Tielemans63 Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 There was a post about it on here at the time, it was some comment about Antony Cotton the gay corrie actor while he was in the jungle, I can't find it on search though, may have been deleted, it was quite bad, and probably worse than what the oxford player wrote and got sacked for. Awesome - let's sack him, saving 6 months worth of wages.
Houdini Logic Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 Awesome - let's sack him, saving 6 months worth of wages. Or if we can't get away with that then just roll a burger off a cliff...
Tielemans63 Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 Or if we can't get away with that then just roll a burger off a cliff... Even better!
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 Or if we can't get away with that then just roll a burger off a cliff... Michael Johnson may also fall for that trick.
Jordan Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 It's not exactly the same issue, but it's somewhat hypocritical of City fans to be in uproar over racist chanting by Forest fans while we tolerate anti-gay slurs used by ourselves and the players (or at least tend not to treat them as no big deal).

I am assuming that double negative is an accident, it is difficult to criticise him when what he actually said isn't known yet, if it is what I read before, I seem to remember saying something like I would be disgusted if one of my friends came out with something like that. The fact we don't know/remember exactly what it is it is hard to judge, but an ill advised attempt at humour twitter comment about a celeb is different to actually being on the receiving end of abuse as a number of our fans were. Also the fact it is already being dealt with means there is no point in making a drama out of it until we know the outcome.

It was sloppy typing, my mistake. But just because Ball's alleged comment--if it even were bad at all--may not have been a direct insult, it would have still been delivered in a public medium where any number of persons may have seen it and been offended. I know a few LGBT folks that use words like "fag" and let insults slide. But from what I gather, most others find it very upsetting to read and hear language that equates gay with bad. Banter is banter, but I can imagine a gay City fan feeling uncomfortable hearing certain songs aimed towards disliked players or Brighton fans, reading FT users calling things/people they dislike "gay," or coming across anti-gay slurs or jokes made by City players in poor taste. Do some people need to lighten up? Sure. But it's hardly uncommon for gays to be ridiculed their whole life just for being gay, so I wouldn't think someone who has would find this a laughing matter.
Guest Posted 13 January 2012 Posted 13 January 2012 Whatever he wrote, it's a private account used in his private time what on earth has it got to do with the FA? The world's gone mad that what you do in your free time can be picked on by employers and their associations. It has nothing to do with football and so cannot bring the game into disrepute purely because it was typed by a footballer.

It has nothing to do with football and so cannot bring the game into disrepute purely because it was typed by a footballer. It's not a private account though is it, it is a public account, which people only follow by virtue of the fact he is a footballer (debatable at the moment). Footballers, whether they like it or not, are public figures and as such represent their club and the FA. If you followed a bbc journalist, because he was a bbc journalist, and he made homophobic comments you would expect the BBC to do or say something, if you were following him because he was your mate, and all his followers were mates, and no one followed him because of his position at the BBC then you would have a point.
jonlcfc1990 Posted 13 January 2012 Posted 13 January 2012 I want the job of the person who sits on Twitter all day following footballers waiting for them to say something offensive. I know him it's the same person who hacks their voicemails
LcFc_Smiv Posted 13 January 2012 Posted 13 January 2012 If I remember correctly though it wasn't him who said it, he retweeted it from someone else. Not that it makes any difference the blokes an idiot for having it on his profile.
Saxondale Posted 13 January 2012 Posted 13 January 2012 Ruddy Twitter is becoming a minefield. If I was NP, or any team manager, I'd warn my players not to bother with it.
Captain... Posted 13 January 2012 Posted 13 January 2012 Ruddy Twitter is becoming a minefield. If I was NP, or any team manager, I'd warn my players not to bother with it. Twitter is not the problem the problem is footballers and other sports stars and people in the public eye, are increasingly being exposed as ignorant morons. That could be seen as a good thing, at least they can be called up on their views and is more interesting than the sanitised press conferences that used to be our only interraction with them. Can you imagine if twitter was around during the time of George Best, or Alex Higgins, now they would have been worth following, the closest we have is Joey ****ing Barton.
Guest MattP Posted 13 January 2012 Posted 13 January 2012 If he's retweeted it he shouldn't be charged. Collymore often retweets the racist abuse he gets do everyone can pile in on the guy who did it, whose to say Bally wasn't doing the same thing?
Lambert09 Posted 13 January 2012 Posted 13 January 2012 Yeah it was a retweet.....can't remember it being that bad, still stupid for doing it though.

Collymore often retweets the racist abuse he gets do everyone can pile in on the guy who did it, whose to say Bally wasn't doing the same thing? Understandable, but I guess you can say Collymore retweets abuse that was aimed at him, where as Ball has retweeted abuse aiming at someone else and almost seems as if he is condoning it, if that makes sense.

What I'm saying is it's an easy defence, Ball should just say he was retweeting it for that reason. If it towards Anthony Cotton I can understand it, the worst mincer of the lot.
Babylon Posted 13 January 2012 Posted 13 January 2012 "bally you're my favourite lcfc player any chance of a RT for the lads" Begging people for RT's is seriously pathetic. If anyone reading this have ever done that, you need to take a long look in the mirror.
Babylon Posted 13 January 2012 Posted 13 January 2012 Ruddy Twitter is becoming a minefield. Becoming? What about poor old Paul Chambers who got arrested, lost his job and got charged after posting this when the snow closed Robin Hood Airport. "Robin Hood airport is closed. You've got a week and a bit to get your shit together, otherwise I'm blowing the airport sky high!!" http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/jan/18/robin-hood-airport-twitter-arrest
Guest MattP Posted 13 January 2012 Posted 13 January 2012 Begging people for RT's is seriously pathetic. If anyone reading this have ever done that, you need to take a long look in the mirror. I actually tweeted virtually the exact same sentance last week. Even worse are the City fans now all sending Billy Sharp messages begging him to join us.
Babylon Posted 13 January 2012 Posted 13 January 2012 I actually tweeted virtually the exact same sentance last week. I can perhaps understand someone getting a kick out of someone retweeeting them, if they have actually said something worth a retweet. But just begging? What can you get out of it, other than the fact you know they saw the letters RT and clicked a button.

That's pretty much the standard rule for most normal users, write someone that's worth retweeting. At least Bally thought this guy had
Guest Col city fan Posted 13 January 2012 Posted 13 January 2012 Why the fook did Sven get this chump in anyway? He's been nowhere near the first team Same as fat Johnno... Strange signings the pair of em
Babylon Posted 13 January 2012 Posted 13 January 2012 Why the fook did Sven get this chump in anyway? He's been nowhere near the first team Same as fat Johnno... Strange signings the pair of em Two average players for every posistion.
Mack Posted 13 January 2012 Posted 13 January 2012 Begging people for RT's is seriously pathetic. If anyone reading this have ever done that, you need to take a long look in the mirror. The worst ones are 'My child has an illness' or 'I'm doing a sponsored dumpathon for charity' etc etc. In fact I cant stand Twitter, it is a tool for those who have an overwhelming sense of self importance to inflate their ego even further.
