Sven - was he that bad?

And if we had kept Sven we'd probably still not be in the play-offs.

if if if - we'll never know so let's move on and hope the board give Nige at least a year (he has to get rid of all Sven's players) and more than 13 games when he gets his new team together, especially if we are 5 points off second place - bet they don't though and I'll bet (and I've already won this one) most on here won't give Nige that long either - too much playing manager on computers and not enough understanding of real football - instant gratification - what else can you expect from a 26 year old that only got the job because of his Dad?

Wrong as well - it does if you have to buy a whole new team because the old one is shit

Yes but Sven didn't by a whole new team until the summer, you cretin. You know what I'm saying but you would rather purposefully be awkward.

If he had bought some players in January other than Bamba he wouldn't have had to get them all in the summer, would he? And we'd have had a better chance of going up without poor additions like Bednar, Kirkland, Ricardo, Bruma and Van Aanholt.

Wrong

35pts from his last 81, I'd love to see what your definition for failure is if it isn't summed up in one word "Sven"

go back to the 3-0 home defeat to Millwall, a team who hadn't won away all season and were bottom, recall the abject dismal performance the players put in & recall how they were rolled over & beaten, recall the tales of dressing room unrest & how the whispering was that Sven had even lost his own players

The owners knew far more than they let on & kept it strictly professional

The owners acted as we were on the precipice of disaster and did so just before the 2nd international break of the autumn & if Hull hadn't been such sticks in the mud over it, NP would have 2 weeks to start coaching out the attitude that weak performances are OK.

2pts from the playoffs... may as well have been 20, the team had gone backwards with performances like those at Cardiff & Brum and home performances like the Millwall one, but even aside from those appalling performances, it had been rotten since half time at Pride Park last season, when we were found out & in those ~30 games there was never ever a hint that Sven knew what to do about it.

No no no, people are saying '2 points outside the play-ofs' Well being 2 points outside the play-offs isn't good enough, is it? When people are saying this they are making the assumption we would make these 2 points up. It is you lot making the assumptions so now I'm going to. We weren't getting better and I'm saying we wouldn't have been in the play-offs at this point. Even if we did make the 2 points up Sven was expeted to be top 2, not the play-offs.

I don't need to move on, I'm happy Sven's gone, it's the Sven sympathisers who need to let it go and stop making threads like this and getting on Pearson's back after 8 games because they love Sven. I will not let threads like this go because they are stupid. Maybe people shouldn't make threads like this.

I hope Pearson gets as much time as Sven (which was a year, not 13 games) and then we'll review if we've improved. I'm confident we will.

Prove it.

You keeping telling people to move on when it's you and a few others who keep bringing it up!

I'd use up all of my +1's if I could.

He says 'Move on' but constantly brings up his hero Sven. Hope he visits the forum come summer when we're in the Top 6. Actually I don't, because he'll probably put it down to Sven's magnificent signings.

I'm curious to know which bit you disagree with.

Well all of it really, we weren't slowly getting worse, we had beaten Derby and Watford during the last 4 games and had worse runs than that before so that is trash - especially to say slowly - we got bad after Watford very quickly, and who knows what could have happened after but that doesn't make it less wrong - also, I'm not a cretin - Sven bought his new team in the summer, the players he wanted except Bamba (who we all seem to be allowed to like) were obviously not available in Jan, as they won't be for Nigel this year, and so he cobbled together a loan team and had a go at the play offs - I think that was actually the biggest mistake he made because the Chairboy and the real cretins on here got over excited and instead of seeing last year as a triumph, because we stayed up and had some fun too, everyone saw it as a failure and so Sven was on the back foot - he clearly needed a new team as we didn't have a goalkeeper to speak of (I take it Kasper is OK too) and some strikers (Nugent OK?) and Tunchev had been out a long time and the defence looked weak, so some central defenders too - and when you make that many changes it takes time to gel a new team together, as it will with Nigel (so we must leave him alone for now) and so Sven's second mistake was not agreeing with the bozos running the club to allow him at last half a season before passing judgement - they over reacted and we slid back down the greasy pole - season over and I really hope Junior has learnt a lesson and gives Nigel some time - as I say, I doubt it, I'm not a cretin and I think they made a mistake - I'm happy to leave it - are you?

Sven wouldnt have got us promoted in a million years ,

The 3 bad home defeats to very poor opposition proved that ,

The manner of the Reading , Bristol & Millwall games showed what a gutless team we were

Firstly, for god's sake seperate your sentences with a paragraph now and again.

Last season a triumph? lol Let me make this abundantly clear: At no point in the season were we ever realistic relegation candidates. Any average manager could have kept us up. Hell, even Sousa would have probably kept us up. Sven did what was expected of him by getting us to midtable, but he made some big errors when it looked as if the play-offs were possible. But he was always going to be judged on this season. This season he was expected to finish in the top 2. When he left we were midtable still and playing dreadful football on the whole.

You aren't happy to leave it, you've already proved that.

The Derby game should have been the moment we turned the corner but we had so many false dawns. That's called inconsistency. We picked up a great result against them but then went back into our shell (highlighting Sven's poor motivational skills) and played 2 of our worst performances against Birmingham and Millwall. Even against Watord we were anything but impressive.

I can't work out at what point did you think Sven was doing really well?

Fact: We were a playoff squad, which Sousa had allowed to get out of shape & had mis-coached, we were never relegation candidates, a monkey taking over would have taken us from 4th bottom to mid-table, which is what Sven did.

When we won 5 in a row I dared to dream but it wasn't to be.

The same this summer I dared to dream again, that we had bought the league & that wasn't to be either.

the mistake was never in sacking Sven, but in appointing him in the first place.

Sven was never suited to this division, had we been in the prem I think Sven wouldn't have been bad, as he could have attracted quality players to the club.

You know I don't rate him, but I'd totally agree with that

I also think if he'd have come in at boardroom level he'd have raised the profile of the club, shaking hands with the king of Thailand, wining & dining potential signing's wives etc & etc leaving all the dirty business of Football League management to someone else, it also may have worked

Fair enough Pearson needs to bring his own players in, but what if we didn't have the funds we have? What would be his excuse then? 3 points from 15 is shocking!

Take Martin O'Neil for example, gone straight in at Sunderland and got them instantly playing, knew there defence was there weakness and has got them organised at the back. He hasn't once mentioned the transfer market, just stuck to the task ahead.

Pearson has his favourites in Wellens,Gallagher etc and there all performing badly at the minute yet none of them have been dropped - bad decisions from the manager? Yes.

haven't read the whole thread so may be repeating. Agree with the above, I expected the new manager (whoever it was going to be) to motivate the team and individual players as O'neil has, but there has been no sign of that at all, until today perhaps. There has been no improvement over Sven - we are falling down the league. Sven may have attracted better players in the window, but we'll never know. we will also never know whether we would be in a higher position under Sven. Fact is we've got Nigel and we've got to accept that, and as true supporters we should get behind him, I know I will, and I will not call for his head. But I have a nagging doubt as to whether he was the best choice.

Anyway, great result today - bring on the forest!

Nigel - Kick arse!!!

Weird perceptions from the person you were replying too...

Last season, Sven had international breaks to coach players & arrived early enough to be able to sign loans like Davies, Kirkland, Bednar and others as well as free agent Vassell, so had massive advantage over Pearson... Yet he got 4pts from 15 over the same time Pearson got 3pts with none of the advantages that Sven had

The stats are remarkably similar, only 1pt over 5 games, despite the overwhelming advantages Sven had by his arrival 6 games earlier

Blimey where are all those on this site who were hell bent on driving up Erickson's Marmite motorway ? ~Talk about changing your tunes. All the shit being spoken about " he did not get enough time " blah blah fvcking blah . You know as much about football as I do about winning friends and forming relationships.

With the benefit of hindsight, Sven should have done what Pearson appears to be trying to do now...

Sorting out who is his best side, both now and for the future, bringing through some good, younger players and looking for signings which are going to really compliment the existing set up.

In this way, I think and am hoping that Pearson has a plan with what to do with the squad.

And he also, as importantly, doesn't seem afraid to experiment if he feels he needs to.

It appears that Sven went for a hotch potch of named players, with little thought to assimilating them together and how to best play them...

That seemed to start today.. We'll see if it works

For a supposed "world-class" manager with a "world-renown" reputation, he fell well short.

Despite some positives under SGE, at times I couldn't quite believe how tactically inept he was for a manager of his stature in the game. This is regardless of the league he was managing in.

People seem to use the Championship as an excuse for his shortcomings.

I don't see it. He has a reputation, he has achieved much in the game and yet he couldn't hack it on a tactical level against the likes of Kenny Jackett's Millwall.
