, Rob Kelly, Ian Holloway, Gary Megson and all that? Nothing I've ever watched under Sven has even come close to the depths of that defeat at home to Sheffield United, the sheer ineptitude of displays under Levein that generated about as much pleasure as pubic lice or the pitiful 2007-2008 season that saw us fall to our lowest ever ebb. Where we putting out players like Collins John, Carl Cort and Levi Porter. How about going back to the 2001-2002 where we started with a 5-0 defeat at home to a side that had just come up through the play-offs and achieved the scientifically impossible by actually getting worse? Christ you only have to go back to this time last year with that 6-1 defeat to Portsmouth to see how shit we were under Sousa. It says something when you're singling out Robbie Neilson for praise. Oh and just to prove my point against the side we put out against Sheffield United, imagine these gems playing at home in an ultra-defensive formation to get an idea of what utter bobbins we were back then. Fulop, N'Gotty, Kisnorbo, McAuley, Chambers, Clemence, Wesolowski, Sheehan, Stearman, Fryatt, Campbell. Subs: Henderson, Kenton, Porter, Newton, John Surely you can see we are nowhere near as bad as that? Also, your timing is well off considering we're five games unbeaten.

I don't think I ever stopped checking results and I have the 2007-08 shirt, however. The point I was trying to make was that we've been in much more dire times than these in the past few years and it was when we were at the very lowest ebb that I saw where my loyalties lie.

Legend_in_blue Posted 27 September 2011 Posted 27 September 2011 The OP is missing the point. We are not crap. The league is. The fact that S'hampton and Brighton are at the top speaks volumes. All you need in this league to do half decent is play well defensively. That's the main difference between play in this league and league 1. This was proved when we went up with NP and now with S'hampton and Brighton. End of. The league is way below the Premiership in terms of class. So as I said at the top, the league is crap. We aren't necessarily so and will soon hit our stride.

The team that took us down arguably wasn't as bad as the team under Levein. For me, that was a total shambles of a team and some of the players in the team were dreadful. Hughes, Williams, ... the list goes on and on. The problem with the current team is that we have no wingers other than Dyer. We haven't had two wingers for years. When was the last time we had wingers left and right in the team? I can't remember.

SOCCERROO FOX Posted 27 September 2011 Posted 27 September 2011 I've been a city fan now for over 40 years so feel i'm entitled to an opinion however badly the forum bullies might abuse me for it-Sven is not, never has been and never will be the man for city, i've never seen a Sven team play with real passion and i'm sure his record bears this out, certain clubs need a certain type of manager and we just happen to be one of those-can't put my finger on it but when we get the right manager the fans know it and so do the players-i've not missed a game yet this season but i'm seriously thinking about not making the trip to the Riverside, our team is probably the worst team i've seen down here, we've got the likes of wellens, king and abe who are idolised but absolutely garbage, i've never seen a player play as badly week in week out as king yet he gets the nod every week--this really smacks of england in the sven days, i see us as having 3 premiership quality players, Casper, Beckford and Nugent-Beckford's struggling because we don't have a player in the team who can play the ball to him-simple as that, our corners and free kicks are abysmal and would not have been acceptable when o'neill was here--i've tried to avoid posting simply because of how people are ripped into for having their own opinion but just cannot stand being a part of this shit anymore-we are average average average and the long drive home on sunday really made me reflect-£150 for a day out for us on sunday to watch that shower of shit again! come on bullies abuse me! Clearly no one could take you serious after that remark , however I do agree about Sven not being the man to take us forward . At present we are no better than we ought to be given the money it has cost to assemble this team . I firmly believe if we had another top motivational and tactically sound manager we would and should walk this league with the players we have got . I think the fact that he came here on a two year contract says it all . This is not a man who is hungry for success or bothered about proving his self . He is here for the same reason he managed anywhere else THE MONEY . Does anyone here seriously think he would have come here for any other reason ? The good thing is that we have owners who ARE here for the long term and will be here to back a new manager once Sven and his circus has moved on to the next load of suckers . Just remember how quick he pissed off once he realized Notts County had no money ? He has no track record of managing at this level and it shows . I sincerely hope I am wrong on this because I love this club it has been and will be a big part of my life so come on Sven prove me wrong .

Weather we agree with each other or not about needing a new manager the one thing we all want is our club to win games and get promoted.

The players need to gel excuse shouldn't be used anymore and Sven said it himself now, and we've been the better team since the Florist game. We won against Southampton and Brighton also knocking them off the top. If anything I think we're finally on our way up, and despite Sven's bad choices at times, we have him to thank. Rant over
