Before they came, with strong management we were a playoff side... what does that prove? If you're going to pull the signings card, you need to list them all, right back to Bendnar, Kirkland & co, right through to Ball etc... Cherry picking signings to suit the argument doesn't suit either side because there is obviously some good & many more than there should be bad. & for a kitty of £20m in loan fees, wage deals, & signings fees you'd hope they'd be more of the excellent & less of the rubbish deals wouldn't you

Despite some positives under SGE, at times I couldn't quite believe how tactically inept he was for a manager of his stature in the game. This is regardless of the league he was managing in. People seem to use the Championship as an excuse for his shortcomings. I don't see it. He has a reputation, he has achieved much in the game and yet he couldn't hack it on a tactical level against the likes of Kenny Jackett's Millwall. Not an excuse it is just he heeded and never took notice of his own shortcomings in this division a stubborn man.

He also wrecked the confidence of several key members of the 09-10 side, including the top two scorers from that season and the player of the year. Other players, such as Tom Kennedy, were frozen out altogether, not making a single first team appearance during Sven's time with us. Would he have been better than Berner, Cunningham, Mee or Van Aanholt? He's certainly acquitted himself well at Championship level on loan at Peterborough (whom he helped to promotion last season), and was widely acclaimed for his performance during his comeback game at Palace. By his own admission, Sven didn't know enough about this league. Unfortunately the learning curve proved too steep for him. There were too many occasions where opposing managers simply out-thought him. Still, at least he helped in building a side capable of launching a challenge for the top six. Sadly for him, and us, that side was Reading.

Pearson did a great job first time around, and laid the foundations for what the club is today. But that's the type of manger Pearson is. A man manager, a motivator, a man that can take a squad and with a low budget transform it using a mixture of youth and experience. When he was here first time around and maybe even at Hull because they lost all there 'big names' there was no pressure. One of the main reasons we did so well in our first season back was because we had no pressure, weren't expected to win most games, at Hull he had the time to transform his squad slowly and develop it, but now he HAS to get us promoted, we're expected to win every game, there also a lot of big egos in the dressing room, I just don't know if he can handle it - I hope I'm wrong!! We needed to get out of Div1 pronto due to finances and unlike team's like Leeds he did it at the first attempt, he then not only secured us back in the championship after we had been fighting relegation for a couple of seasons before we hit Div1 but got us to the playoff's whilst Mandy was already planning on getting rid of him, Mandy being the guy who fired managers on a whim.
Captain... Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 Sven wasn't that bad, but he wasn't that good. With the time and money he had we didn't improve, the owners sacked him at the right time, giving NP 8 games to assess the squad and then the transfsre window to improve it, a tough call, but leaving it any later would have meant another knee jerk transfer window lots of loanees in a massive wage bill and gambling everything on promotion. All I hope is that Pearson is given time build his team, don't expect us to storm up the league this season, best case scenario this season is play off heart break and build again next season to win the league.

Selling Hobbs for hald of what we brought SSL in for is a disgarace as is 5m for Mills. Not signing any wingers showed how inept he is, least he brought in a few good players like Kasper and Nugent though.
