Trav Le Bleu Posted 11 July 2012 Posted 11 July 2012 The truth doesn't matter, it's racism. If you are accused then you are guilty. If he's acquitted, then people will tell you it proves the justice system is institutionally racist. Surely we all know this by now? I accuse you of racism. By your own definition you are guilty.

If he's acquitted, then people will tell you it proves the justice system is institutionally racist. Surely we all know this by now? I think it's more a case of people believing what they want to believe. Plenty of people hate John Terry already, so even if he's acquitted, they'll still say he's a racist and come out with some inane excuse as to why he wasn't found guilty. Likewise, if he's found guilty, then there's probably a tonne of Chelsea fans who'll staunchly defend their Captain Fantastic, and a bunch of right wing fanatics that will blame 'PC gone mad'.
Daggers Posted 11 July 2012 Posted 11 July 2012 A cvnt who came knocking at my door in Brum to sell me double glazing accused me of calling him a "black cvnt". He phoned the police and reported this act of racism. I never said he was a black cvnt, I just called him a cvnt after he threatened to assault me. By the time they arrived he'd run off up the street but that didn't stop me having to let my supper go cold while I explained the situation to the officers. I'm staunchly anti-racist but little wankers who play on their colour in order get at other people are total cvnts, black or otherwise.

The stupidest thing is that it's okay to call someone a c***, that's fine, but call them black... An insult is an insult, but why are insults referring to a person's parentage, intelligence or bodyweight acceptable, but you can't make reference to a person's race? It's largely oversensitivity. In my youth I had an occasion where an Asian friend of mine had really upset me badly and I called him "a stupid Paki", not because I'm racist (anyone who knows me will know I'm fiercely anti-racist), but because I knew it would be the most hurtful thing I could say to him and I really, really, really wanted him to be hurt at that moment. I didn't say it because I think Asian people are in any way different to English people, just simply as an insult and he let it be that, even though he knew me well enough to know that that wasn't how I think. I have to say that I did immediately regret it, but still, just saying words does not make you something. It's how you think and act and treat others that counts. My own opinion from how I've seen Terry (even though he is a total (several words I CAN USE without fear of prosecution)) around black players is that he isn't racist. The Ferdinands merely over-reacted.

Guest MattP Posted 11 July 2012 Posted 11 July 2012 I accuse you of racism. By your own definition you are guilty. If you told a room of people I was racist with none of them having met me it would stick like nothing else and the burden would be on me to prove otherwise. While he stood looking at me smugly, waiting for the police, I called my family outside. Then I phoned the police and reported him for threatening to sexually molest my children and rape my wife, to which they were all witnesses. Sex case card > Racist card Good call. Thinking about it paedophilia seems to be probably the only other crime along with any sort of racism where people will quite happily assume your guilt without any evidence and it's up to you to prove otherwise. Just seeing a church worker conjures up a thought in my mind of whether the guy touches kids.
ADK Posted 11 July 2012 Posted 11 July 2012 That goes with alot of things though. Still, 99.8% of people arnt going to degrade themselves by making false allegations. The problem here is the over-reaction about something that boils down to two men throwing insults at each other. The fair punishment would be something like 2 matches ban for foul and abusive language.

That is much worse. Except the last bit about Ferdinand he was happy to let it go after the match, the case was brought by someone seeing the footage on TV.
Captain... Posted 12 July 2012 Posted 12 July 2012 I can't see him being found guilty. I guess it depends on how they want to apply the law, he did say the words "black cvnt" at Ferdinand, even if you are trying to defend yourself there is no need to say "I didn't call you a black cvnt", when all he needed to say is, "I didn't say that".

I think it'd be a bit harsh to find someone guilty of racism on the basis that they simply said a racist slur out loud. If he wasn't directing it as an insult, then he hasn't done anything wrong. Context is key. It'd also set a bit of a dangerous precedent. If you can't use that language in any context then where do you draw the line at what's acceptable? Can you simply say it a bit differently; "he thinks I called him a paki, but I didn't"? What about a white person rapping along to a track that contains the word 'nigger'? What about this post? Is it racist because I've used those words without putting 'the n word'?

Oh I agree, it is not the words but the intent, but there are lots of ways to insult people without appearing to do so, and you have to ask yourself why terry said what he said. From what I gather Anton never said 'did you call me a black cvnt?' he asked him what he said.
Darkon84 Posted 13 July 2012 Posted 13 July 2012 This whole thing has been stupid from the start. None of them want to be there, and its hardly a race issue anyway. He called him black...he is black. I've called someone a fat cvnt before, because they were fat, and a lanky ****, because they were tall. Does that mean I too, should have to go to court for bringing up a physical trait which they cannot change? Its ridiculous. Where will the line get drawn. *For the record, Ive been called short arse before, and other height related things, so I can understand the suffering. Ive also been called names relating to the colour of my skin, like whitey, pale face, cracker, or the most haunting 'milk bottle' . I sometimes rock myself to sleep, sitting in a dark corner, my clothes drenched from my own tears blah blah blah.

Darkon84 Posted 13 July 2012 Posted 13 July 2012 Casper the friendly ghost is a Leicester fan! Racist! Im taking you to court now for making fun of a physical trait I cannot change. May I add, Im not actually an albino or anything, just average caucasian . I just put those in there for effect and should be taken a bit tongue in cheek. Though when I was at 6th form, I was one of very few white people there, so there was banter. I was affectionately milk bottle, whereas my Sikh mate was towelly etc etc. My point still stays the same though
