davieG Posted 25 November 2011 Posted 25 November 2011 Merc Nigel Pearson revealed he tried to strengthen his Leicester City squad before the loan window closed yesterday. Pearson said he targeted a couple of players who he felt could add something extra to his squad. But he was unable to pull off the deals and may now revisit those targets when the transfer window opens on January 1. The City boss also said there would be no movement out of the King Power Stadium, which means Matt Oakley, who is back having treatment for a groin injury, will not return to Exeter City when his loan expires next week. "We have been looking in certain areas," said Pearson. "I think it is very unlikely that anything will happen. At this stage, you often find that squads need padding out, but ours doesn't. I am not going to collect players. "We have been looking specifically at one or two targets, but they have not happened for us. "We might revisit them in January now. I think January is the time to do that. "Matt is still injured and he is a week or so off even getting back into training, so that is unlikely." There may have been a few City players looking for a loan move away to gain regular football, but Pearson said he sensed there was a hunger among his squad to fight for a place. "I am pleased that players want to fight for their place," he said. "That is important. In four weeks' time it might be different if players are still unable to get a place in the side, but I will be as open as I can with them. "As long as they remain positive in the way they go about their work, then I don't envisage there being a problem. "It is difficult to keep people happy. We have a lot of very good players here. "The challenge is always to win the next game, so I can't show much sentiment in trying to keep everyone happy because it is clear that is going to be a difficult job. "The important thing is if we all recognise that the team is doing well, we all have a better chance of being successful. That is really the philosophy we are trying to move the club forward with." Pearson said striker Martyn Waghorn, who he took on loan to Hull City before returning to Leicester, would remain in his plans when his loan expires in January, especially as Darius Vassell has been ruled out for the season with a knee injury. "He is still injured but the short answer is yes, he is in my thoughts," said Pearson. "But he will be unavailable until the new year. Even if he was fit we couldn't recall him. He is a player that the facts prove, I think, has a lot to offer.
Ric Flair Posted 25 November 2011 Posted 25 November 2011 I am intrigued to see what Waghorn can do under Pearson again. His career has stalled massively in the past 15 months but it's no secret that his confidence is bollocksed. Nugent, Beckford, Schlupp and Waghorn? Frightening forward line. Surely no better in this division for strength and depth?
Bryn Posted 25 November 2011 Posted 25 November 2011 Actually I'd say that was a front line with a hello of a lot to prove.

Corky Posted 25 November 2011 Posted 25 November 2011 As long as Emile comes home, that's all that matters.
Ric Flair Posted 25 November 2011 Posted 25 November 2011 All the above would play better off a big man! I disagree. Not every team needs a big man to be successful. Infact, i'd go as far as saying all of the above four would play better with service from wingers who can cross the ball. All four are very good in the air, even Waghorn who has scored a number of goals from crosses and set pieces.

What this team misses is good crossing from the byline for our strikers to run onto. The crossing this season has either been too poor, or from too deep.. Or both! I'd love to see a couple of tricky wingers who can beat a full back and whip in a cross to an in-running striker. I think Beckford particularly would benefit from this.
Ric Flair Posted 25 November 2011 Posted 25 November 2011 Or a well placed defence splitting pass that the can run onto. Yes Davie! Johnson, Wellens and King have all got that in their locker if they apply themselves properly. King will thrive again under Pearson from a deeper role, it's weird to have a midfielder who scores more goals and is involved in more of the play from a more defensive role. It's like having an assassin who is more ruthless in his kill with a spoon than a gun.

Charl91 Posted 25 November 2011 Posted 25 November 2011 Just ask anybody who's been to prison how dangerous a spoon can be! Probably not as dangerous as a gun though!
John Matrix Posted 25 November 2011 Posted 25 November 2011 Probably not as dangerous as a gun though! depends in what situation doesn't it.
ARM1968 Posted 25 November 2011 Posted 25 November 2011 That really is quite wrong!! : ) What we need are some speedy, tricky wingers to spoon feed our strikers.

millzi Posted 26 November 2011 Posted 26 November 2011 Be interested to see how Waghorn gets on when he comes back, I can see him being used as more of a winger than a striker though, although that's more of a Sven philosophy than an NP one.
ta-fc Posted 26 November 2011 Posted 26 November 2011 depends in what situation doesn't it. What about a spork? Its a combination, hybrid type thing combining a Spoon and a fork?

Nugent has scored a lot of goals at this level. 15 last season from out wide. Waghorn did alright in 09/10 as well for us?? Beckford will score at any level.
tylesta Posted 26 November 2011 Posted 26 November 2011 Just ask anybody who's been to prison how dangerous a spoon can be! Very dangerous, years ago someone got stabbed in the face with a spoon at glen parva a plastic one aswell!
flowwolf Posted 27 November 2011 Posted 27 November 2011 My wife has got a face like looking in the back of a spoon does that count ?
