MrSpaM Posted 13 January 2012 Posted 13 January 2012 The oxford player who got sacked said this "I wouldn't fancy the bed next to Gareth Thomas #padlockmyarse" So if it's on par with that or worse i'd expect him to be heading out of our football club pretty sharpish I personally think the worlds gone insane if thats a sackable offence

Now those that are excusing it as a retweet, that is just like forwarding a homophobic e-mail, try that at work and see how far you get with the excuse you didn't write it you were just forwading it. What is more worrying is that Nugent is supposed to have written something similar, I really hope it is not true, partly because I don't want to see him punished, but mainly because I don't want to find out that he is homophobic.

So you set up a private account and people follow you who you dont want to and its the same as directly sending a message to all your colleagues at work? You talk a lot of sense but that's total nonsense. It wasn't even his own typing it was a retweet. Nothing like dorectly forwarding an e-mail. Even he has made a small quip about gays it hardly means a rabid homophobe either.

Captain... Posted 13 January 2012 Posted 13 January 2012 wtf? You talk a lot of sense but that's total nonsense. It wasn't even his own typing it was a retweet. Nothing like dorectly forwarding an e-mail. Even he has made a small quip about gays it hardly means a rabid homophobe either. It is not a private account, there is no such thing as a private twitter account, as far as I know, I can happily go along and view what he has written. When he is on Twiiter as the Footballer Michael Ball then you are representing footballers and the club you play for. If there was no mention of him being a footballer, then whilst not private I could still go and read it, I wouldn't know who it was from. Retweeting is exactly like forwarding an e-mail, and by retweeting you are giving it your approval. If you tell me a homophobic joke then I tell someone else, then I am still homophobic even though it is your joke. Likewise you forward an offensive e-mail, even though it is not your material, you are still giving it your approval and agreeing with the comments. So your saying that if i posted something like that on facebook or twitter, and someone from my work saw it and took offence, they'd have every right to sack me on the spot for it? Pull the other one If you had an open facebook profile and your job was mentioned in your profile and people who knew you through your job followed you on twitter or were your friends on facebook, then I would expect your boss to have a word, I am not saying it is an automatic sacking offence, but when you are representing your club, and footballers in public do represent the club, then your actions have consequences. A quick search on google: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/facebook/8984221/Police-officers-sacked-over-offensive-Facebook-comments.html http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/07/26/fired-over-facebook-posts_n_659170.html#s115707&title=Swiss_Woman_Caught http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/07/15/fired-over-twitter-tweets_n_645884.html#s112801&title=Cisco_Fatty_Loses Your twitter account is public, and all of the people you deal with in your professional life can check it and see what you tweet, and rewteet, if you write shit or spread shit that may be interpretted as offensive you leave yourself open to disciplinary action, it is common and it is a risk. I would expect Ball to be disciplined and probably allowed to leave as there is no point him being at Leicester.
Guest MattP Posted 13 January 2012 Posted 13 January 2012 You can have a private twitter account, you have to set it up as so. Peopel like Collymore retweet to show people's ignorance, should they be charged as well?

Peopel like Collymore retweet to show people's ignorance, should they be charged as well? If it is possible to have a private Twitter account then Michael Ball doesn't because I can go on there and read his comments, so therefore it is not a private account. Yes, Collymore should be charged as a racist for re-tweeting comments that abuse him Try that one when you forward an offensive e-mail, I was just forwarding this e-mail to highlight the ignorance of others, and it was quite clear, from what I read before it was deleted, that was not Ball's intention.
Alexikokopops Posted 13 January 2012 Posted 13 January 2012 You can have a private twitter account, you have to set it up as so. Peopel like Collymore retweet to show people's ignorance, should they be charged as well? By the FA?
hbkkids Posted 20 January 2012 Posted 20 January 2012 What does RT mean? is it reply tweet or something like that?? retweet
Happy Fox Posted 20 January 2012 Author Posted 20 January 2012 bally03 Michael Ball Too put record straight left Lcfc with mutual consent today!
SMX11 Posted 20 January 2012 Posted 20 January 2012 I am glad that Pearson is getting rid of the deadwood. Why on earth was he even at the club??
kingfox Posted 20 January 2012 Posted 20 January 2012 When Sven signed him, he said Michael Ball could become our best signing of the summer, if he improved his fitness. That was the most hilarious quote I have ever seen, from one of our managers. It was truly shocking, good to see the back of Ball he was pretty poor in all honesty.
VampLCFC Posted 21 January 2012 Posted 21 January 2012 I remember reading the tweet by Michael Ball, it was a pop at Anthony Cotton from Coronation Street, but I can't for the life of me remember what it said. It was just a silly/daft remark rather than being malicious. Someone was actually pretty quick to start a thread on here about it, saying something like.... "Do we need people like this at our club" but the thread was soon deleted. How on earth have the FA even picked up on this, I forgot we even still had him until he was released today! It's not like he's in the public eye or under constant media attention. Very strange, I'm pretty sure this has been reported to the FA by someone, there's no way they've stumbled across this.
Leicester_Loyal Posted 23 January 2012 Posted 23 January 2012 The FA have fined former England defender Michael Ball £6,000 for sending homophobic tweets about Coronation Street star Antony Cotton. Ball insulted Cotton during his appearance on I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here last November, tweeting: “That f****** queer. Get back to your sewing machine in Corrie, you moaning b******.” The FA was alerted to the tweet – which was later deleted – and charged the 32-year-old with bringing the game into disrepute. The fine is the highest the authority has ever handed out for homophobia. Ball, who has played for Everton, Rangers, Manchester City and PSV Eindhoven, had his contract with Championship side Leicester cancelled on Monday. It is understood the decision was made on footballing grounds and was not related to the offensive tweet. A club spokesman said: “We would like to wish him well for the future.” The FA has warned players to behave on social media.
Captain... Posted 23 January 2012 Posted 23 January 2012 That is pretty bad, not a joke, or a bit of "bantah" just calling him a ****ing queer. Glad we are shot of him, useless player and unpleasant human being, someone please have a word with Nugent to watch his behaviour on Twitter, or make it a private account for Leicester fans only.
Ultra Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 Nugent's been effing and blinding on Twitter more than is prudent for him. But he's not crossed the line into homophobia or bigotry, unlike those elements at Southampton last night overheard chanting "If you're on the way to Brighton, watch your a**e". We've been quick to condemn others (and rightly so) in recent weeks for unacceptable behaviour. Let's make sure our own house is put back in order very soon.

Maybe the path to Brighton is prone to being icy and you could fall? Sounds considerate to me...
messerschmitt Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 Michael Ball has been fined £6,000 for making homophobic comments and yet the governing body of world football FIFA award the 2022 world cup to Qatar,a country where homosexuality is illegal and punishable by lashes and jail, surely you can't get more homophobic than that!
