Nick Posted 28 September 2012 Posted 28 September 2012 I would just like to know what he said and the context in which he said it - I can't make a judgement on either of these idiots until I know the facts. And as for you Darkon84 if your post is serious you have as much understanding of racism as I do of advanced mathematics.

Nick, as I said, if you bothered to read my post, I said I dont necessarily mean what I am saying, just merely putting up a different angle to look at it. And Im assuming you must be pretty damn good at advanced mathematics then, as Ive actually been the victim of racism before, I just dont moan like a limp wristed bitch about it, and in fact laugh at it. Fancy helping me with some quantum mechanics too?
Guest MattP Posted 28 September 2012 Posted 28 September 2012 Case was surely a non starter then? All Im doing is looking at this from a different point of view, not that I necessarily think this way, but just saying... Instead of looking at the word black as a way to be racist, look at is as a physical trait he is unable to change. ie. Peter Crouch seriously tall. That is a physical trait that he is unable to change. Why should it be alright for someone to use that to precede and insult? I mean, he didnt start calling him a spear chucker or anything like that for gods sake. That was pretty much what Ruud Gullit use to say, if someone called him a black bastard the black part wouldn't even bother him. Like Nick says, none of us can really make a judgement on either of the idiots as we really don't know the whole truth.

I'm not saying insulting someone based on their height is right either. It's all sticks and stones at the end of the day, if it's two grown men someone verbally insults you and you're genuinely offended I don't know why you can't just sort it out yourself. Either laugh it off, or knock them out, or whatever. But you can't deny there was intent by Terry to be racist. If there wasn't, he wouldn't have used the term black at all. And if you're caught doing that, I don't see how you can expect not to be punished in this day and age.
Kitchandro Posted 28 September 2012 Posted 28 September 2012 I would just like to know what he said and the context in which he said it - I can't make a judgement on either of these idiots until I know the facts. I don't see what the confusion is with the context. You can't seriously believe he was asking Ferdinand if he was acusing him of calling him a 'black c*nt', because anyone who's living in the real world can see that's a lie plucked out of thin air. It's the most laughable defence I've ever heard.

Theres no doubt he said what he did with malice, but maybe not necessarily with intent to be racist. Going back to crouch etc, if you go to insult someone in the heat of the moment, most people will tend to add something physical to it to make it more personal. ie, lanky ****, fat bastard etc. At the end of the day, I think both Terry and Ferdinand are complete twats (add personal insult before 'twat' as you wish ), and Im not sticking up for Terry, just simply putting a different spin on it. Like MattP brought up about Ruud Gullit, I cant see why more people cant be more like that. If you got called a white c**t, would you really be as offended as some people have become over this?
21st Century Fox Posted 28 September 2012 Posted 28 September 2012 That was pretty much what Ruud Gullit use to say, if someone called him a black bastard the black part wouldn't even bother him. Like Nick says, none of us can really make a judgement on either of the idiots as we really don't know the whole truth. That's not exactly how he put it.... When I played, I received racial abuse but I was just one of a few black players and we weren’t backed up by the authorities. Now there are so many at the top of their profession and they have the backing of important people. Players won’t take that type of abuse anymore. We had to because we had no backing, so I told myself that it was just happening because I was different. I felt I could tackle it by playing well. I looked different but, if I played well, I was accepted. I used to ignore the abuse and felt powerless to change attitudes. My only weapon was my performances on the pitch and I am proud to have played for some of the biggest clubs in the world, as well as winning the European Footballer of the Year and World Footballer of the Year awards. I used the racist abuse in a positive way. I thought people were afraid of me so I used it as my motivation. We are beyond that now though. We just have to hope that racism doesn’t haunt this tournament but that, if it does, the response is strong. We want to remember Euro 2012 for great football.
James. Posted 28 September 2012 Posted 28 September 2012 If you got called a white c**t, would you really be as offended as some people have become over this? Thing is there's a bit of history to the black thing... And 21st Century Fox - great find

And this is what you don't seem to get. There is no power in calling someone a 'white - 'so & so' that's why you are not offended by it. When you are in a minority which has been subjected to hundreds of years of oppression because of your ethnicity, then it carries more meaning. Hence why I won't be doing your math. And stop knocking about with acooling - he's no good for you.
Darkon84 Posted 28 September 2012 Posted 28 September 2012 Thing is there's a bit of history to the black thing... And 21st Century Fox - great find Haha, yes there is, but why should calling a black person black, be racist. Youre not asking them to shuck and jive, or pick cotton, or get back in their shackles, or anything else referring to slavery. Should all Irish people be offended and kick up a fuss if jokes about potatoes are mentioned? Theres history to that too, where the majority of the country died etc?
Guest MattP Posted 28 September 2012 Posted 28 September 2012 That's not exactly how he put it.... It pretty much was in a 4-4-2 issue in the early ninties, I remember reading it before I flew away somewhere. http://forums.lfconl...d.php?p=1741895 - A guy on their seems to remember it as well on post 1069 who clearly read the same thing unless it's the biggest co-incidence of all time. Obviously nothing concrete will be in google from those days. Fair enough if his opinion has considerably changed now, but saying something in 2012 doesn't disprove what he said 15 years beforehand.

In fact, with todays pop culture, black people are now glamourised and 'the black male (generic), is the most copied man on the planet'. Not my words, words from.....*gasp* a black guy. I didnt know Ferdinand has been opressed by the white man and been a slave. I thought he was a rich professional footballer with one of the easiest lives you could imagine? I feel for him, tough life.

A white man using the term black **** against a black person is different - the other way round it carries no weight in context because white people have not been repeatedly oppressed due to the lack of pigment in their skin!

I feel like we have moved back to 1954 sometimes on here when talking politics (or 83 when discussing Maggie). The people involved in these sort of cases have suffered no oppression whatsoever. In this day and as an racial insult towards white man carries the same weight as it should towards any other person being abused due to the colour of their skin, we're in 2012 ffs.
Nick Posted 28 September 2012 Posted 28 September 2012 Yeah that' I feel like we have moved back to 1954 sometimes on here when talking politics (or 83 when discussing Maggie). In this day and as an racial insult towards white man carries the same weight as it should towards any other person being abused due to the colour of their skin, we're in 2012 ffs. Yeah so by your definition the use of the word 'white' or 'Honky' as a prefix to an insult toward a white man would gain the same reaction as a white man using the word nigger, paki, coon or black-**** toward a black man? Yeah, right.

Nick Posted 28 September 2012 Posted 28 September 2012 Depends who you speak to I suppose. If you live in this century it shouldn't make much difference. Wow - just wow.
Guest MattP Posted 28 September 2012 Posted 28 September 2012 Wow - just wow. You say it like it's some sort of radical opinion and we are still walking around with slaves for sale.
Corky Posted 28 September 2012 Posted 28 September 2012 What about if an asian dude calls a black person 'black ****'? I wasnt aware that racism was a one way street? That is "racist", because he used the skin colour within the insult.
Darkon84 Posted 28 September 2012 Posted 28 September 2012 That is "racist", because he used the skin colour within the insult. Yea I was just being picky and simplistic etc, as it was in reference to what Nick was saying. He was implying that its only racist coming from a white man because of the history of slavery and white men holding power over black.

Captain... Posted 28 September 2012 Posted 28 September 2012 that acooling is one bad egg Why is there still power in calling a black person black? I didnt know Ferdinand has been opressed by the white man and been a slave. I thought he was a rich professional footballer with one of the easiest lives you could imagine? I feel for him, tough life. The reason why is because some people think that they are superior because of the colour of the skin. And this is not just a minority of backwards folk, it is institutionalised in certain parts of our country. Should black cvnt be any greater insult than lanky cvnt or fat cvnt? No. Is it? Sadly yes.
