demon_dog Posted 28 October 2011 Posted 28 October 2011 I have sent the following Email to the club, hope someone does as requested. To whom it may concern, I would like to make a request regarding the upcoming Remembrance fixture against Leeds United on Sunday 6th November. Last year the Remembrance fixture was in my opinion marred by the lack of respect for the silence prior to the commencement of the game. This was I feel mainly due to the fact that no-one seemed to know exactly when the period of silence was due to begin. I therefore respectfully request the club to ask the match referee if it would be possible to indicate the commencement of the 2 minutes silence by raising his arm and blowing his whistle. This action be also announced over the tannoy in advance. I feel that any request of this nature would be well received by any match referee. I feel sure that if this were to be actioned that everyone in the ground would show their due respect. ....................................................................... Hope you all agree with me.
lcfcadam Posted 28 October 2011 Posted 28 October 2011 You're heart's in the right place but I fear you trust the intellect of vast swathes of football fans too greatly. Some of them could have an actual programme of events thrust into their hands, be forced at gunpoint to read it 3 times over, and still not respect what's going on.
SMX11 Posted 28 October 2011 Posted 28 October 2011 While I agree that last year was a joke, it was clearly explained what would happen for the silence before the match. I could not believe people got confused by the whole situation.

I could not believe people got confused by the whole situation. Well it wasn't clear at all, it was explained whilst people were making their way to their seats and having banter with the away fans. Not everyone buys a programme or searches the official site for info you know. I expect people to remember last season and do it properly this time.

Corky Posted 28 October 2011 Posted 28 October 2011 Good on you for trying, the majority did understand what was happening last season so hopefully those that didn't either won't be there or will know what is happening this time.
Simmo86 Posted 28 October 2011 Posted 28 October 2011 These fixtures always seem to fall when we've got a full away end. 100 Watford stuck in the corner..no problems. But with 3500 gobby Leeds next to L1 can't see it staying quite for 2 mins Sad really
Saxondale Posted 28 October 2011 Posted 28 October 2011 The new PA system is loud enough! Get some instructions blasted down that at AC/DC volume. No excuses.
acooling08 Posted 28 October 2011 Posted 28 October 2011 I think Birch needs to explain it as if he's talking to a bunch of 5 year olds. 'Ok Leicester City fans listen up please. After the Last Post, that's AFTER the trumpet, we shall all join together in observing a 2 minutes silence. Again, when the Last Post has finished, the referee will blow his whistle and the silence will begin. Please remain completely silent until the referee blows his whistle for a second time'.

Is that before, after or during the trumpet
acooling08 Posted 28 October 2011 Posted 28 October 2011 Is that before, after or during the trumpet You're probably right. Some morons will still get it wrong. New speech: 'Ok Footy fans, shut the **** up until I say so'
Guesty Posted 28 October 2011 Posted 28 October 2011 I don't know why they don't just have the minutes silence. Then without the ref blowing the whistle so as not to confuse anyone, play the last post. Then when thats finished the ref could blow the whistle.
Nick Posted 28 October 2011 Posted 28 October 2011 Every year I just can't get the image out of my head of the helicopter falling out of the sky on to the pitch whilst watching it land. Not sure why. I could bring the match ball with me, it'd be a lot less hassle and expense.
Webbo Posted 29 October 2011 Posted 29 October 2011 Perhaps they could put the word 'silence please' on the big screens for the duration of the 2 minutes
