Yuki going home: Urawa Reds want him

If he wants to go then good luck to the bloke.

IMO he's been no worse than any of our other midfielders.

I genuinely don't think he's big or fast enough though to be a defensive midfielder which appears to be the position he's been played in...

Brings me back to needing that big defensive midfielder I think this team really needs

Claude Makelele was neither, but he was a brilliant defensive midfielder; tenacious and efficient.

It'll be a shame if he does go as I really wanted it to work for him here.

Imo our best DM we have who can also play right mid or right back. Deserves more of a look in.

I totally agree with this.

Nigel Pearson has assured Japan midfielder Yuki Abe he still has a role to play for Leicester City.

Abe has featured only once since Pearson returned to the club, when he went on as a substitute at right-back for the final 15 minutes of City's 3-0 victory against Crystal Palace.

That was Pearson's first game as successor to Sven-Goran Eriksson.

Pearson has admitted there is an imbalance in his squad which he will address in the transfer window, and he does possess a plethora of central midfielders.

But he said the 30-year-old Abe is still a valued member of his squad and praised his professionalism.

"We have been very impressed with how he has gone about the situation," said Pearson, who worked with Abe's countryman Junichi Inamoto at West Bromwich Albion.

"He hasn't had a great opportunity so far, but he is a valuable member of the squad and a very popular member.

"I am sure, in time, Yuki will get his chance because I have been very impressed with him so far.

"We have got a lot of midfield players, so it is always difficult for players who are not playing.

"But I will always try to be as up-front as I can with people and he has handled the disappointment particularly well.

"He will play his part at some stage, there is no doubt.

"They have competition. The important thing is whoever is in the side has to fight to stay in the side, and whoever gets their opportunity has to take it.

"They must work hard at the training ground andYuki has been first-class.

"I need him as much as any other player at the club. He is part of the squad, and a valuable member of the squad, and I am pleased to have him."

Pearson said Abe's game was suited to English football's high physical demands.

"I would say, although Inamoto is a talented player, I think Yuki's game is probably better suited to English football in terms of his ability to deal with the more physical aspect of it," added Pearson.

"They are what I would call very low-maintenance players in that they are very professional, as you would expect coming from their culture.

"They are respectful of their peers and hard working."

Hard to criticise someone who grafts like it's going out of fashion when we're starting someone in his place who stands in the centre circle moaning at his team-mates and giving the ball away rather than actually doing anything of note.

I like Abe, hope he sticks around for a while longer. I remember Forest at home under Sven where he was the best player on the pitch by a country mile, countless tackles, endless stamina and tidy passing.

I dont think it was Yuki in them Youtube videos that were posted, with them 30 yrd free kicks :|

Ah the age old argument of why Yuki isnt taking the free kicks when he's playing, i dont understand it myself either to be honest, Konchesky's usually taken them when Yukis been playing, and hasnt looked like scoring once. An interview a while back with Gallagher and Waghorn they said he's been choosing NOT to practice them. I think he actually preferes not having this tag of being 'the japanese David Beckham' hanging over his head.

good to see hes still in the plans, i think there are other good cms out there but we should keep who wants to stay and stick with it because theyre settled and no the club no gelling process. maybe if one or two cms do leave im guessing MJ, possibly fernandez and oakley then this 'inbalance' should be sorted. a mid field of danns, kings whellens and Yuki i think would be very strong

x2 from those 4 CM's plus x2 wingers should be ok, but those 4 mentioned as a complete midfield would be dire (and v narrow)

I thought the Thai's brought him in to raise our profile in Asia a bit more. Wouldnt be surprised if they wanted to keep him. I hope they do, he showed against Brighton that on his day he is quality. Never plays awful, just goes missing a bit to much.

I asked my contact in Japan what the story with Yuki, was there any truth in this at all. His answer was short, "Very likely." Now that doesn't mean that Pearson's public admiration and 'part of the plans' media story wasn't to keep him content, or maybe it was some smoke and mirrors, but I will ask if there's any further info and share it when I can. This guy is for reals by the way, and definitely knows his stuff.

Keeps it simple in DM. Breaks up play and plays simple passes. I've always liked him in that role. Would like to see him given a run in the team.

I'm hoping nothing will come of this given his last 3 performances, today he allowed Danns to be the creative player he was at Palace by just sitting and closing alot down. Like most of them he looked shattered by the end.
