davieG Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 Because he said we had no chance as he was a Celtic fan and they were the only club he would leave us for, turns out he was a Sunderland fan!? When he was with us he said his boyhood team was Sunderland the surprise was the Celtic admission, but then bearing in mind where he's from and that he's a Catholic perhaps it wasn't so surprising.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 Let me clarify, I was at every final, Wembley and Hillsborough. I loved every minute of it all. I travelled home and away. It was great. I just always thought that O'Neill was a 'knob' because he never showed any appreciation for the fans who adored him. He only ever referred to the '200' at Sheffield United. I wasn't one of them' Please understand my point, he hated the '200' after seven matches but will understand if Sunderland fans hate him after two matches if he loses them both. i understand the point you are making buddy, have no doubt about that. I was at the Sheffield United home game as i took a family friend in a wheel chair who had parkinsons (he has since sadly died) and i remember thinking it was a bit over the top to say the least the stick he got but yes i agree to a point that he never seemed to stop ramming it down our throats afterwards (for a while he probably had a point?). If he has said that about the fans hating him after 2 games at Sunderland (if they lose them) i think it will partly be in jest surely? Anyway like i said no disrespect to Sunderland but i only care about Leicester City as such, Martin will get what he deserves at Sunderland either way if you know what i mean?
ousefox Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 I'm sure, and i hope he takes Sunderland places. No doubt in my mind he will. and OP

absolutelegend Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 now famous 200 who voiced their dissatisfaction with him after seven poor performances during an away match at Sheffield United. It was at home. We were awful. I was one who booed - I was young and naive. Muzzy's debut if I remember. It was way more than 200.
Gold Coast Fox Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 I love O'neil but i always find myself wanting the clubs he manages to fail... I must be jealous

Head Honcho Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 Be nice if we could all just finish with this O'Neill love in..........................admire him for what he done here, but time to move on!

I remember him saying something along the lines of: my dad told me that if anyone was ever offered the celtic job they should walk all the way there to take it if necessary Obviously some gay religious thing. What he thinks he'll achieve at Sunderland I don't know. Best case scenario: a series of top ten finishes. I love him but i'm sure not many people would argue against the fact that he has ultimately wasted his potential at a bunch of relatively crap clubs, at best winning relatively crap competitions.

Yes he did say that but before then I'm sure he only mentioned Sunderland as his boyhood team. None of the big clubs offered him the chance, either because they didn't like his attitude in wanting to be left alone in charge, because he wasn't foreign enough or because they thought he wasn't good enough. Perhaps his wife being ill prevented him from taking certain jobs or going abroad.
dave the caveman Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 Perhaps his wife being ill prevented him from taking certain jobs or going abroad. That's true actually yes. It did come at a bad time.
acooling08 Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 That's true actually yes. It did come at a bad time. When is it a good time for your wife to fall seriously ill?

I somehow doubt it was a gay religious thing since he is a Catholic

Wherethefoxhat? Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 O'Neil has stated today that he has two games to get the fans behind him because 'this is a results business'. This is the same O'Neil who in his Irish girly way never forgot the now famous 200 who voiced their dissatisfaction with him after seven poor performances during an away match at Sheffield United. Arsehole! He never appreciated that after that match he became the most adored manager in English football since Bill Shankley of Liverpool. He persistently referred to the derision, never the adoration. I really hope Sunderland get relegated and he is sacked for the first time.
Bausor Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 Just after you've won the lottery? your sick mate Just after she`s taken a life insurance policy out

Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 I wanted MON to return, but am very happy to have Nigel. I must say though that I personally feel that MON let himself down by not ruling himself out of the city job. And was saddened that he so quickly jumped at Sunderland. I understand his reasons but I feel a little jilted. I think with his history with us he owed us an explanation that's all. Bit pathetic maybe, but he had lost something for me with this move.
Captain... Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 It was at home. We were awful. I was one who booed - I was young and naive. Muzzy's debut if I remember. It was way more than 200. I was going to write that, but probably call the op a bellend in the process. The 200 I think refers to the ones that stayed behind for a long time, I didn't, I just booed at the awful performance, as stated elsewhere it was mainly aimed at the board for letting McGhee go and replacing him with this nobody I've also never heard MON mention it, personally I think that reaction helped turn our season around, so I don't blame any of those that stayed behind or those that booed. I'm pretty sure MON got over it he had plenty of opportunities to leave and didn't. I love the man I hope he succeeds, as I always do. Don't expect everyone to feel the same, but if you don't like O'Neil this is probably not the riht board for you, try Liverpool, they hate him for some reason, call the Snidey Goblin your sick mate Just after she`s taken a life insurance policy out His sick mate what?
SeattleShane Posted 7 December 2011 Posted 7 December 2011 Sheffield utd was at home?? Why should the thread be deleted? Anyway I was there that day and how things stood then Martin should have got the sack. The crowd had every right to get on his back for the performance, it was terrible. Was anyone else posting on this thread at the game? What a muppet!! Delete thread....
