davieG Posted 9 November 2011 Posted 9 November 2011 DavieG mentioned just such a run on Sunday that Howard failed to spot. This one, as you can see he's so anonymous even his team mates don't see him as Howard chooses to sky one over the cross bar rather than laying off a simple pass into his path.
Corky Posted 9 November 2011 Posted 9 November 2011 There must be a reason why he is so anonymous though, I mean, everyone notices! It's alright saying 'he makes decent runs' and yes he does, but that doesn't make up for the fact that most people on here notice he is anonymous throughout the game, and what does that tell you? I look at other midfielder's within the divison, such as Clayton, Lallana and McGugan and they are all able to make runs and score, but also help the team in the defensive third as well. It's not necessarily about being anonymous, it's more to do with his style of play. He's not a flashy player, someone who when they are struggling will go steaming into tackles to get the crowd onside or to cover up his faults. So he might appear anonymous yet others are having a similar impact on the game, just going about it in a different fashion.
Guest Col city fan Posted 9 November 2011 Posted 9 November 2011 So many go un-noticed. The amount of times you see him pull up after a run and have to run back to midfield is frustrating to watch. This.... King will look much better in a confident, well organised team. And his runs will be more productive I think As, I believe, will Beckford
beryllind Posted 9 November 2011 Posted 9 November 2011 Sadly I am not a King fan at all, Watch him and no one else for 5 minutes, you will see is true ability or more like lack of it, he just ghosts around and will not close anyone down, you can forget about tackles. On Saturday in my opinion he chickened out the block which would have stopped the Leeds goal. Why is out of the Welsh team ?. He is a fit nice lad but he is not tough enough. Sorry Kingy.
Number 6 Posted 9 November 2011 Posted 9 November 2011 Hasn't been at his best this season, but would argue that none of the midfield have. He has still chipped in with 3 goals and, if we can get him on form, could be a vital player for us.
Raj Posted 9 November 2011 Posted 9 November 2011 Kings far better when he is on the attack as opposed to being a holding midfielder
tomtom Posted 9 November 2011 Posted 9 November 2011 Kings far better when he is on the attack as opposed to being a holding midfielder That'll be because he isn't a holding midfielder
Raj Posted 9 November 2011 Posted 9 November 2011 That'll be because he isn't a holding midfielder So i was right in what i said!
bisto Posted 9 November 2011 Posted 9 November 2011 I f you understood more about football than just the man with the ball you might realise the work some players do off the ball which you need in a game of football. his movement is great and the reason he sometimes goes unnoticed is all the work he does off the ball why do you think he keeped popping up unnoticed by defenders and getting into positions to score so many from the middle last year. Hes having to work even harder this year cos teams are marking him so well. but he will get free sometimes and that also makes space for others this is in answer to the first post sorry got so mad seeing it didnt take time to read any replys
Guest Col city fan Posted 10 November 2011 Posted 10 November 2011 For me, Andy King is a very clever footballer who naturally positions himself correctly on the pitch. This is why he is able to time his runs, burst into the box and score as many goals as he does. He does this almost silently and not dramatically. He doesn't attempt to dictate play in the way that Richie Wellens does. For Andy Kings game to be successful involves a team playing at pace because his speed of thought is quicker than most. If playing in a team which is hamstrung by slow, deliberate build up play, the opposition will be quickly able to suss what King is wanting to do. On the downside I do believe that King is physically weak and runs out of stamina too quickly to enable him to be a top player. The games that King does not seem to flourish in are those where City are on the back foot for the majority of the time. Defensively, IMO he is not strong and does not possess the pace to run with opposing attacking midfielders and to break up play with a tough tackle. King is best in a well organised confident team that is able to take command of games via the use of correct tactics. This is why he did so well under Pearson and can do so again. I don't believe he is a particularly special player, but used correctly at this level has and can remain a real goal threat. His main asset IMO is his speed of thought

Thracian Posted 10 November 2011 Posted 10 November 2011 I'd just love to see King playing in an accomplished team of passers and movers. Despite the claptrap about his failings King is by far the fastest and most accurate passer we've got and fo years until Nugent's arrival the most reliable marksman we've got in terms of goals scored and shots on target. Add t that an ability to contribute both aerially and on the ground in defensive situations and to cover space instead of getting lured out of position through ball watching, King is a coaches dream because he is so reliable. Unfortunately and despite several double-figuires returns in terms of goals - again the first we've had from midfield for years - King plays in a team of journeymen which invariably has no pace and no width - two commodities which King himself can't do much to help out with. But lots of brilliant players had these failings but the important thing is for the management to provide these things, fit them into a suitable system and, with one or two other adjustments, mould them into a King where King can flourish and show the full range of his impressive skills. But you can plead like an American killer on death row for years and years at Leicester and never be heard. The very concept of genuinely attacking football at Leicester is looked upon like some modern version of a plague. We're simply afraid to embrace it. I said 18 months ago that Kingy should leave for his own good and nothing that's happened since has changed my mind. How he puts up with the shit around him at times I just don't know. Beckford reacted soon enough but he'd not won any credence and I've noticed Nugent getting frustrated too. The thing is our club needs of whole team full of talent not just four of five. If you doubt me just look at the movement. Times there's nothing to be seen and the last time we saw any pace in Leicester seems almost as long ago as when the York to Bournemouth express used to steam gloriously along the nearby Great Central. I've mentioned times that you can't win anything without pace, goals and movement and we don't have enough of any. Consequently Kingy is largely wasted.
beryllind Posted 11 November 2011 Posted 11 November 2011 The York to Bournemouth wouldn't be behind a King though !!!!
paddy Agyemang Posted 11 November 2011 Posted 11 November 2011 King bags goals so what I like king he is a player which most teams don't have
Father Ted Posted 11 November 2011 Posted 11 November 2011 King would be an able player for a team like Arsenal where he would be surrounded by like minded players of the pass and move philosophy unlike Wellens who is a limited player. Kings downfall is a lack of pace.

Kings downfall is a lack of pace. Really? It seems to me that his lack of physicality and versatility that hinders him. Plenty of players have proved you don't need exceptional pace.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 12 November 2011 Posted 12 November 2011 Really? It seems to me that his lack of physicality and versatility that hinders him. Plenty of players have proved you don't need exceptional pace. I'd argue pace for a central midfielder is irrelevant. OK, you dont want to be slow, but off the top of my head I cant think of one centre mid who is lightning quick, pace isnt needed. Dont think the previous poster would say XAvi, Iniesta, Gerrard, etc are quick.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 12 November 2011 Posted 12 November 2011 King is not in the Wales team (first 11) to play Norway today
daddylonglegs Posted 12 November 2011 Posted 12 November 2011 You cant be serious? Andy King was our highest goal scorer last season. Last season he was our best player, playing just behind the front two. This season he has been forced to play more defensively. However as soon as sven gets the sack, and Mike Stowell comes in, someone who has known Andy King for a long time, they play him in behind beckford and nuge. first goal, he made a late run, right place at the right time, second goal striker, to striker, heads it back to attacking midfielder, bang. Andy King has got quality, hes going to be a prem player within two seasons, at the most.
Corky Posted 12 November 2011 Posted 12 November 2011 Wales have pretty much their first choice midfield playing, King would do well to get in that.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 12 November 2011 Posted 12 November 2011 Wales have pretty much their first choice midfield playing, King would do well to get in that. I dont know if he is sub today? If he is i hope he gets on and plays well
Corky Posted 12 November 2011 Posted 12 November 2011 He came on for a minute of action I must say Wales play some really good football. Their second and third goals were impressive.
