IPSWICH TOWN contract rebel Caolan Lavery scored on trial for Championship rivals Leicester City last night.

The 19-year-old striker – who turned down a new six-month deal at Ipswich last month having gone on a good goalscoring run for the club’s Under-18 and reserve teams – netted a fine near post equaliser against non-league side Quorn.

And although he missed his spot-kick in the ensuing penalty shoot-out, Leicester still went on to retain the Westerby Cup Winners’ Cup.

The Canadian-born forward – who has represented Northern Ireland at youth team level – missed a large part of last season with a knee injury, but was handed a six-month deal to prove himself.

After his impressive the start to the campaign, manager Paul Jewell offered him an extension until the end of the season. Lavery turned down the offer though, with Jewell declaring himself ‘disappointed’ at the decision.

League Two club Bradford City have been linked with a move, while Rochdale had been interested in a loan deal had Lavery stayed at Town.

And...

Leicester felt they should have had a penalty when trialist Edwin Gyasi was brought down in the area and the Foxes looked to have won it when Sam Wilson shot, but a great block by Joe Shaw denied the striker.

He had a good game, good movement. And was very quick. Good leap on him for a smallish lad. Worked hard. Probably reminded me of a young hume.

who the hell is that in your profile picture

You could say the same about Jack Cork.

Against Quorn I thought he looked average, a poor man's Billy Kee his partner up front looked the more intelligent composed footballer.
